The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam revealing he was a police officer seemed to take the fight out of the woman. Not one to waste an opportunity, Sam quickly moved to apprehend Timmy. The shadows resisted Sam as he rolled Timmy over onto his chest and cuffed his wrists behind his back. The spell Sam had cast over him worked well enough though. Sam was able to bat the shadow constructs aside with his hand.
When the woman spoke up, Sam sighed. It was clear she had noticed something had happened with Timmy’s power. Maybe she had one herself and the shot that hit her had done enough to clue her in?
”I am MRC. Detective Samuel Travis.” Sam said as he stood up from arresting Timmy. He pull out his phone and texted a uniformed officer to bring a squad car around. ”As for weapons to ‘f***’ with mutations, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He looked at Timmy’s weakened shadows, ”He’s probably just allergic to being shot. Even by less than lethal rounds.”
>>”As for weapons to ‘f***’ with mutations, I don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s probably just allergic to being shot. Even by less than lethal rounds.”
"Allergic to being shot?" Sveta arched an eyebrow. "Is that really what you're going with? I can already see the hashtags."
Seriously.
"You don't feel like an adapted. It's not you. So, is it some kind of an experimental weapon? Because that would be the cherry on top. People just love the idea of the police testing weapons on mutants."
Maybe if she talked long enough she could find a way to get the hell out of here.

The woman clearly didn’t realize that Sam was using a common phrase. Allergic to being shot, having a severe allergic reaction to lead, or some variation on them were all common ways to refer to the bad outcomes of being shot. She had the tone of someone that could and likely would make things difficult for him and the department. ”Sorry, common euphemism. His power likely didn’t agree with the impact of a less than lethal round. His power might have been taxed with dealing with the energy.” Sam shrugged.
”I take it you have a mutant power if you can feel out adapteds.” That did complicate things. Though, she was also just some vigilante. That made her less of a bastion of transparency and trust. ”The police are not testing experimental weapons on mutants. We’re a bit more above board than some woman skulking around at night in a mask.” Sam stopped a moment and then added, ”Which if you wouldn’t mind removing… and let me see some ID.”
>>”Sorry, common euphemism. His power likely didn’t agree with the impact of a less than lethal round. His power might have been taxed with dealing with the energy.”
Sveta rolled her eyes.
"News flash, no one reacts well to being shot."
Especially when chased into an alley and then shot. Non-mutant people would not have handled that well either.
>>”I take it you have a mutant power if you can feel out adapteds.”
It was not a huge jump to make that assumption. Sveta's coffee buzz still flickered. She still wondered what was causing this effect, if it wasn't an adapted aura.
>>”The police are not testing experimental weapons on mutants. We’re a bit more above board than some woman skulking around at night in a mask. Which if you wouldn’t mind removing… and let me see some ID.”
Sveta's brain was spinning, trying to make a decision. Assault an officer and hope she could take him? His gun was empty, but she was not dumb enough to think it'd be an easy fight. Run? She could, but if she failed, they'd add that to the tally. Identify herself? A scandal like finding out the CEO was a vigilante could bring Haven down. Especially since Detective Travis did not look like the kind to accept a bribe.
Dammit. Sh*t f*ck goddammit f*ck.
"The MRC is not testing experimental weapons on mutants..." her eyes narrowed "... but whatever you shot me with was not normal. What, your bosses don't know?"
Time. Play for time. Sveta subtly shifted her weight. She could still run if she caught the right moment.

Sam likely shouldn’t have engaged with the woman beyond what was necessary, but she was someone who had assaulted an officer. If you couldn’t mouth off to a misguided vigilante, who could you mouth off to?
”Better rubber than lead poisoning. Right, Timmy?”
“F*ck you, man.”
”C’mon, Timmy. No one likes a sore loser.”
The vigilante woman just would not let the idea of Sam using an experimental weapon go. Sam Sighed and said, ”There are no experimental weapons, neigher officially nor unofficially. I shot you with a rubber bullet. Normal, no. Experimental, also no. But hey, if it’ll make you feel better you can take a ride to the station and make a report. After you show me some ID.”
Looking out the alley, Sam could just see the reflections of the red and blues. The squad car he’d called for was getting closer.
Timmy was all handcuffed and standing a bit wobbly, his shadows still flickering in and out of existence. It was too late to help him get away short of knocking out the detective. Which Sveta was fairly sure she could do, but she was not dumb enough to test the theory. It was not his first rodeo either.

"Oh please. I have been shot and stabbed with a lot of things and none of them made my powers cut out. If I were you I'd get your story straight. Maybe I will make a report." she sighed, walking closer. ID, sure. Svetlana Sergeyeva, former Russian mail order bride, vigilante, Haven CEO, at your service.
"Sorry, Timmy."
She had to act quick. Pushing the already wobbly shadowmancer into the detective was going to buy her just enough time to take a running leap at the fence, and hopefully make it over before the guy recovered his bearings and reloaded the damn gun. It still didn't guarantee she was not gonna get shot in the ass.
One problem at a time.

The vigilante was saying a lot that clearly she thought was meaningful. It might even be convincing were it not for one fact. Whomever she told, she would have to admit to the vigilantism to them, this would color their opinion of her enough to sow doubt. The thought of her saying it to try to get out of trouble would always be a nagging question.
However she did want to make a report. That was fair enough. ”Sure. Whatever you say. Now lets see that ID.” Sam made a ‘hand it over’ gesture with one hand
With the situation having been successfully deescalated, Sam was not prepared for when the woman shoved Timmy. Sam only just managed to keep Timmy and himself from busting it on the concrete.
”Hey! Stop!... Shit.” Sam shouted after the woman as she ran and jumped for the fence. Sam all but dropped Timmy onto his chest on the ground and set off after the woman. She had a sizable lead. She had a mutation, but it was already restrained. Sam didn’t go for his gun. He wanted to close the gap and use his knife to restrain her bodily.
”Running only makes you more tired when you ride downtown!”
