The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Kami watcher her loose her daggers in a flurry of blade. Despite the speed of the movement it was neither wild nor uncontrolled. Each one was on target, except for a single low blade which was fractionally out. After retrieving her weapons she queried about his energy blasts.
Holding out his right hand palm up he summoned a larger orb, about six inches in diameter, for her to inspect. “It is my internal energy focused,” he explained, “I have always had immense energy, able to train for days on end without rest. Through discipline and focus I can summon my energy and cast it at targets. The amount of damage for the blasts varies with size.”
To prove his point he moved his hand so that his palm and the orb were pointing at their target. Firing it the orb slammed into the target’s head, snapping it backwards at an unnatural angle. Where that a human, they would have been killed as their neck broke from the force of the impact.
He began to explain, using a larger, about 18 centimetres in diameter, globe to illustrate. To be able to focus your internal energy, now that was kinda cool. And so was having immense energy levels would allow this power to be utilised to devastating effects, which he prove on a small scale before her. The dummy was not going to see another training session - impressive. And what he said before made sense, size is proportionate to power, but surly if you increases the concentration…hmmmm. Intrigued, she enquired, : “Can you increase the concentration of power in a globe? And the energy you project can you make it transform into other energy types?”.
Deciding that she wanted to use her powers; it was always more fun, she sorted through memories trying to remember various training methods that would involve both their powers. An idea struck, it was somewhat similar to tag except orbs were the players. “ I have another ‘game’, if you up for it? All you have to do is hit this red orb with your globe of energy.” As she spoke the later part, her mind was busy as her awareness flooded the room, absorbing the light energy only into herself. It was pitch black, all the constant supply of visible light was pounding through her, before she called upon some of it and created a small tennis ball size red orb. Red since it required the least energy, and therefore she would be able to focus more on its movement than sustaining it. The light source was now directly feeding the orb that hung motionless for now, a few metres before them. She waited, tense, to see if he would participate in this new training exercise. One part of her mind was focused solely upon the feed of energy, ready to move it, and therefore the orb, if he was game.

“I have attempted to concentrate the energy,” Kami explained, “but so far have had limited success. As for other forms of energy, they all seemed to be force, as opposed to light or heat.”
Then the room went dark. A red orb appeared, his target. This should prove to be an interesting game. His energy blasts moved at about twice the speed of a throwing dagger, but his target could move at the speed of light. Rather than answer he summoned a small ball quickly and fired it at the orb.
In answer to her question he summoned a small energy, apparently that meant yes. Some people may be of the opinion that games are childish things, they are entirely correct. Yet as they allow our competitive natures to take over, our abilities can be honed, our reactions sharpened, and our control can become more absolute. Which is why with slight excitement of a challenge, Nox welcomed the task ahead of her. His globe moved quickly, but nothing could travel as fast as her orb. This is why his globe simply flew through the air; her globe had zipped to the right by about 2m. So I have the advantage. It’ll just mean he’ll have to out smart me. Something, which she didn’t count on happening. The globe hung, her reactions on call, her reflexes sharp, as she waited for the first sign of what he would try next.

Unsurprisingly Kami had missed. Taking a moment to analyse the situation he placed both hands behind his back and began to focus. In the palm of each hand he gathered twenty small balls of energy. Each carried the equivalent force of a flick of a finger, so he wasn’t worried about hitting Nox.
Casting out with both hands he saturated that area where the orb was, firing all forty blasts at once. Should this fail he would work on upping the scale, covering more area. Failing that he had another, somewhat more devious, plan in mind.
He quickly realised he was going to get nowhere by just chasing her orb, so he adjusted his tactics - smart. It was clever, by scattering 40 small globes he greatly increased his chance of it, if however, her orb was there when they arrived. There was a fraction of a second, when Nox saw and registered his glowing globes before he released them, but that was enough. Her concentration was so solely upon her orb that as soon as her brain received the stimuli, almost instantaneously her orb then moved. Zipping straight down, to just above the floor, it then continued forward to go straight past his ankles, and then behind them. She turned her head slightly, it wasn’t that she needed to see her orb, but she did, however, need to see what he was doing. Since it was speed which was keeping her ahead, and she knew it.

The speed of the orb was incredible. After tat dodge Kami knew that he had no hope of hitting it, even with the massed fire blasts. He had one option left. Before coming to America he had been working on summoning energy without the use of his hands. Without a point of focus it had been difficult at first, but he could now summon without using his hands.
But for what he had in mind he would need intense concentration. Sitting down on the floor cross legged he closed his eyes and found his centre. Entering a semi-medative state he began to summon small orbs of energy around him. Each was the size of the ones used in his scatter shot. The orbs were appearing roughly two every second, and he continued to summon more and more. As the minutes slipped by more orbs appeared until he was eventually completely obscured from view by his energy. Then they exploded out from him.
His next move puzzled Nox for a moment; sitting on the floor didn’t exactly seem like a productive move. As the small globes, appeared at an astonishingly fats rate, she began to understand. He seemed to be putting his last tactic on a much larger scale, having understood that only through numbers would he win over speed. Unlike, the former attempts, now his hands lay calmly in his lap, as his mind entered a realm of focus, she knew the expression well, sole concentration. He was almost obscured by a wall of globes, they occupied all the space, without allowing any gaps in which her orb could move into. Hmmmm. Mirroring her mind, the orb was zipping back and forth, as her thoughts tried to find a way to defeat the oncoming trap. Just in the finally seconds, as the last gaps were being filled, she came to a decision and the orb zipped behind her, to hover, just behind the base of her spine, centimetres away from her skin.
She was facing Kami, so she had figured that the only safety for the orb was just behind her, she would act as a shield. She wasn’t entirely sure whether hiding the orb was a form of cheating, but on the other hand no rules had been established to begin with. She presumed if he believed the move to be so he would voice his opinion, and then it would have counted as his win. Then they came. All the globes exploded outwards, like an expanding globe of light they came, hitting everything in their path, including her. Every inch of her was hit, not that they carried enough energy to be painful for which she was grateful, but that wasn’t to say it was a pleasant experience. Her eye lids had closed just in time, and were the most painful, but after the impacts, she found herself to be fine. After a slight pause she moved the orb to hover upwards, just above her head. Would he consider it cheating? Or would he try something else?

Kami opened his eyes to realise that the orb was no where in sight. It took him a brief moment to realise why. She had used her own body as a shield, protecting the orb from being hit by any of his blasts. A very clever move, one that he would struggle to counter unless he thought of something.
He had an idea, but this was beyond anything he had ever tried before. With his eyes open this time he once more began to focus. This time he began to summon fist sized balls. However, instead of surrounding himself with them as before they began to form a shape in front of him.
Upon completion he had a silhouette of Nox made of his energy before him. Now came the hard part. The silhouette began to move forward towards Nox. His intent was to pin her to the wall with it, thereby denying his target its hiding space. However, the concentration required to maintain the silhouette alone was taxing, and whether or not he could maintain it while summoning another blast attack remained to be seen.
He opened his eyes, and quickly took in the situation before trying something else. She had to hand it to him, because his tactics one by one were proving fruitless, yet he continued, he had determination – it was a useful trait. He created larger globes this time, which seemed to join together to form an image. An image exactly the same size as her, a silhouette of light, of her. What’s he up to? And then it started moving. Her mind pieced together what was happening: This wasn’t about her orb, this was about her; if she was moved out of the way then there would be nowhere to hide the orb – clever. Knowing the glowing figure was his energy, and apparently on impact seemed to push things back, she decided she would rather not get hit, and so took a few steps back to buy her some time.
With limited time, she didn’t evaluate various options, as simply acted, trusting her instincts; they hadn’t let her down yet. As she put one hand up in front of her, spreading its fingers, her awareness went out once more. She tightened her hold on the energy going from the light to her orb, so that only the minimal amount was used. She then combined that any visible light in room she could feel, on top of that she added some of his heat. He might feel it, but it would be harmless. Then with this energy she called upon a shimmering wall of light by focusing the combined mixture of heat and light, is shone just before his image. Not only was she now shield from his view, and therefore when she stepped to the side, like she did now, his image, which could if he choose go through her wall, would be unable to know where she was, and simply have to guess. But in addition, his image would be hard to distinguish from the surrounding light, and hopefully, thereby make it harder for him to control it. More as an after thought, the small sectioned off area of her mind, that was controlling her orb, sent it zipping on to her side of the wall, since otherwise if he attacked it she wouldn’t know. Its red light passed straight through her wall; anything would, it was simply light. She also ‘recycled’ the light her wall gave off, so that the energy the light gave off has reused in keeping the wall whole, therefore, either side of the wall was seeped in darkness. She waited, wondering what he would try next.

She stepped back and disappeared form view as a wall of light was created. Now blind he realised that his current course of action wasn’t going to work, and so released his hold on the silhouette, letting it dissipate, and got to his feet.
Up to now he had been endeavouring to hit the orb without harming Nox, however that had not been specified as one of the rules. While he had not intention of causing the woman any severe injuries, by making her concern for herself she might loosen her focus on the target, allowing him a shot.
In each hand he conjured an orb that was small enough not to break bones, but large enough to hurt and leave a nasty bruise. With no target it would be a case of firing randomly, so he began blasting through the wall of light. He kept throwing a continual stream of blasts, and would keep it up until he saw either a chance to hit the orb or that he had injured her worse than intended.
The sheet of the light that shimmered before Nox, was suddenly brutally interrupted as one of his energy globes burst through, a metre or so to her left. The wall instantly repaired itself, but an instant later another globed shoot through. It was then that Nox assumed he had probably given up on his moving image, and had chosen instead a more direct attack. A direct attack which in her opinion was not a good thing. This was proved as the next globe smashed into her upper arm. The shock and not the pain caused her control to slip, which caused the wall to expand as its boundaries where lifted. Luckily, for her, she regained control before the light had spread enough to allow him to see through. But she quickly realised she couldn’t keep this up. It wasn’t that the impact had hurt that much, there would be a bruise but it was nothing serious. It was more that, with her mind concentrating on several thing, interruptions had effects. So it seemed as if she was in the need for a new plan herself….
She started moving, for the simple reason that that way less of the continuous stream of globes would hit her that way, but with them being shot randomly there wasn’t much she could. Fortunately for her, her mind quickly came up with a plan, which she immediately put into action. Firstly, the wall of light moved. Incredibly quickly, as fast as light even, it moved so that it now encircled him, within an circle of 2m diameter. A circle of light that would move if he did. This meant that the space she had in which to avoid his blasts had greatly increased, decreasing her chance of being hit. Secondly, she decided a direct attack to herself could only be countered by a direct attack against him, since their was no way she could stop these globes. So she started directing his heat, using it to strengthen his light prison in fact. His heat was pulled away, which would cause his core temperature to drop since at this rate he wouldn’t be able to produce enough heat to counter it. And though the numbing of cold took longer than the problems caused by overheating, the effects would be more useful, since if she had to maintain this then his body would shut down to preserve energy, effectively knocking him unconscious. She didn’t know if it would come to that though; firstly he might do the smart thing and yield, and secondly, and far more likely, he would come up with something else. Her slight worry was, that even though she was drawing his heat, her mind was now concentrating on even more things. If he, therefore, hit her again her control might crumble, but being hit wasn’t what she intended, and hopefully the numbing effect of the cold would soon take affect.

Kami could sense the drop in temperature and was impressed by the woman’s resourcefulness. Where he a normal man this cold would render him incapable of continuing this match, but as he was rapidly coming to discover he was far from a normal man. He had, for many years now, been subconsciously using his abilities to protect himself from the cold.
So he put the cold from his mind and kept blasting, increasing his rate of fire. Nox had blinded him, but he had been unable to see his target for a while. He had no doubt that once she realized that he was resistant to the cold that she would adapt. Throughout this contest she had been staying one step ahead of him. It was clear that more training was required to find out the true limits of his abilities.
It wasn't affecting him. Through experience she knew how much heat she had to take away from a person to affect them, and this was beyond that. Lacking the time to investigate his precise limitations, she quickly decided a different tact was required, since through numerous tactic variations she should not only keep him wary, but also eventually come across one which did the trick. The light wall vanished, and so did all the visible light in the room, except that of the orb. She should have done this to begin with, since, because there was no visible light, he has still effectively blind, but she gained rather than lost energy. The orb was once more behind her back, and it reused the light it gave off, so that none of its energy was released to the room.
Then, using the energy that had been forming the light wall, she began to try and overheat him. Since cold was something the body could tolerate but heat¡¦. it didn¡¯t matter how much energy he was used to, if his brain¡¯s temperature raised by 2¢ªC he was in trouble. Which was why Nox concentrated the heat just at his head, hopefully he would find sense quickly, before any harm was done. All the while, she had been insuring to move around, trying to decrease the chance of one of his globes hitting her. She was, however, still hit several times - her leg, shoulder, stomach- it wasn¡¯t be becoming a pleasant experience. And though the impacts hadn¡¯t yet broken her control over her orb, who was to say that if one hit her head for example this wouldn¡¯t happen.

The cold soon disappeared, as did all the light. Kami, feeling that perhaps Nox was faltering, stepped up his firing rate yet again, creating and blasting energy as fast as he could. He hoped that he’d soon hit his target and end the game.
Then he felt it. He could feel himself heating up. But not his entire self, just his head. Against this attack he had no defence. It felt like he had dunked his head in water that was rapidly reaching boiling point. He kept firing, holding on for as long as he dared, but it was soon almost overwhelming. Ceasing fire and dropping to his knees he called out, “I yield.”
