The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rebecca smiled, her nose twitched when Gawain kissed her. She and Glynna were allowed to have their own secrets. Gawain did not need to know how discretely she grabbed the handkerchief on the way out of her apartment so she could shove it into her bodice. The experience of wearing revealing costumes that lacked any real pockets made her efficient with storing things in bras, bodices, and anywhere else she can hide something.
The registration felt faster than it probably was because Rebecca was allowed to lose herself in admiring all the hard work people put into costumes, props, and the personas they crafted. Soon, they were signed in and carrying their bags out to the field. "Ah think Ah dae, actually. Ah've ne'er seen ye fence, Ah dinnae think. Once Ah gie plenty of cheerin' fer ye an' work up an appetite, we can explore th' groonds an' gie saimthin' tae eat." There was so much they could do, Rebecca did not want to commit to too many things. They could start with the tournament and figure things out from there.
Becca offered her arm for Gawain to take. She leaned into him and kissed his cheek. "Lead th' way, my strapping soldier!"
They got off the bus before the conversation could get off the rails, and registered for the event. From this point on, the whole day was open. Gawain waved at a few people that walked past them. Most of them were moving towards the fighting sites; Becca was not the only one excited to see some swordsmanship.
>>"Ah think Ah dae, actually. Ah've ne'er seen ye fence, Ah dinnae think. Once Ah gie plenty of cheerin' fer ye an' work up an appetite, we can explore th' groonds an' gie saimthin' tae eat. Lead th' way, my strapping soldier!"
"That... sounds like an adult movie." Gawain deadpanned before they began walking to the rapier grounds. People were already gathering there too, getting their weapons inspected and putting on fencing masks. Gawain found a spot in the shade to put down his bag, and began changing for the fight. The leather jacket stayed, but the hat had to go because of the mask; the rapier was tied on his belt, and he dug some gloves out of the bag. He tucked the handkerchief into his belt and tied it so it was visible, but not in the way.
"Hey! D'Artagnan!" a man yelled in their direction, waving a hand. He had short grey hair and elegant blue-green garb, and a wide smile. Gawain rolled his eyes, but returned the smile.
"That's not my name, Your Excellency, and you know it."
"I do I do. But hey, if the garb fits... Who's the lovely lady?"
"This is B... Glynna. My girlfriend. Glyn, this is Baron Fitzwilliam. He's the Baron I serve."
"Whenever you actually show up, son. A pleasure to meet you, Glynna." the Baron smiled, offering a hand "Are you fighting today, Alex? Or is she fighting for you?"

Rebecca patiently watched Gawain prepare himself for combat, swapping a hat for his helmet. She did entertain the idea of trying her hand at one of the competitions, but she was in no rush to make that choice. She was familiar with shields, but she might make a fool of herself with a sword in her hand. That was not even considering her outfit, which was—to say the least—not optimized for running around and fighting.
A jovial older man approached them, calling Gawain by what she initially assumed was his persona before Gawain clarified. Not that she would not have bought D’artagnan; he was enough of a wonderful nerd to do it.
Gawain called the man “Your Excellency,” but Rebecca could not recall off the top of her head what that would signify. All she knew was it would rank him above her, which was a start. She let the two men get their teasing and formalities out of the way and Gawain introduced her.
He was a baron! Perfect; at least now she would not seem totally clueless. She bowed to the best of her ability in her dress, accepting his hand. ”It’s an ‘oner ter meet ye, your excellency.”
Evidently, Gawain’s attendance track record was lacking, but Becca understood; being an X-Man made it hard to find time for all the social events one might want to be part of. ”Alex ‘ill be de one fightin’ today. Not dat Oi can’t peck me own fights when Oi want ter,” she added, smirking. ”For today, I’ll just chare on my soldier boy, Alex.”
The Baron and Becca introduces themselves; Gawain could tell that they were going to get along just fine. He had friends in the barony, and people were generally friendly towards significant others, even if they were just dipping their toes into the whole reenactment thing. He chuckled at the idea of Becca fighting. In real life, she probably would have easily handed the fighters their collective *sses. But today was not about real life.
>>”Alex ‘ill be de one fightin’ today. Not dat Oi can’t peck me own fights when Oi want ter. For today, I’ll just chare on my soldier boy, Alex.”
"It's Alexandre" Gawain muttered with a smirk before putting the fencing mask on "I'll go get checked in." he nodded after the Baron who walked back to his post at the fields "How are your powers holding up with all the armor around?"

Rebecca curtseyed as they left the Baron to himself, keeping pace with Gawain as they went to get him checked in. As Gawain guessed, her magnetic sense was certainly active. ”Well, Ah can tell ye everyain around who sprang fer metal plate or chain. Ah guess th’ others are leather or somethin?” She could imagine how pricey it would be to make armor. Well, she did not have to imagine; her old costume used to involve plenty of plate armor. For hobbyists, it might be easier to work with a cheaper material.
While Gawain got himself readied up, she looked at the masked man and smiled. She pulled her lipstick from her bag of things and applied a fresh coat. ”Hey Alexandre.” Rebecca took Gawain’s mask and lifted it enough to expose his cheek. She planted a kiss above his jaw, leaving her peach-colored imprint where it would not be seen after she put his mask back on. She would know it was there. ”Good luck it there. When ye hear th’ loudest cheerin’ in th’ crowd, that’ll be me.”
>> ”Well, Ah can tell ye everyain around who sprang fer metal plate or chain. Ah guess th’ others are leather or somethin?”
"Plastic barrels, usually" Gawain grinned. Some armor was pretty historically accurate, while others were... more of a cheap and practical kind. As long as they worked for basic safety, they were allowed to be on the field. On the other field. Rapier was more of an art form, as long as you asked people that actually liked it.
>>”Hey Alexandre.... Good luck it there. When ye hear th’ loudest cheerin’ in th’ crowd, that’ll be me.”
She planted a kiss on his cheek, and Gawain flashed a grin at her, before putting on his mask. Becca was such a romantic sometimes. Or maybe the whole medieval setting was just getting to her.
The field was already full with people pairing up for the tournament. Equipment was checked, and rules announced, before they all got down to fighting; simple process of elimination led to whoever would remain standing last. It could have been said that was it was not quite fair, for a trained X-man to compete in fighting... but to be fair, Mirror had never quite learned to fight by any kind of rules, so keeping to the whole points system kept him from having an obvious advantage. That, and the lack of reflecting surfaces... maybe he was not the only mutant at the event, but from the tournament, one would have never known. The rapier fights were flashy, quick, and all-around entertaining. And it was good to have Becca along, cheering. She sounded like she was shaving a good time.

Becca was having a blast. The excitement of the crowd was contagious, and the duels were well-worth the applause. It was clear the combatants were taking part because they found joy in it, making the bouts feel more worthwhile.
And then there was Gawain, of course. Becca loved Gawain, the Fighter. He had many sides to who he was, (not even considering the Maya sides,) but she held a soft-spot for Mirror in combat. They went on missions together, they sparred together, and watching Gawain in the thick of the fight always got to her. The skill, the flashiness, the bravado. She loved it.
When the opportunity presented itself, Becca slipped down to the ground level to sneak a moment with Gawain, her Alexandre, between matches. Raising a hand, she tugged against his rapier, influencing the magnetic field so the weapon soared to her hand. She swiped it through the air a few times. ”Did ye know Oi find swordsmen sexy? Cos now I do. Oi could watch ye fight all day.” She grinned. ”Well, at least til the urge to tear aff all yer gear got the better of me.”
Becca offered the rapier back to her boyfriend. ”Ye should show me a thing or two sometime. Oi use a shield already; can’t ye see me bandying about with a sword?”
There was a pause in the fighting while the judges restructured the lineup, and Gawain sauntered over to the edge of the field, towards the telltale red and green that was his girlfriend. Becca seemed excited. When he got closer, there was a tug on his rapier, and the weapon flew to her hands.
"Showoff."
>> ”Did ye know Oi find swordsmen sexy? Cos now I do. Oi could watch ye fight all day. Well, at least til the urge to tear aff all yer gear got the better of me.”
Gawain lifted the mask to give her a look; his dark hair was plastered to his face with sweat, but he had the usual smirk on.
"Are you trying to distract me?"
Because if she did, it was working. It had been working since she put the garb on, but now she was catching on to her newfound powers.
>>”Ye should show me a thing or two sometime. Oi use a shield already; can’t ye see me bandying about with a sword?”
"God, no" Gawain grinned "You have a shield because you are our General USA. Why ruin that?"

Becca expressed mock-offense at being called a showoff, despite the label being entirely accurate. If her boyfriend was going to be impressive, she had to be sure to meet him step for step.
The mask lifted, giving Becca a glimpse of Gawain, and her breath caught. It was a wonder there were not mid-mission incidents of Becca pulling Mirror off the field for a proper snog. The X-Men should appreciate her restraint, because that cocky smirk paired with the sweat and exertion of the fight equaled out to Becca’s kryptonite.
The redhead kept her composure, because they were disappointingly in public. ”All Oi’m saying is if General USA could make swords fly, he woulda used a sword, too.”
Rebecca stepped closer to Gawain, brushing the plaster locks of dark hair from his face. ”And for the record, love.” Becca leaned in and planted a sizzling kiss on Gawain’s lips, sure his mask and her waves of red hair would keep the display somewhat obscured from the onlookers. ”Oi wouldnae dare distract ye, and Oi dinnae know what would have given ye that idea.”
She smirked, pulling Gawain’s mask back on. ”Good luck out there, Alexandre.”
>> ”All Oi’m saying is if General USA could make swords fly, he woulda used a sword, too.”
"We can debate that at a later point" Gawain conceded, taking his rapier back. The fight was not quite over yet. He briefly wondered what would happen if Becca actually joined the organization and got herself into one of the many activities. Rapier? Heavy armor?...
>>”And for the record, love... Oi wouldnae dare distract ye, and Oi dinnae know what would have given ye that idea.”
The kiss was really something, even with the awkwardness of the gear he was wearing. Now she was flat out taunting him, and it was working.
>>”Good luck out there, Alexandre.”
"You're a supervillain, Glynna."
The last round of the tournament was a melee; it was a free for all with various points systems and rules. Gawain seemed more comfortable in this than the one on one - after all, the X-men rarely fought opponents that were polite enough to wait in line for their turn. There was a lot of excitement on the field with swords and other weapons everywhere, and the participants were clearly having a lot of fun. Gawain was one of the last ones standing, until he caught a glimpse of Becca cheering, and the distraction was enough to get stabbed in the gut. Oops.

There was a mischievous glint in Rebecca’s eye and she did not correct Gawain’s jab at her. She enjoyed playing with him, and maybe she enjoyed the boost it gave her to sway her boyfriend. He was a fighter and a hero, but she knew weaknesses not everyone got to exploit.
The final fight was a chaotic blur of weapons flashing and strikes weaving from the collection of remaining combatants. It was a thrilling way to conclude the tournament, and Gawain was at home in the thick of it all.
Enthusiasm overcame Becca, who had remained at the ground level to cheer her champion on. Her shouting was loud, and she leapt up and down (to the best of her ability in her costume,) celebrating every successful blow Gawain landed. He looked her way, and she bit her lip, picturing the handsome man she knew beneath the gear and mask.
And then she covered her mouth as Gawain was stabbed in the stomach. Admittedly, with a fencing rapier, she was not concerned about mortal injury like she might be on the field, but the point still stood: she definitely, one-hundred percent got her boyfriend “killed.”
She waited at the edge of the battlefield, sure she was gonna hear about this one when Gawain was done.
Gawain got to his feet once the melee was over. It had been a good fight and he had fun with it, even if his own stupidity got him killed in the end. Everyone shook hands and saluted and then walked off the field; there were other things to do and other places to be until the winners were rewarded at court in the evening. Gawain walked back to Becca, already shaking off parts of his fencing gear.
"So, that happened" he noted as he got back to her, quirking an eyebrow "Winners will be rewarded in court. We have plenty of time till then. And I need a shower."

Rebecca’s expression softened as Gawain joined her, removing his armor. ”So, in hindsight, distracting ye and letting ye get stabbed in the tummy was not my best choice,” she admitted. ”But ye were still amazing out there. Ye more than earned my favor.”
Rebecca matched Gawain’s quirked eyebrow. ”A shower, ye say? That sounds like a great idea.” The mischief was still in Rebecca’s eyes, accompanying a growing hunger. ”Any chance a very appreciative consort could join her soldier? Oi really should freshen up for court, shouldn’t Oi?” That sounded like a totally plausible reason to join Gawain in the shower, right?
>>”So, in hindsight, distracting ye and letting ye get stabbed in the tummy was not my best choice. But ye were still amazing out there. Ye more than earned my favor.”
"Yeah. Less jumping next time" Gawain grinned. He was not too disappointed about having been killed on the battlefield, but that did not mean he could not give Becca grief about it. He peeled off his mask and his surcoat, tossing the unnecessary pieces into his bag and enjoying the fresh air on his skin. Rapier gear was not heavy armor, but it was still pretty suffocating.
>>”A shower, ye say? That sounds like a great idea. Any chance a very appreciative consort could join her soldier? Oi really should freshen up for court, shouldn’t Oi?”
"Well, it's entirely your call" Gawain grinned, with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Tossing the rest of his gear into a pile, he walked off, stripping his vest and his shirt as he went. At a nearby wall the camp site had a water pump, and someone must have expected tired soldiers, because a few buckets were already standing by, filled with water. Gawain walked up to one of them, and unceremoniously dunked his head in, surfacing a moment later to shake water off his hair like a dog.

To her credit, Becca’s jumping was not an intentional move to distract Gawain. It was definitely something she would do intentionally if it occurred to her, but she was genuinely in the moment. Distracting Gawain was a pleasant side-effect.
Turnabout was fair play, though, as Gawain decided to make her painfully aware. Becca followed him as he peeled away his vest and shirt. Gawain shirtless and dotted with sweat had obvious effects on her. Mouth hanging slightly open? Check. Unavoidable staring? Check. Losing her train of thought? Yet another check.
Gawain soaked and dripping with water.
Where was she going with this?
Oh, right. Her boyfriend was hot and she needed to stop gawking. Gawain dumped a bucket of water over himself, putting a damper on Becca’s hopes of a private shower. She giggled and jumped back when Gawain shook out his hair like a shaggy dog, spraying her with water. ”Mmm, a shower sounds nice, but it might take me three days to get back in this dress. Also, ye’re being cruel. This,” she gestured at Gawain in all his soaked, handsome glory, ”is entirely too much when we’re in public and Oi cannae ravish ye.” Oh, the sexy retribution she would claim the moment they were away from prying eyes.
