The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>”Nae metal. Ah’m pretty sure at least. Ah dunno, Ah hink th’ drug is still throwin’ me aff ur something.”
"Yeah." something was definitely off. Mirror's powers were not going to help much here, not without at least two reflecting surfaces close enough. But he could still fight. The thugs seemed very confident in their chances.
Becca flew up, somewhat slower than usual, and one man almost immediately fired at her with some... some very nasty piece of tech. "Sh*t." He drew the arrow and aimed for the man, really wanting to hurt him... but he knew they were on camera. It was a serious disadvantage.
Shifting his aim, Gawain shot the arrow through the wrist of the man's trigger hand. He cursed in Hungarian and lost his grip on the weapon. A second late another one barreled straight at Mirror, who dodged the attack, and shot a second arrow at the thugs that went wide. They apparently thought attacking him together at close range was their best chance, and sadly they were right. Gawain got clocked on his chin. Brawl it is. So much for archery being useful... or was it?

It was frustrating to know you were not performing at your best. Even now that her head was clearing up from their incapacitation, Valkyrie knew she was not moving with the speed and effortlessness she had trained to achieve.
Shrinking her body to get behind her shield as completely as possible, she was fortunate enough that the new barrage of shrapnel clanged against her shield before falling off. No chasing. Maybe it was the cut she endured in the first volley? Like the projectiles got a taste for her blood. Some impressive tech; well, scary and impressive.
>> "Becks! Arrowheads!"
Valkyrie heard the call and strained her focus to find that, indeed, she was detecting metallic arrowheads in the air. This was why she liked teaming up with Mirror. She took the metal in her control, investing whatever effort she could to guide them at the cannon squaring her up for another shot. The arrows pierced into the propulsion mechanism propped against the terrorist’s shoulder and the weapon exploded, knocking him off his feet.
”Thanks! Though it’s Valk—” She tried to be cheeky and enjoy the banter that often made a fight easier to mentally handle, but she underestimated how much splitting her focus slowed her down. Several sharp edges caught her in the arm, the thigh, the back, earning a shout of pain.
Thankfully, she did notice some of the projectiles were dropping off; maybe the signal from the broken weapon was flickering its last signs of life? Valkyrie tried to think of a way out of this until they all deactivated; maybe she needed to out-range them. She tried hovering further into the air until—
ZZZZZZZZZZZT!
The collar around Valkyrie’s neck sparked to life and delivered a jolt of pain that broke Valkyrie’s concentration and had her drop through the sky for several meters, catching more blades on the way. Fortunately, as she got low, the collar turned off and gave her just enough time to regain her ability to function in time to catch herself and descend to the ground.
Once firmly planted, she dropped to one knee and raised her shield over her head as the last of the weapons fell into it before clattering to the ground harmlessly. ”Mirror! Ah hink there’s saim kind ay shock barrier around the pitch! Disnae look loch we’re leavin’.”
It was an all-out brawl on the ground while Becca tried to rise above the barrage of shrapnel being shot at her. The arrows were useless at this point to him, but they did contain a small amount of metal. Just enough.
The explosion knocked the guy with the bazooka out, and the others jumped, giving Gawain a moment to break away from them.
>>”Thanks! Though it’s Valk—”
Becca was hurt. Gawain was angry. Angry at this whole messed-up situation that played on the X-men's good will. Angry that they seemed to enjoy it.
"Valkyrie!"
She fell. He was not sure if she was shot, or something else happened, but his heart skipped a beat before she caught herself in the last moment. Some of the thugs started towards her. Gawain kicked one that came hear him again, and elbowed another in the face.
>>”Mirror! Ah hink there’s saim kind ay shock barrier around the pitch! Disnae look loch we’re leavin’.”
"F*ck." this was not good. Gawain was ready to teleport them out of here... except they were trapped. There was only one way out of here. "Val, the shield! We need some distance!"
Mirror detached one of the smaller mirrors from his belt, the ones the used for emergency teleporting. All reflecting surfaces seemed to be out of the range of the field itself, but even inside the field, gaining a few yards was going to be helpful. If they could make it. Gawain made his way to Becca, taking in a few hits on the way, hoping she got the same idea as him as he threw his own mirror on the ground between them.

Field Observation: Razor-sharp projectiles fucking. Hurt.
None of the cuts were deep enough to do serious, debilitating damage, but Valkyrie was still struggling to focus when she had just gone through a shredder. She did not want to show signs of weakness or pain in front of human supremacists getting off to this, but it was hard to stop the instinct to shout or curse.
They would have to repay the favor. Getting angry or vengeful on a mission was a great way to lose objectivity, but how could she not want these jerks punished? She was their stand-in for the mutant threat, and she did not want anyone thinking mutants could be so easily quelled.
Unfortunately, she also knew if she fought them visciously, they would paint her as the danger of mutation. It was a frustratingly good plan; she was just mad they were caught in a trap that seemed like a losing situation every way she looked at it.
One of the terrorists got close, sporting the polymer gauntlets. Valkyrie raised her shield quickly, just in time to intercept a punch, but the impact rattled her arm. The punch was no joke. When the next one came in, she changed the angle of her shield. Instead of meeting the strike head-on, she angled it to glance off the shield, taking her arm in that direction, but minimizing the impact.
Importantly, this gave her an opening of her own. With a metal-clad fist, she swung for the man’s head, stunning him. She grabbed him by the hair and pulled his head back into her shield as she swung it back forward. With a clang, he was down on the ground.
If the choices were to look like a threat or to die, Valkyrie would be a threat.
> "Val, the shield! We need some distance!"
The command needed no clarification; she had trained with Mirror long enough now. He barely finished speaking before she was launching the circular mirror shield across the field, guiding it to some degree with her evidently diminished magnetic powers. She was not a fan of this. Not. At. All.
They were both fighting for their lives now. And it was all on TV. Probably not broadcast live, in case something went wrong, but definitely recorded to be edited as the human supremacists saw fit later. Gawain swore as the brawl went on; Becca was getting hits, and her powers were not working well. They needed a way out of this, fast. Or at least time to regroup.
Becca threw the shield, and it landed quite a distance away. They had practiced this in the DR before many times. Grabbing a hold of her, Gawain merged both of them into the mirror, and they appeared a few seconds later in the shield. Gawain pulled another arrow, aiming at the thugs running their way across the field.
"We can't seriously hurt them, this whole sh*t show is on camera!" he growled, glancing at Becca "We need to run. Somehow. The field has to be generated by something in here. We need that down, and we need the cameras down... How are you doing?"

These days, Valkyrie doubted there was anyone in their dimension shy of Mirror themself who was as accustomed to mirrorverse travel as she was. They drilled this often, because any action together in the field needed to be second nature. When Valkyrie went to Cafas to forge her shield, she had it designed with Mirror’s powers in mind.
And so, when he ran to her, with thugs charging her, she trusted him implicitly and braced for the jump. He got to her and grabbed her, and just before the human supremacists could swipe at her with some vicious-looking clawed weapon, they were gone into the mirror.
None of the attackers followed the shield, so when it landed and they emerged they had some space. Valkyrie picked up her shield as the enemies got an idea of what happened. ”Thes hurts like hell, but Ah’ll live. If Ah were them, th’ controller fer thes field wouldnae be inside th’ field itself.” That would have been too convenient.
Valkyrie grabbed a small pouch of hard, metal ball bearings and tossed them into the air. She could not push them with imposing force, but if she guided them up and forced them downward, gravity would help. As they moved closer, the men would at least have to deal with raining metal marbles. Not deadly, but definitely a deterrent.
In the corner of her eye, Valkyrie spotted the announcer booth and noticed a figure inside it. ”Jist a guess, but if Ah waur them, Eh'd keep th' controls up thaur. Nae cameras, either.” Valkyrie raised her shield, reinforcing it with a magnetic push forward as a round flew toward them, exploding against it. The smoke and heat came off either side, but she kept herself and Mirror safely behind the defense. ”But if 'at room's itside th' field, gon in thaur tae check it woods be a heel ay a shock...”
>>”Thes hurts like hell, but Ah’ll live. If Ah were them, th’ controller fer thes field wouldnae be inside th’ field itself.”
"Yeah, we're probably not that lucky." Gawain frowned, keeping an arrow pointed at the thugs, trying to decide where to shoot them that would hurt, but wouldn't look terrible on camera. Media attention was a pain in the ass. And Becca said she was fine, but the cuts still bled enough to make him worried. Another round of shrapnel rained down on them, and was barely deflected by the shield. They could not keep this up for long.
>>”Jist a guess, but if Ah waur them, Eh'd keep th' controls up thaur. Nae cameras, either. But if 'at room's itside th' field, gon in thaur tae check it woods be a heel ay a shock...”
Gawain followed her gaze to the announcer booth. It was a good guess, since there was light in there and movement. If it was inside the field, they probably made sure there was nothing reflective in there. If it was outside, maybe they did not think they needed those safety measures.
So, there was either no way in there, or there was... one very painful way in there. And with her powers dampened as they were, Becca would not make it.
"Only one way to find out." Gawain took a deep breath, letting the arrow go. It hit one guy in the leg, and he went down with a roar. "Are you gonna be okay, though?" he asked, looking at Becca. She would have to hold off the assault alone while he tried. And if the shock knocked him out... then she would be alone to finish it.

Rebecca hated this. She knew there were people in the world motivated by hate and had dedicated her life to fighting that kind of hate. They both did. That did not change how hard it was knowing she had to let the man she loved risk his life just to have a chance at saving them.
It was the right play. But she would never like it.
Their window was brief. She saw the cannon that shot at them reloading. Becca held the shield up in case something else came their way, but grabbed Gawain with her other hand.
He would be fine. She would survive, too. But on the chance they didn't...
Becca pulled Gawain into a kiss, as long as she thought they could get away with. "Ah'll handle thes. Dinnae dawdle. If ye dinnae see th' generator, hurry back. Jus... gie back tae me, please. Ah loove ye." She loved him like it was her last chance, and prayed it wasn't.
With a quick glance at the oncoming assault, making sure she had a window, Valkyrie turned her shield to mirror to give him access. "NOW!"
This was either going to be very painful... or not work at all. Gawain steeled himself for either possibility, but neither made him more nervous than the idea of leaving Becca alone, facing the full on charge of a bunch of rabid fascists. He hated leaving teammates alone in a fight in general, but this one was... going to be very bad.
Pulling out another one of the hand-held mirrors, he placed it on the ground behind them.
"Get ready to jump. In case it works." he smirked. Becca pulled him into a kiss.
>>"Ah'll handle thes. Dinnae dawdle. If ye dinnae see th' generator, hurry back. Jus... gie back tae me, please."
"Yes ma'am." He would try, at least.
>>"NOW!"
Taking the moment she allowed him, he merged into his reflection in her shield. Navigating the mirrorworld from the inside showed him the exit points available within his range, but it did not account for the force field, or lack thereof. He would only know it once he exited.
He got a look at the control room for a few seconds before he did. There was only one guy, and a bunch of lights, panels, and switches.
There was a reflecting surface above them. Which meant...
"Dammit."
Gawain landed heavily on the control panel, right in front of the man. Things cracked, either in his back, on his belt, or on the panel, it was hard to tell through the force of the impact, or the shock the collar immediately gave him coursing through his body. Sh*t, it hurt. It hurt. Gawain gritted his teeth, his body seizing up, faintly aware of the yelling in the room, but not able to tell if it was him, or the other guy, or both. There were sparks and flashing lights, and it took him a moment stretching into eternity to realize what happened.
Landing on the panel probably made the electric shock meant for him... short out the whole thing.
Somewhere out there cameras went dark. Force field flickered out. And the collars stopped working.

And with that, Mirror escaped through the shield, and Valkyrie had just a moment to spin around and block another explosive shot. With less time to brace herself, the impact pushed her back.
Stumbling, Valkyrie managed to stay on her feet just in time for the first fascist fighter to reach her. She raised her shield, just barely catching a blow, but was surprised when the impact hit her in the shoulder.
The next blocked punch felt like it went through her shield and caught her square in the chest. Each punch was generating some kind of shock wave, so blocking was useless.
Another combatant flanked her, sporting the claws that almost reached her before Mirror last teleported her. That was not an option this time.
From the box, Valkyrie heard screaming. Whatever was going on up there, she needed to move. She needed to be done with these assholes.
They both went in on her, and she knew blocking one of them was pointless. So she didn't. The claws contacted her shield, resulting in a painful scraping sound that was not nearly as painful as the punch to her stomach and the shockwave that made her spit up blood.
Running on anger and adrenaline, the shield left her hand and flew into the Shockwave man's head. Valkyrie didn't expect to do much with her diminished powers, but was surprised when the blow did major damage, knocking the man out cold.
Hoping that meant what she thought it might, she summoned her shield back to her in time to block two more vicious wipes, which left the opening to punch her attacker in the stupid face with a metal gauntleted fist.
With her most direct threat dazed, Valkyrie took to the sky, hoping mirror had been successful. She heard the sound of another weapon being fired behind her and just barely blocked a third explosive round. The explosion knocked her back through the glass of the announcer booth.
Gawain felt like he was going to black out. Which was bad because he was needed. Collars or not, Becca was still fighting the thugs, and he was her way out. Coughing, he forced himself to sit up on the control panel. Everything hurt. The man that had been working the whole thing was staring at him, yelling something rude in Hungarian. He was not armed in all the fancy tech like the others, but there was no doubt he wanted a piece of the fight now that Gawain looked good and dazed.
He probably would have won, too, except Becca came crashing through the window, knocking the man off his feet. His head bounced off the floor, and he was out cold. Gawain grinned, coughing again, swinging his legs off the control panel, trying to see if he could stand. He placed the last of the hand-held mirrors on the ground, and held out a hand to help Becca up.
"Well, seems like it worked. Let's get the hell out of here?"

Valkyrie was worse for wear, to say the least. Her cuts were still bleeding, her stomach felt busted up, and going through a window was never a good time.
Still, she scrambled to her feet once she was inside, looking to make sure Mirror was alive. Safe. She spotted her boyfriend, not looking well, but notably still moving. Given how she was doing, she’d take that.
”We can gae. Ah’m jist… might need a moment…” She got to one knee, feeling the physical toll of the day now.
“You will do no such thing.
Valkyrie was taken off her feet and slammed with her back against the wall of the room. Wielding some kind of wrist-mounted device that was keeping her from moving forward, István Kovács removed his mask. “You mutant have a knack for causing trouble, but we’ll find a way to make this footage usable.”
The politician saw how Valkyrie almost growled at his introduction, but he only chuckled as he walked to the only undamaged console where the thumb drives containing the day’s recordings were attached. “Don’t try anything cute. If you do anything,” he pointed to Mirror, “I’ll apply enough pressure that she breaks on that wall. And if the shieldmaiden gets uppity, I’ll just push him out of the window you so carelessly broke.”
Gawain felt miserable enough that even DocProf might agree to heal him, at least partially. Becca did not look much better - in fact, worse, with all the blood from the cuts. She struggled to her knee. At least now they had a way out.
>>”We can gae. Ah’m jist… might need a moment…”
>>“You will do no such thing. You mutant have a knack for causing trouble, but we’ll find a way to make this footage usable.”
Enter Tall, Dark, and Racist, with a device that threw Becca against the wall. Adrenaline shot through Gawain's system. In that moment, he would have murdered the guy without a moment's thinking.
>>“Don’t try anything cute. If you do anything. I’ll apply enough pressure that she breaks on that wall. And if the shieldmaiden gets uppity, I’ll just push him out of the window you so carelessly broke.”
Well, f*ck.
"Why am I not even surprised you are the bad guy around here?" Gawain growled, staying put sitting on the console "I mean, really? What, you did the math and decided there were more fascist votes than mutant ones, or do you just have something really tiny to compensate for?..."

Yeah, Mirror had a point: this guy's turn to the dark side was not the most surprising revelation. He was giving them unsettling vibes from the moment he picked them up, and Becca tried to dismiss them as typical old white politician vibes. Sadly, he was the ultimate form of an old white politician, and he had some pressure weapon currently fixed on her.
It was like a steady gravity keeping her from moving past the wall, but Valkyrie could still move. She reached for the belt around her waist and clicked a small trigger. Around the time body cams were becoming more prevalent in policing, she got a camera of her own, both for accountability and to document confessions. She hoped he would fail to notice her, but Mirror was doing an excellent job gaining his attention. Valkyrie would have worried, but she was more concerned with figuring out the plan that got them both out of here alive. No stupid heroic sacrifices today.
"You insolent brat. How could you understand? You mutants monopolize the media, showing off your flashy powers and acting like victims. You mislead impressionable youth. That's how it starts; convince the youth you're not a threat, and soon, mutants take over with their freakish powers. No more; thanks to my First Men, the world will see what mutants really are thanks to you: dangerous but defeatable."
Valkyrie fought every urge to respond with "Ok, Boomer," feeling it would undercut the villainous moment and, more importantly, steal from the anger focused on Mirror. Glancing at the ground, Valkyrie noticed the small mirror her boyfriend still had on the ground. She saw the play now. "Ah dinnae; ye seemed pretty defeatable it there," she pointed out grunting against the force. "Whit dae ye think, Mirror?" This guy had a temper; it was obvious in the way he spoke. All Mirror had to do was push him just a few steps further...
Saying something about a dude's size was the easiest trick in the book (thank you, fragile masculinity). The man's attention was on him now, but he was still holding Becca in place. Gawain slid off the panel, standing on his feet, as he casually leaned back, watching the rage unfold.
>>"You insolent brat. How could you understand? You mutants monopolize the media, showing off your flashy powers and acting like victims. You mislead impressionable youth. Oh, for f*** sake.
>>"Ah dinnae; ye seemed pretty defeatable it there. Whit dae ye think, Mirror?"
"I mean, he's right about the media, we look pretty awesome on camera." Gawain smirked, folding his arms "But dude, I have a question. First Men? Really? Is that like... is that a caveman fetish type thing, or does it just refer to the fact that your girlfriends got bored of you always coming first?..."
The shockwave hit the remaining pieces of the glass window a split second after Gawain merged into the mirror on the floor.
