Character's real name: Gabe Codename/Alias: None
Gender: Male Age: 19 Nationality/Ethnicity: Caucasian, or at least he was before he turned blue. Birthplace: Tampa, Florida. Personality: Gabe is an all around laid back, goofy, light-hearted creature. He isn't really one for involving himself in heated arguments, nor is he really one to take a side in those arguments. He'd rather passively observe and throw out helpful little tidbits that might aid anyone on either end. He knows perfectly well to get serious when a predicament calls for it, but for the most part he just rolls with the punches. To him, there just isn't much reason in wasting time over an argument. He likes having fun, and would rather spend his time doing things that cause enjoyment rather than friction. He doesn't like to yell much, and is more one to silently seethe if something does manage to get under his skin and aggravate him.
As for his goofiness, it usually stems from his light takes on situations and from him blurting out anything that comes in mind, leaving him with a bit of a case of foot-in-mouth at times. He's also prone to being a bit clumsy. While in the water he's graceful as anything, out on land, he's a bit less sure-footed and has been known to trip over his own feet from time to time. That klutziness only gets worse if he's become flustered, which happens often enough, especially whenever there's a girl in the vicinity. He's fairly clueless to the mysterious workings of the opposite sex and unfortunately it shows rather easily, especially with the traitorous ease of his blushes. Notes: Sushi. It's a no go. Try offering it to him sometime, the reactions are always entertaining.
Allegiance: Neutral.
Everyday clothing: Because he often needs to make use of his webbing he rarely, if ever, wears a shirt or anything on his feet. For the most part he just wears an old, worn pair of jeans. Uniform: N/A. Thus far, at least. Pajamas: A pair of sleep pants or boxers will do just fine.
Hair color and style: None. Gabe has no hair. Instead, adorning the top of his head is a large fin that runs from his forehead down to the back of his neck. It seems to be a bit heavy as it often bends and folds over when he is out of the water. Eye color: Pure black with white pupils. Height: 6'0" Build: Lean and possessing well toned swimmers muscles.
Scars: None. Tattoos: None. Piercings: None.
Description of abilities: Well first off is his appearance. Gabe is a fish boy. His skin is a lovely shade of blue that is also mixed with a few hues of green when hit in certain angles and intensities of light. It provides a wonderful camouflage under the waves, though unfortunately it makes him stick out sorely when on land. His cheeks tend to turn a shade of reddish purple when he blushes. His skin has a nice sheen to it, but is in no way slimy.
As well as the fin on top of his head, he also possesses a pair of fins where a human set of ears should be and he is quite capable of flexing them, able to make them stand up straight or lay down flat, much like most mammals. They tend to help convey his mood. There is also a thin but strong membrane webbing between all of his fingers and toes, as well as connecting from under his upper arms to about half way down the sides of his body. The webbing is a few shades lighter than the rest of his body and contain a few less of the greenish hues. On either side of his neck he sports three slits, indicating where his gills are located, adding to the fishy appearance. He does also have a set of lungs. Both are fully functional and help him to breathe in different environments.
As for his eyes, they are large and round, and are a deep black with a white pupil, exactly the opposite of a human's. The black surrounding the pupil helps to significantly cut down on glare that bounds off various surfaces. The pupils dilate just like anyone else's and function just like everyone else's. They can dilate rather widely, allowing him to see fairly well in the dark and in murky, clouded waters.
Due to his fishy nature, Gabe can easily withstand freezing temperatures, in and out of the water. This is mostly because he's got skin thicker than the normal human's. This also helps against injuries, making him more resilient than some others.
Because he's got a pair of lungs as well as a set of gills, both fully functional, Gabe is able to breath in and out of the water with ease, making it possible for him to remain underwater or on land indefinitely is he chose to do so.
Lastly he possesses sonar, allowing him to navigate with even more ease in murky waters or in the dark on land. He can also pick up vibrations around him, though this is not a very strong aspect.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): Well, Gabe certainly knows how to stand out in a crowd. With his exotic appearance, he sticks out like a sore thumb, even in the denser crowds on the street. It's quite a problem with those anti-mutant enthusiast running around here and there. It's a good thing he's got a thick hide. Though that hide also has its own downfall; Dehydration. Gabe has to return to water at intervals or his skin will dry out and become extremely uncomfortable, prone to cracking and flaking, and more easily taking any damage dealt. He can go for about a week on land without moistening his skin before the levels of dryness begin to badly effect his health. Also, polluted water can have some nasty side effects on him.
As for his lungs and gills, while both work perfectly well in their own element, he must be careful to use them strictly in that element. If he attempted to use his gills out of the water, he'd choke and eventually pass out from insufficient levels of oxygen getting to his body.
And to try and use his lungs underwater would prove just as disastrous. How embarrassing it would be for a fish boy to drown. In the event that his lungs were used and then he promptly switched to his gills, any water that was taken in would remain in his lungs and therefore create breathing complications once he returned to land. All the more humiliating for a fish boy to drown on land.
While the sonar is useful for navigation, it seems to be a bit fuzzier and even fainter on land as opposed to in the water, much like when picking up vibrations. As such those readings used from either are usually pretty inaccurate on land, which may attribute to his clumsiness, especially while trying to use them, particularly when in darker surroundings.
Fighting style (if any): Gabe really isn't much of a fighter. He tends to talk himself into circles trying to wriggle out of most fights. But if it comes to blows, he usually takes up the defensive and executing quick, calculated hits where he sees fit.
History: Gabe was a good kid. He did as his parents said, he studied hard in school, he played nice with the other children. In return he was fairly well liked by most of the people he came across, rarely ever making any enemies if he could help it. His parents cared for him well and made sure he wanted for nothing. They were convinced he'd go to Harvard, or Yale, or some other prestigious school when the time came, and though he much preferred to laze about and watch the clouds pass overhead, he made sure he studied as directed so as not to disappoint his parents. This continued up until about Sophomore year in High School. Though he easily absorbed the material in the books he needed to learn, it was just as quickly forgotten when the need for that information had passed. He was a daydreamer, after all, and quite the social butterfly as well. He'd rather stare out the windows and watch the breeze making the trees sway, or engage himself in hushed conversation in the back of a classroom. Needless to say it did nothing spectacular for his grade point average. His parents were not thrilled in the least, both still fantasizing about a son that would move on to a well known university and do something useful with his life.
That was until the bruises started showing up. At least, they all thought they were bruises. First small, then larger patches of blue began to blossom over Gabe's skin in blotches, no rhyme or reason to the areas they settled on. His parents thought he'd picked up a bully. Or two. His teachers thought it was some kind of domestic dispute. Gabe didn't know what to think of them. He knew they weren't bruises. None of them were sore to the touch, each feeling almost reinforced, thicker than his normals skin, and smooth to the touch. And the coloration alone was enough to make him suspicious. First a darker skin tone, they gradually lightened and gained pigment until they were a lovely shade of blue. A shade of blue that was not normally associated with bruising. It was more like the color of those crystal blue waters that were always shown on TV in advertisements for vacation resorts. At least, that's what he compared them to. Though it may just have been his imagination running amok.
After a few weeks with no improvement in the markings, quite the opposite really, was when he also began to lose his hair. It was hardly noticeable at first, a few more strands clinging to the shower drain or to the bristles in his brush. However, it didn't take long before he figured out something was wrong. Immediately panic swept over him and soon passed on to his parents. Was it some kind of cancer that was doing this? Immediately he was admitted to the hospital and underwent testing.
Not too hard to figure out that it wasn't any form of cancer he had, now is it? He was released to go home after another few rounds of testing to make sure he was healthy enough to be able to leave. Soon after Gabe shaved his head, as well as his eyebrows, which he'd also noticed were slowly thinning into nonexistence. It'd all be gone soon, anyways. Why not help the process along?
Before long his eyes had begin to bleed black, almost as if his pupil was leaking all of its dark coloring to the rest of his eye, leaving a colorless white orb behind. They also appeared to be getting bigger, rounder, bulging in their sockets as they grew. A ridge was forming along the top of his head, his ears were getting longer and thinner, his nose got smaller and flattened out, slits carved themselves into both sides of his neck and the natural bit of webbing between his fingers and toes was steadily crawling down toward his fingertips, a similar film emerging under his arms and making its way down the sides of his torso. He was also constantly gulping down bottle after bottle of water, his throat near constantly feeling parched, the feeling soon spreading to the rest of his body, which he remedied by taking agonizingly long showers or baths. All the while the blue patches had just kept multiplying and growing in size until he was colored from head to toe. He knew what he was. His parents knew what he was. But no one seemed willing to say the word, almost as if it was some kind of death sentence to speak it.
Mutant.
It took maybe two and a half to three months before his body had completely converted into the very fish-like exterior he now possesses, and a few years longer before he put any serious research and consideration into what to do with himself. His parents had noticeably distanced themselves from him with the time, though the never alienated him completely. The last thing he ever asked them to do was to buy him a plane ticket to New York. There were a few options for him in the Big Apple, a few publicized mutant friendly places he could go. Even a mutant school, where he could continue the studies his parents no longer seemed so enthusiastic about. They obliged to pay for the ticket with little resistance, thoughtfully forgetting to jot down any last name on any papers, or give it to anyone verbally. 'Oh, you'll know it's him, don't worry' was what they offered in exchange. They could keep their last name for all he cared. They gave him a ticket to a life to live as he chose, he could let them have their verbal claim to a bloodline. And thus he set off to find some place to fit himself into society. And New York was his place to start.
