The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

This running was nothing after the fight from the ring. It was a warm up. The god had spent centuries training his body to match his will, the reason why he was the strongest Olympian. It was also the reason he was the one that was sent to do all the other gods dirty work. That however, was long ago. It also didn’t hurt he healed from the power of his masters.
Gladly he scooped Elizabeth in his arms and smiled. His chiseled form holding her close.
”Even if they could catch us there is little they can do to harm us!” he said slowing his pace more under her advice. It wasn’t for him, but for her and the dogs. They too had an exceptionally long day. Zorro was by their side and Hercules place a hand on the dog’s furry head and gave him another pat. ”Good boy.” before continuing his conversation with Elizabeth, ”As I said, no harm shall come to you or the dogs as long as I Hercules am around!” he might have flexed a little while still holding her.
”Though I have to say, I have not felt such a...” he paused for a moment finding the right words for it, ”Bloodlust in centuries. It was.... odd.” he said truthfully continuing on through the alley way. A scared cat watched the parade of dogs from on top of a dumpster all the while hissing.
In the distance a neon light with a image of a dog could be seen, it must have been where they were heading. ”Were you effected at all by it?” he asked curiously.

As they slowed, much of the aggression and adrenaline-related activities Liz had been encouraging amongst the dogs started fading. Now they weren’t a voracious pack of hyperfocused and panicked dogs. They were more like dogs out for a power walk but who had to be home very soon to get a treat.
With Hercules’s powerful arms supporting her, Elizabeth felt the seductive call of safety. A part of her resisted. “I would genuinely like to believe that,” she said, resting her head against him. A brief, wan smile touched her lips. It sounded like a dream come true. Hercules, her armorless knight in shining muscles coming to rescue her from a den of evil. But she knew reality. Muscles couldn’t stop everything. She wasn’t the naive damsel in distress she used to be.
Nobody could always protect her.
Sadness laced her dying smile. “You’ve been fortunate then,” she remarked. “As have the rest of us.” She left the rest unsaid. The terror she’d felt seeing him with blazing red eyes, prepared to brutally slaughter a defeated opponent. With his strength and power, who there could’ve stopped him? It was only luck and the grace of God that he'd listened to her. She knew very well she had been placing her life in his hands.
“I wouldn’t know,” she said with a shrug. “What’s one more emotion, one more compulsion that isn’t my own?” she asked. “One impulse of anger is but an island in the sea of anger and pain I was already swimming in, but those are waters I learned how to master long ago.” Even if she had felt something, what difference would it have made?
It had been a long day for her, she wasn’t an immortal she tired. Hercules on the other hand only got stronger when time went on. The siphoning of energy from his masters helped aid the process but even his masters had limits. William was asleep. Serena... felt aggravated. A conversation for another time.
>>> “What’s one more emotion, one more compulsion that isn’t my own?”
Hercules didn’t say anything, his back tensed under Elizabeth as if flexing would comfort her. He turned his head slightly so he could look back to her with one eye then trudged forward. They were still on a mission. Get the man’s best friend to safety.
>>> “One impulse of anger is but an island in the sea of anger and pain I was already swimming in, but those are waters I learned how to master long ago.”
”It seems you’ve too have been burdened under the curse of Atlas.” Hercules then would have done anything he could have to escape the burden of holding the weight of the world on his shoulders. He only did it because he had to. Elizabeth did it voluntarily. She was truly an inspiration and his admiration of her grew.
”You are truly a remarkable woman Elizabeth, and have a way with words. I feel blessed that I was summoned to this era.” he stepped in front of a car so the dogs could pass. He gave his word they’d be protected and he intended to keep his promise. The car jerked to a stop abruptly before running into Herc’s outstretched hand. ”What a time to be alive!”

Elizabeth felt the muscles tense underneath her, but she merely patted his chest with a hand. Her words had probably alarmed him. They would probably alarm her too, later. She was too tired to feel anything by them. Those struggles were old acquaintances of hers - she’d lived with them and been shaped by them too long to really imagine a world without them.
“So you’ve said before,” Liz said fondly. She’d blush later at being compared to Atlas, as she had the last time. As Hercules told the story, in addition to holding up the world, Atlas also heard and felt what everyone in the world did. She had a reference point for the sheer inundation of minds and how overwhelming that could be.
They continued to be an unusual sight, even by New Yorker standards. Liz thought she saw several people taking videos of the dog pack and Hercules disrupting traffic patterns, but she could pay them much attention. She was starting to get a headache from the sheer concentration. “Thank you,”she said softly, her eyes shutting so she could give the dogs more focus and encouragement. It was just as problematic if the dogs would choose to leave the pack - she was confident several of them had no love for humans.
“I think we’re here,” she said not much later as they approached a police precinct. “Let’s get this over with.”
”It never hurts to remind you.” Hercules said before roaring to life, ”Yes! It has indeed been a long day and possibly a long life for these furred friends! Ha! Truly a good deed we are doing! Hopefully they will have a much better life than the one they have had so far!” he flexed again this time his arms as he clapped a few times the way you would draw attention to yourself surrounded by an army of dogs. Clearly oblivious of any damage it would do to Elizabeth’s hold over them.
Approaching the steps a few of the officers were sitting outside smoking cigarettes or catching up with the earlier shifts. Hercules shirtless and carrying Elizabeth on his back smiled warmly at all of them as the pack surrounded the entrance of the precinct. One of the officers dropped his cigarette.
”Good evening officers! We are here to report a crime!” he boomed loudly as he kicked open the doors and entered the building. ”Who is willing to help us!” he roared. Hoping to take some of the burden off Elizabeth who was still on his back. Only when she requested would he lower her to the ground.

One could hardly ask for a more dramatic entrance than the one Elizabeth and Hercules created. Following on the heels of the massive, shirtless man with the booming voice and take-charge display, over three dozen dogs spilled into the precinct.
In the single moment that Hercules had stolen everyone’s attention, all the dogs promptly pulled the rug out from under him. It was chaos for several seconds, although to many it seemed longer. To Liz, it was an eternity.
She sucked in her breath with a hiss as she became inundated with so much new sensory input and a radically different environment. She also had to switch mental gears from keeping the dogs excited and wanting to follow the pack to anesthetizing them and keeping them still and docile.
The dogs around Hercules’s feet went still and silent first, the barks and whines fading in an expanding sphere until the canine invasion had frozen in place.
“I think I need to sit down,” she said, shifting from being cargo to a person standing on her own. She immediately wobbled and almost fell.
It had only been ten seconds.
“Hello Sir, Ma’am,” a uniformed officer said, stepping forward with a confident stride. She was tall for a woman, her hair was pulled back in a no-nonsense bun, and motes of twinkling blue light flittered around her eyes. She took a pointed look at the dogs, Elizabeth, the hands that Liz was clasping to her aching head, and then to the glowing man in the middle of it all.
“I can help you over here,” she said, gesturing to a desk with a couple of chairs in front of it. “If you’ll come this way.”
The woman was tall and serious. Everything about her seemed... reliable! ”Sit we shall!” Hercules boomed in response as he strode after the tall woman. The dogs followed suit, at least the ones that were closest. Hercules did his best not to step on any of his four-legged friends.
Elizabeth went down softly, Hercules did not. He stood just in case he needed to be at the ready. He was a protector after all, a body guard and it was hard to do the job if he was sitting all the time. ”If it’s all the same, I’d like to stand.” Hercules’s eyes watched the door then the dogs around the precinct making sure that they were all indeed safe. Just because they arrived to the police station didn’t mean everything was fine. Elizabeth was still exerting herself.
There was little time between the point where the uniformed officer sat down and Hercules started to blab about the situation they had just encountered. ”These dogs have all been liberated from a fighting ring for dogs. It was truly despicable.” he folded his arms and continued, ”Man’s best friend forced to fight for sport. Awful.” one of the dogs was near him so Hercules bent down to pet the canine.
”Yes, it is.” his voice got higher pitched, if people weren’t watching him someone would have thought they were talking to the officer that way. ”Such a loyal creature forced to fight alone then forced back into a cage. It is awful! Yes it is! But you’re safe now! All of your friends! Yes they are!”
Hercules cleared his throat and adopted his normal robust baritone voice, ”There are also some injured there. They picked a fight and lost, so it would be an ideal time to send in officers to collect the offenders. If you should like I shall accompany them once I know Elizabeth is safe!”

Elizabeth squeezed her eyes shut just moments after she sat down. She didn’t need the visual stimuli, not on top of everything that kept leaking through to her due to her intense grasp on the pack of dogs around. She tried getting the dogs to come over with her, but she wasn’t very successful. She settled for just keeping them pacified.
Which was something Hercules seemed dead-set on doing the opposite.
“Hercules, Herc, please, please stop that,” she said in a soft rush as she blindly patted his arm. She knew he was crouched - she caught a dozen images of it from various minds - but the high pitched yet still booming voice was starting to stir up a lot of feelings in the dogs. “It’s hard enough keeping them under control as it is.” She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, rallying herself to quell the new excitability.
The officer arched an eyebrow from behind her desk. “Ah, yes, we wouldn’t want a horde of excited…fight dogs, you said?” she said at a higher volume than normal. She glanced over the mentioned dogs, who were scattered around the precinct. A few people who had tried to start petting them immediately raised their hands and backed away from the dogs.
“That’s correct,” Elizabeth said.
“Jerry, please contact animal control at once,” the officer said in a level tone to a passing officer. She was clearly going for an un-alarming tone.
“Okay then,” she said, shuffling some papers and grabbing a form. “I’m officer Rodriguez. And you sir, thank you for the offer, but I believe we can handle things on our own,” she said to Hercules. “Would you mind turning off the glowsticks please? An active energy buildup display makes us cops nervous.”
“Now, tell me your names and start from the beginning.”
The contact on his arm did what it was supposed to. Followed by her tone and the look she gave him it was enough to send the message. Hercules cleared his throat with a cough and added, ”Apologies, Elizabeth.” standing upright he took up a post behind her as she and the officer exchanged information.
”And to you officer.” he added again turning down his ‘glow’ to practically nothing. He still kept his body at the ready in case those they had escaped from decided to attack. They were about to release the hounds as it were. Hercules chuckled to himself knowing that he should tell Elizabeth the joke later.
It hardly seemed the time to replay his life events to the officer but then again it might be to judge his character so he could be a reliable witness. His voice and tone was soft remembering what it was doing to the dogs around him by extension Elizabeth.
”It is a long story... but very well. I am Hercules, son of Zues. I was born a very long time ago in small village. Not knowing my father growing up I always sought him out, leading to a life of adventure. Only then did I discover I was destined for godhood.” the officer stopped writing and stared at Hercules as he started to recount his earlier exploits.

“Thank you,” Elziabeth said absently as her boyfriend promptly lowered his voice. She felt him moving into a bodyguard position behind her and a small part of her that wasn't focused on the increasing strain of suppressing the dogs allowed a flicker of a smile of contentment to flash across her face.
But then the hands that were massaging her temples slid over to cover her face as Hercules, well, complied with the officer’s command.
Rodriguez didn’t miss the gesture. She stared at Hercules with the eyes of someone who had seen it all, heard it all, and couldn’t care less about your tangents. “That’s nice,” she said, an eyebrow arched in clear disbelief. “But I meant about this incident. Tell me about this crime.”
Liz slid in immediately. “We were playing with our dogs in the park…” she said as she launched into a retelling of the day’s events. She didn’t shy away from any of the events, and there was certainly plenty of room for Hercules to interject and take over, but she also skimmed over magic. Shadow became a power-enhanced dog, she didn't mention anything about Hercules’s origins, merely implying he was a strength-based mutant, and that kind of thing.
The woman was detailed. One of the many things he adored about the woman sitting in front of him. Despite the physical and mental exhaustion of the days events, she didn’t miss anything important. Except the magic. Beaming with pride he listened as Elizabeth retold the events. True, it lacked the bravado and suspense a true story teller would impart but Hercules did have centuries to perfect the craft.
“We didn’t have a location but we heard about it.” the officer said jotting the rest of the report. “Think you got us all the proof we need.” Rodrigez put her pen down and reached for the phone and punched in an extension. “Sir, about that dog ring in yesterdays briefing. I got a location-” ”Allow me to assist!” Hercules roared making sure he was heard on the other end.
A few of the dogs started to bark and the son of Zeus recalled the strain everything was putting on Elizabeth. ”Apologies.” he placed a hand on her shoulder then looked back to the officer. Rodriguez looked to Herc and then Elizabeth and smiled, “We’ll call you when we do.”

Elizabeth gasped as Hercules enthusiastically volunteered again. Dogs broke through her boundary of calmness. Her control was fraying. There was no focus for finesse or subtle manipulations, she was during her best to psionically sedate every dog as best she could.
She did reach across her chest in order to place her own hand on Hercules’s, squeezing slightly in silent acceptance of the apology. Between her horde of beasts and Hercules’s shirtless brawn and bravado, a small part of Elziabeth’s mind that wasn’t focused on maintaining control over everything briefly wondered if they were the most distracting thing these cops had seen all week, or if this was merely another day on the job.
Detective Rodriguez smiled at Hercules’s sudden hushed tone. “Excellent,” she repeated. “Now, let’s just fill out the last of these forms. Contact info?”
Thus began the tale of the paper trail of the tell-tail fell afternoon date. It began with one dog and ended with fifty.
