Individual
Character's full name: Penelope Gildemeister Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Exstatic Gender: Female Age: 22 Date of Birth: September/19/1999 Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: New York City Nationality: German-American Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: German
Appearance
Hair color and style: Blonde, a chaotic, spiky mess. Skin Tone: Caucasian Eye Color: Vibrant, Jade Green Height: 5 feet Build: Slim and lean Visible mutation: N/A Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: A tattoo of a skull wearing headphones, beneath it a blue shard of ice cracking up and breaking apart located on her left shoulder. A bar piercing in the corner of of her right eyebrow as well as one through the top of her right ear, and a normal orb earring in her right earlobe.
Other features:Large, round, usually green tinted glasses.
Everyday clothing style: Penelope prefers greens and blacks, with the occasional blues, wearing jeans, sneakers and green hoodies with black shirts beneath, or going for sleeveless black or green shirts when the mood strikes her. Sometimes, depending on her mood, she may wear all sorts of dingle dangles around her wrists in the form of a variety of wristbands and the like.
Uniform: A set of armor designed to both protect her against impact, friction and collision, thus enabling her to safely move at speeds above 100 mph, as well as offering a higher chance of surviving worst case scenarios, inspired by the concepts already available to everyday people. And as a bonus in her opinion, it looks cool. It consists of a pair of sci-fi looking green boots that goes up into the black suit she wears beneath her body armor, consisting of knee pads and elbow protectors, along with a chest piece in varying tones of green, her gloves equally armored, borderline gauntlets even, without loosing the sleek aesthetic that Penelope went for. On her head she wears a helmet with a green visor, obscuring her features and hiding her hair, while keeping the lower part of her face free.
Sleepwear: Penelope usually sleeps in a t-shirt and panties.
Miscellaneous clothing: When she do decide to exercise, one can see Penelope in a less than fashionable tracksuit, usually the dullest, ugliest gray one can imagine, hood wrapped tightly around her head.
Character
Personality: Penelope is a young woman of emotion and logic, heart and mind often struggling against one another. She is impulsive and greedy, arrogant and easily excitable. She is very bad at wording her emotions outside of her Exstatic persona, coming off as standoffish and prideful. However, there is also kindness and love in her heart, and Penelope refuses to harm innocents and will go out of her way to save them, even at the cost of personal gain. She is likewise kind towards animals, in particular strays. Penelope falls for others easily, though it is often a very superficial affection that soon blows over. Penelope loves to mock and gloat, often going out of her way to do so towards an opponent she feels she is superior to, even in situations where it would be wiser to simply finish the fight or make her escape. Penelope is also easily distracted, be it by her thirst for knowledge, a new fascination or simply something or someone very cool, it doesn’t always take that much to distract her. While she enjoys her music, she also enjoys personal wealth, but ironically has little patience towards others arrogance and outright loathes unnecessary cruelty. She’s in the villain game for the money, not the evil or world domination.
Hobbies/ Interests: Rock and Metal music (she plays the guitar), Stray animals, women, non-profit aid of the less fortunate.
Job or part time job and description: Supervillan, Aspiring musician.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Penelope fears detainment as a result of her criminal lifestyle, as well as the prospect of someone innocent getting seriously hurt during her criminal escapades. She’s concerned what will happen to Mumbles, her cat, should she get incarcerated. Penelope both yearns and fears the concept of a serious relationship.
Special talents: She is an accomplished guitarist. Penelope is knowledgeable in the field of nanofibres and polymers thanks to Elias education, in order to enable her to repair and maintain her suit should he no longer be able. She is somewhat above average knowledge of physics, specifically regarding objects movement and velocity and their interactions (Knowledge she felt necessary regarding her powers). Besides English, she also speaks German.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Bad in a good way. Penelope is by all definitions a supervillain, having no qualms with breaking the law in her search for personal financial enrichment, but she isn’t out to hurt anyone or take over the world.
Feelings toward Humans: Humans are people like Penelope herself, but so very fragile. They pose little threat but Pen knows she has to be careful not to hurt anyone who doesn’t deserve it.
Feelings toward Adapteds: Frankly, Penelope finds the concept of someone who can simply turn her powers off terrifying as all hell. Should she ever run into one she’d run the opposite direction fast as she could.
Feelings toward Mystics: It’s like mutant powers, but different, right? There’s rules and laws and not everyone can do the same thing, right? It’s not something Pen understands, but other than that, they’re people like everyone else, right? She’d love to learn from them, having a lil magic could be real useful.
Mutations
Mutation description: Penelope’s main power is superhuman speed. She is currently capable, when straining herself to maximum capacity when moving, of reaching Mach 1 (around 761 mph) over the course of ten seconds. Like her body, Penelope’s brain works at incredible speeds as well, allowing her to perceive things clearly while running, meaning that despite moving at speeds far beyond the capabilities of a normal human, Penelope can perceive the world around her just as clearly as if she was taking a stroll. She is roughly capable of keeping her max speed continuously for 13-15 seconds if she is running on a “full tank” so to speak, but of course, knowing the dangers reaching such speeds poses to her and her surroundings, she rarely moves that fast. Part of the consequences of pushing herself to those limits, both duration and speed, is total collapse and very likely unconsciousness, which depending on her current location at the time of collapse can pose very immediate, and very dangerous problems. Pushing herself to the limits tires her out while burning the calories saved up during her large meals, and she starts making mistakes and becoming less coordinated as exhaustion sets in. As mentioned previously, in moving at such speeds, Penelope burns calories at a much higher rate, requiring a greater supply to replace them.
When not pushing her absolute limits, Penelope’s preferred speeds lays around 382 mph, which if she has eaten a meal containing the caloric equivalent of a meal meant for four people (roughly 2800 calories), she can keep for about roughly an hour of uninterrupted running, at which point she’d have to seek some source of calorie intake to replenish her reserves immediately or risk loosing consciousness. For long distance running, about 120 mph is her preferred speed. If Pen runs at an average person’s jogging speeds she can keep going roughly a day on about two and a half of her “normal meals”, though the likelihood of her being bored out of her mind long before that is extremely high.
Strengths: Super speed-related feats: Penelope can cover huge distances in a very short time, as well as react in situations and to things far beyond the capabilities of a human. The speed by which she can move allows her to perform incredible feats such as running across bodies of water. Through physics and speed, Penelope is capable of creating shockwaves through punch-generated sonic booms powerful enough to shatter brick walls and crack concrete. Though the high danger both to her hearing, with a great certainty of being blown from the volume of the boom if not protected, as well as the likelihood of the force ranging from shattering the bones in her arm at the very least, to a much more lethal outcome, to the very real possibility of the force throwing her in the opposite direction of the boom itself, which in and of itself poses a plethora of dangers depending on what’s in her way when thrown, is more than enough cause for Penelope to only use said punch as a very, very last resort.
Weaknesses and Limitations: To maintain the high level at which her body works, Penelope needs a very high intake of calories, a single meal usually containing the caloric equivalent of a meal meant for four people ( as prior mentioned roughly 2800 calories), meaning that she has to eat a lot and often, about five times a day, in order to avoid “burning out”, at which point she slows down, turning sluggish and drowsy. Should she insist on using her powers at this point, her body will start burning any available “fuel” such as muscle mass while also rendering her a lot less coordinated while using her super speed, which also slows down to shorter 10 second bursts at 40 mph at most. Pen has to spend at least a half a day resting, eating and in general avoid straining herself to recover from actual burn out. However, the further she pushed herself during burnout, the longer she will have to rest, as well as work on regaining the potential muscle mass lost, leaving her unable to properly utilize her powers at least a week if she is lucky, if not longer.
While Penelope’s brain is capable of operating and functioning at speeds far beyond that of a human, much like her physical speed, this is tied to her caloric balance as well, as it is not only her body that slows down and turns sluggish when “burning out”, but her mind as well, much like the average person experiencing heavy fatigue. While, eating such amounts of food as earlier mentioned has no ill effects on her body, doing so in public always garners attention and sometimes judgment from her surroundings, not to mention the monetary drain such quantities of food requires.
While her body can move at incredible speeds and she’s capable of registering the world around her, Pen lacks the reflexes to do high detail interactions during her bouts of super speed, from catching a bullet mid air to pulling a ring off of someone’s finger, Penelope lacks the agility and finesse to perform such actions, though she is still capable of less intricate actions such as punching someone or dodge a car thrown at her.
While fast, Penelope lacks the stamina to keep up her super speed in more than shorter bursts, and the longer she plans to use her powers continuously, the more she has to “slow down” to do so.
Much to Penelope’s frustrations, while her brain is super fast when it comes to movement and perception, she sadly cannot learn any faster than a normal person.
Much like her learning, Penelope’s body doesn’t heal much faster than an average person, only about a fourth faster, meaning that she has to be careful when it comes to using her powers, as the potential of serious injury or death is much greater. This is also one of the many reasons she is hesitant to try and push past her limits, as she so far has no idea what effects something like friction will have on her. However, since Penelope is not exempt from the laws of physics, friction, impact and the like affects her the same as anyone else, meaning that the faster she goes, the more it affects her, necessitating her suit, as moving faster than the average motorcyclist not only poses discomfort but higher and higher risks to the point of lethal consequences without it.
However, while her suit does offer some protection, it does not mean that Penelope should be any less careful, as not only is both severe and lethal injury still a possibility, the materials required are not easily come by, as well as the continued justification Elias has to give to use the machines necessary to repair and rebuild the suit limits how much and often said repairs can be performed.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Strength: Penelope is not terribly physically strong, her capabilities average for a woman of her build.
Speed: Penelope can move at speeds up to Mach 1 thanks to her mutation.
Reflexes: Penelope’s reflexes are likewise beyond the scope of humans much like her speed allowing her to react with the same speeds as she is moving, even if not nearly as great as she'd want, as she is for example unable to move fast enough to dodge a bullet.
Stamina: As long as Penelope can keep her calorie reserves (about 14.000 calories if she has eaten all five meals during a day) in the positives, she grows exhausted at rates much, much lower than a human, as long as the aforementioned calorie reserves are maintained, though if she somehow found a way to continuously supply her body with the necessary calories while running, she would still tire to the point of collapse after 12 hours of running at 120 mph.
Flexibility: Penelope possesses a flexibility on the same levels as an experienced cheerleader.
Fighting Style: Knowing she would have to fight heroes and other villains, both mutants and others, Penelope have developed a highly improvisational fighting style relying on her speed and knowledge of among other things physics.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: The fighting style is highly reliant on her super speed, making it hard for others to counter or deal with, but if her speed is unavailable, the fighting style is practically useless.
History Of Your Character Penelope Gildemeister was the daughter of the renowned scientist, Friedrich Gildemeister, a man who made it his life’s goal to study mutants, the manifestations of mutations and the powers they bestowed. After years of tireless work while raising Penelope together with his partner, Elias Meyer, her father finally developed a machine that, in theory, could awaken the latent X-Gene, granting a previously non-powered individual mutant powers. However, when the machine was to be tested, it malfunctioned thanks to Friedrich’s assistant having previously sabotaged the machine, though on who’s orders Penelope never found out, and the resulting explosion killed her father and left her unconscious.
However, when Penelope woke up in the ruins of the laboratory, a grieving and shocked Elias kneeling by her side, she found that her dormant mutations had surfaced, though if it was due to the machine or the trauma of the accident was impossible to say, granting her super speed, a speed far beyond that of any human. Spending months searching for answers together with Elias as to why the accident had happened, Penelope finally found out that the machine had been sabotaged and deducted who it could have been. But at this point, her father’s assistant was gone and as it turned out, his identity was as real as sand in the wind.
With nowhere to go and little coin to her name, refusing Elias offer of a place to stay, wishing to become independent and no longer a burden to him, Penelope took to crime, petty at first, then more and more serious as she worked up a sizable savings while learning about her powers as she went along. However, after an accident breaking her arm and three ribs, Penelope realized she needed to find a way to protect herself. Thus, she contacted Elias, and after both the initial shock from the revelation of who she had become and why, as well as quite the long and firm scolding, Elias agreed to help Penelope. Thanks to his contacts and work with fabrication and design of a slew of different protective clothing, involving freelance work with important people preferring to remain anonymous, Elias and Penelope was able to create her Exstatic persona and the gear she required. Studying and researching on the side under Elias watch and care, Penelope got herself somewhat established after about six years, never quite giving up on finding the man responsible for her father’s death, and the reason behind the sabotage.
One day while feeding strays, Penelope happened upon a cat with Grayish fur and a missing ear. For some reason, perhaps it’s green eyes, Penelope decided to take in the stray, and thus obtained herself a house cat named Mumbles. These days, Penelope spends her time as a criminal “mastermind” stealing from the rich and feeding herself while searching for answers on the side, having bought an apartment in Uptown New York. Of course, any true villain need their own secret base, which Penelope is currently working on gathering the founds to finance, as well as all the tools Elias would need to continuously repair and improve her suit. Life is good, but for how long? Only time will tell.
Roleplay What’s your OOC alias?: Nerdlette Where did you learn about this site?: Knight of Sask pointed me in your direction. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Nope Sample RP: Pen sighed as she stretched, yawning softly before looking at her chest, trying to discern the source of the heaviness and warmth she felt there. Mumbles was fast asleep, purring softly as he laid curled up on his owner. A soft sigh escaped the speedster as she couldn’t help but smile as she reached a hand up, petting the sleeping cat before picking it up and putting him down next to her. Slowly, at least for her, Pen got out of bed, sliding on her pair of punk rabbit slippers, delightful little things with a fake lip piercing and tufts of blue hair on their heads, before shuffling to her kitchen.
Once there, she began preparing breakfast, opening her three refrigerators as she brewed herself some coffee. As she drank the scalding liquid, the speedster began making bacon, pancakes, sunny eggs and toast, adding waffles to the menu with a nice, rich and thick whipped cream. Pen then smiled, fetching her glasses while leaving a pancake hanging mid air, only to return half a second later, now able to see properly as she continued.
When the food was done, Pen smiled as she sat down, reading the newspaper as she ate. “Oh dear, another clash..seems those villains never give up..at least they were stopped. Should give me some time to fetch the loot at the police station..or the jewelry store, I do believe I saw some beautiful necklaces yesterday..” Mumbles then made the rumbling resemblance of a mew that Pen knew him for from near her feet, making the woman smirk as she looked down. “What’s that Mumbles? Chill and guitar jam? What a delightful idea!” and with that, she finished her meal, threw the dishes in the sink and headed for her living room, guitar and cat in hands. Today, was going to be a good day.
