The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kitra's eyes narrowed slightly in fogged thought. "Hunter, if you use your psychic powers while using this powers, you may collapse again." She frowned, "What if Dr. Ingram isn't there?" She sighed, "Also, you have quite a few secrets." She smirked as she tilted her head slightly upwards so she could lock eyes with Hunter more easily.
"Things will never get boring as long as you're my employer will it." It was a statement and not a question. "Alright Hunter, let's do it. I don't know where it came from though. It seems to be a defensive/yet offensive power." She gripped her bo even tighter as a slight spasm of pain ran through her yet again.
Hunter just smiled at Kitra before initiating the psychic link. Kitra's mind was becoming very familiar to him. He searched and quickly found the "new" bit. The area was changed, showing she'd activated a dorment power. The question was, how did she change it back.
He cast about to see what the area was linked to. What he found was fear, and lots of it. Siffting back through her memories he found out that, on a subconcious level, the decapitation stroke that he had stopped short had awoken a pirmal fear of death. Never before had Kitra been in a situation where it was made so apparent that she could be killed in an instant.
However, that had now past, yet the power was still active. Looking closer he began to realise the problem. Kitra was still afraid, only she was now afriad for him. Unfortunatly, this power only responded to two things, fear to activate it and then a focus for a target. The fact that Kitra was scared for Hunter was irrelevant. The power had it's requierments, fear and a target.
To try and stop it Hunter began to focus on Kitra's fear for him, pushing it aside and away from the power. But in doing so he took his focus off the ice shields, and a something got through. Hunter was forced to sever the psychic link as a piece of paper punched right through his chest, puncturing a lung. Gritting his teeth Hunter redoubled his defence as the wound rapidly clotted. That really wasn't going to help Kitra worry any less about him.
"Kitra," Hunter said finally, "I know how to stop it. But to do so I'd have to drop my guard, and I can't so that. This is something you're going to have to do on your own. The power works with two things. Fear to activate it and something to aim at. Right now you're afriad for me. Unfortunatly that is causing the paper to attack me. So I'm giving you an order. Stop worrying about me. I will be fine. None of these wounds are serious to me. Even now the lung that the last piece of paper punctured is healing. In a couple of hours I wont have a mark on me. So, stop worrying about me, got it?"
Kitra blinked, 'It had pierced his lung too!? Geez, what a way too make me less worried.' She sighed and closed her eyes, 'Hunter will be just fine. He can heal, there isn't any reason for me to worry about him.'[\i] Her eyes opened slowly as the rustling of the paper started dieing down. She gave a small smile to Hunter before closing her eyes yet again. ' Would you please return to my sketchbook as well. It makes things a tad bit easier for you and for me.' The paper gathered itself up, what wasn't wrecked that is. It put itself back in the sketchpad.
She felt any connection with the paper die. She swallowed, "I think it's over for the moment Hunter." Her knees were rather weak and jelly like. That had been really difficult.
When the paper slowly stopped it's attacks Hunter released the ice shields. With Shogun's psychic sight he could still sense any attack from the paper before it came, and so adequetly defend himself.
Moving to Kitra's side he kneeled down next to her and offered her a smile. "I think we'll end our sparring session there today," he said as he helped her to her feet, "How about we go somewhere more comfertable and talk about how I can control ice, amoung other things."
Kitra didn't feel so out of it now. Thank goodness, she smiled as Hunter helped her up. "Yes, let's do that." She grinned, "We have a lot to talk about Hunter." She walked to the center of the room where her beat up sketchpad lay. She bent down to pick it up and sighed as she straightened it and looked inside at the tattered paper. A small whisper escaped her, "This is too weird."
Hunter couldn't help but smile as Kitra mentioned how weird it was. In his life time he'd seen weirder. He lead them into what looked like a Victorian study, with a pair of comfey armchairs. Motioning for Kitra to sit in one he took the other.
"Considering what's just happened I'm sure you have questions. Now is the time to ask them. There is only one condition. Whatever is discussed in here does not go beyond these walls."
This room was nice, really nice. She sat in the armchair Hunter indicated and looked over at him. "There are a lot of questions I have. The matter is figuring out which one first." She was silent for a few minutes, she pulled her legs underneath herself. "Okay Hunter, I'm not conivinced about your blood. Plus, you having a healing ability. Wouldn't that make it so you have to replenish your blood more often?" Her eyes narrowed slightly, "And how do you normally replinish it? You've been alive for a long time and I'm sure that your methods have changed dramatically over the years. Or have they?"
She sighed, "No matter the answers to any of my questions. I will still be an employee. Even if your answers frighten me." She smirked, "I'm asking so I can't just walk away now can I?" She looked down at her tattered sketchbook in her hands. "You've helped me a great deal. Backing out on you would be ungrateful and rude. Plus, I want to help with the resistance. Too many good mutants were captured."
She looked up finally, "Also, how did you manupulate the ice, it seemed like you were moving faster as well." Kitra fiddled with her thumbs for a bit in thought. 'Well, he gave permission to ask. So I'm asking, a lot.' "Hunter, this conversation won't be remembered outside this room. There is no record of us being here." She grinned slightly, hoping that he would catch what she meant.
"There are no camera's or recording devices in this room," Hunter said, and it was true. However, there was a DNA lock that was coded to Hunter, so not just anyone could walk in. "First of all I need to properly explain my powers. I am sure you have heard of vampires. I am the origin of the vampire myth."'t aged since my early twenties.
He paused, to let what he had just said sink in. "I am over four centuries old, yet haven't aged since my early twenties. To sustain myself I must intake blood, human or mutant, once every three days. Originally I would use my fangs," he extended his fangs to show what he meant, "and bite the neck." Retracting his fangs he continued, "Now I use the more civilised method of injecting myself with human blood."
"The ice minipulation comes from my need of blood. When I drink mutant blood I gain their abilities, all be it weaker and only for a short period of time. The ice minipulation was a borrowed ability, and the percieved speed increase came from Shogun. I was utilising his psychic sight to predict the movements of the paper and avoid them." Now he waited for her reaction. Having revealed what he had that was it. Kitra was in as deep as it got with Hunter, and the only way out now was death.
Kitra just sat there, stunned. She had asked for answers, and boy oh boy had she got them. She had seen his fangs, cool though. A vampire? She hadn't thought those actually existed. But a mutant is a mutant. And Hunter was her boss, for life. Then it dawned on her, thats how he had been able to help her with controling her powers. She gave Hunter a small smile. "That explains how you're able to help all of us with our powers then."
Her head had fallen slightly as she sleeped deeper into thought. So old, geez no wonder he fights so well with swords and everything else. She muttered, "Geez is there anything you can't do then?" Kitra was half joking, half not. She had a sicking realization and looked up at Hunter as she spoke quietly. "To have lived so long, you most have lost many people. Many that you cared about as well." Her voice went even quiter, "How awful."
Kitra fell silent yet again. She felt wide awake now, even though her body yelled at her for sleep. This information was staggering. "Sorry for being quiet Hunter, this is a bit much too process." She shook her head slightly and grimaced, her mouth was dry. "Say Hunter, is there any chance you have anything to drink in here? My throat is slightly parched after that training session and talking." She looked down slightly embarassed.
Hunter was pleased to see that her reaction was not one of fear, but of acceptance. That was good for her, as had she feaked out he may have been forced to kill her. As it was, she took it in and dealt with it. The mention of people lost caused him briefly to think of Katherine before he supressed that memory.
In responce to her question he went over to the desk, grabbing a pair of glasses and pouring water from a crystal jug into each. Returning he handed one to Kitra before retaking his seat. "My ability to use others power gives me a unique insight into how their powers work. I have used it to help train both you and Tris. Currently Tris is not ready for me to reveal this to her yet."
Kitra took the glass gratefully and took a sip. "Ah." She grinned, "Ya know, there were a lot of other questions I had. But, now I can't seem to remember them." She laughed and went quiet for a bit as her thoughts returned to one of their previous training sessions. She looked up, "So, when we were cutting the ties to the drawing copies, the reason you needed the blood." SHe trailed off for a moment thinking of how to word it. "It was because you were using to much energy and it was drying your blood supply up. Am I right?"
"Correct," said Hunter with a smile, "When I exert myself, especially with my psychic or borrowed abilities, it depletes the human blood in my system more rapidly. So if I push myself hard I need more blood, and the severing of the final psychic bonds pushed me harder than ever before."
"The little stunt with the ice probably cost me three hours, meaning I'll need to feed three hours earlier than normal. Still, better that than let you slice me to ribbons." With a smile he made an ice cube above his drink which plopped in before he took a sip.
Kitra chuckled, she was completly calm, considering all that had happened in the last two hours. "The only question is, why did it activate? Might it be from you cutting my neck?" She tilted her head slightly as she traced the scar with her fingers. "It was impressive by the way. I've never seen you move so fast." Kitra grinned wickidly, "I got what I asked for didn't I." She made that a statement, 'cause it was true. "You'll be leaving soon won't you?"
"Never before in your life have you been at a point where death was so close you could taste it. When I made that swing I stopped just short of killing you. That triggered a primal fear, which the dormant power responded to." It was probably for the best that the power had activated because in training rather than in the field.
"Yes, soon I have to go an work on a specific angle against the up coming law. But I'll be back," he said with a smile, "After all, there's still much to do. This law's just a minor inconveniance, one that will be dealt with soon enough."
Kitra's mouth made a small o. That made sense, now the question was how to trigger it normally? She smiled, "I'm sure you will persuade whomever quite easily. If not, well, there's other ways to deal with those things." Her smile went wicked, "And I think we'll be fine with those raids on the camps."
She sat back in her chair sipping her water. So much stuff to think on at the moment. She would deal with that later though. "Hunter, is there any way I can get faster trainers? I know that mine are good. But, I would like someone that is almost as fast as you." She twiddled her thumbs a bit, "I know that may be difficult but the faster my oppenent, the faster I have to respond." She looked up, slightly embarresed, "Does that make any sense?"
