The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

What was Mirror to do when Becca was wrapped up in her world of confusion and misery, when she couldn't really put words to what she was feeling, and when she insisted she needed time apart while still under the influence of her evil insect ex? Obviously, talk to the other Becca.
Impact and Becca were not the same person; they did not match in every way. But they matched just enough to be someone Mirror could turn to with this problem. He trusted Impact and Jesse, if for nothing else, then because they both owed them a lot. Plus, he had not even seen the baby yet. So, he showed up, with some hesitation and a lot of baby gift, at Jesse and Impact's, knocking politely on the door instead of barging through a mirror. Jesse had a bad history with mirrors, anyway.
Jesse, on his part, was grateful for the distraction. It had been a long few days since the baby began to spontaneously exhibit mutant powers. Powerssss. From what Jesse knew, human babies were exhausting too, but one that could...
"Oh, hello Gawain. Come on in before the baby floats out."

Motherhood was a blessing. Rebecca loved her baby. She had to remember those two facts and repeat them like a mantra.
Because as it turned out, having a mutant newborn was not easy.
There was always the possibility of having a mutant child who was born mutated, but it was not a concern Becca gave much time or thought to. How silly of her. Even if she was prepared for a mutant baby, she was never going to be prepared for the swiss army knife of babies.
Rebecca’s hair was tied back so it could not get frazzled or messy as she ran around and exhausted herself, but she had the face of a woman who had not seen a good night’s sleep since the birth of her child. The infant was in her arms, but at the moment, her pale, freckled child instead had grey, dappled skin. Indeed, he seemed carved out of stone. Moments ago, he was even as heavy as a stone, making him exceptionally hard to carry. Black eye, left, she had written in the little notepad on her desk.
Thankfully, the right eye had turned hazel, and she already documented what that meant. Less than thankfully, hazel meant floating. If Becca let her child go, he would float around the room, moving around slowly but unpredictably. Significantly worse than having a crawler.
Becca noticed Jesse reentering and called out, ”We’ve got another one. Black eyes mean a stone baby. At least with haz—oh!” Becca smiled, realizing they had company. She sighed, relieved to see someone who was another adult. ”Gawain! Good to see you drop by!”
"The baby what now?" Gawain blinked as the door opened. Jesse was wearing a male body today, but even his bulkier frame he looked rather worn out. Gawain got inside and the door closed just when Becca appeared as well, looking... well, looking as a mom with a new baby was to be expected to look.
>>”We’ve got another one. Black eyes mean a stone baby. At least with haz—oh! Gawain! Good to see you drop by!”
"Hello!" Gawain waved a hand. The baby was way cute. Also... stone baby? "Sooo... your baby manifested?"
"Did they ever" Jesse grinned, ushering the guest into the living room that looked more like a barely managed war zone.
"Whoa." Gawain blinked "That's... exciting? Should I come back some other time?..."

Not everyone liked knowing they had an interdimensional doppelganger running around with the Rip linking two worlds, but Rebecca and Jesse decided early on that they liked Becca and Gawain. The two were not the same people as they once were, but there was still a sense of nostalgia there, like watching younger versions of themselves play out a big series of what ifs.
Gawain was a good guy, though he seemed unsure of how to deal with the new parents in their mentally exhausted state. ”No, no, stay. We’ll be fine. It’s just been something to grow through.”
Rebecca cautiously let go of her child, watching the stone baby float in place, giggling. ”Our kiddo inherited mommy’s heterochromia, but each eye color has a power, so this little one is mixing and matching. Never a dull moment,” she admitted with a weak laugh. Babies were stressful, but this was a whole different challenge.
”But there’ll be time to fawn over our superbaby. Were you just dropping by, love? Or did you need something?” She was taking a small break from X-Leadership, but she would never turn down Gawain or Becca if they needed some help.
No wonder they looked so worn out, if their baby was already manifesting mutant powers. Mirror had been one of those, but as far as he knew, a baby shifting sexes every night was still one of the easier cases compared to... setting things on fire?...
>>”No, no, stay. We’ll be fine. It’s just been something to grow through. Our kiddo inherited mommy’s heterochromia, but each eye color has a power, so this little one is mixing and matching. Never a dull moment,”
"Wow... that's quite the power" Gawain grinned, looking at the floating baby. Jesse, on his part, walked over to take the baby over, cradling it gently as it continued to bounce and giggle.
"Not dull, but kinda perfect" he noted with a proud smile.
>>”But there’ll be time to fawn over our superbaby. Were you just dropping by, love? Or did you need something?”
"Well, uhh... I brought baby gifts" Gawain pointed at his bag of useful things that Ms. Taylor... Mrs. Cervantes?... helped him pick out "But I did want to talk to you about something, if you really don't mind. It's about Becca. My... um, the other Becca."

Rebecca beamed at the way her husband (or at least currently her husband) took pride in their perfect mutant child. Parenting a powered newborn was not going to be easy, but it would be a challenge she welcomed because she would be doing it with Jesse.
Gawain, being ever the gentleman, was kind enough to bring the parents gifts. Her team, or what was left of it, gave a helping hand as well, but with the new costs of a new baby, any help was appreciated. ”Thank you, dear,” she replied, moving to grab the gifts now that Jesse had taken over their rock-baby.
Of course, the baby was only part of the reason Gawain came to visit. Rebecca’s head had been focused on X-Men business and possible SUPER news, but the specific mention of her own doppelganger got her smirking. Jesse had filled her in on the conversation they had with Becca about Gawain and the friends with benefits situation. They had a laugh about all the similarities between the younger pair and their own colorful past together. Admittedly, Gawain was not an art thief, but it would have been boring if everything played out the same way.
Rebecca tried not to be presumptuous or sound assuming, but there was a lightness to her tone when she asked, ”Oh? And what would you like to discuss concerning your Rebecca?” She was not going to ignore an almost slip like that.
There was a definite smirk on Jesse's face as Gawain asked for advice. He managed to get the baby back into a bundle, and then shuffled off, humming to himself. This was a question for his wife, and the less he heard about it, the better. It was strange enough to have two of her running around, let alone discussing the other one's life with someone else...
Gawain, on his part, took a seat in the living room, and looked at Impact a little sheepishly.
>>”Oh? And what would you like to discuss concerning your Rebecca?”
Oh great, she had caught the slip Gawain barely noticed he was making. The mirrorwalker sighed.
"Becca and I... uh. Are taking a break from... well, pretty much everything. Turns out her ex is back and she's a nightmare. And I might have... made a mistake I don't know how to fix. It's not really a relationship thing... but I'm worried for Becca. Her ex is batsh*t insane." he frowned "I was hoping you could give me some advice, because, you know... not that you are the same person. You are not. But... um. This is weird. Is this weird?"
"It's definitely weird!" Jesse chimed in from the other room.

”It’s definitely weird,” she agreed, nodding. ”But if I were you, I’d probably be here to.” And then there would be three of him. As stated already, things were very weird.
Rebecca had listened carefully to Gawain explain the situation, and it was also weird. Gawain seemed emotionally drained by the whole situation he found himself in. Things with Becca were “on a break,” which made Rebecca frown. Breaks were muddy and ill-defined and she personally liked the idea of Becca and Gawain together, watching out for each other. (Admittedly, she might have been biased.)
It sounded like Becca was in a rough spot after going through some ex mess. Most people had a bad ex or two, but Gawain made it sound like this was something more serious than that.
It was a very emotional situation, but Rebecca wanted to understand it in her more logical way. That meant understanding what had happened. ”Okay, hun, that sounds… messy. So… what is she doing to make you worry? Is she with this ex of hers now?” She furrowed her brow; a declaration like Gawain’s could be jealousy, but she did not peg Gawain as the jealous type. ”And Gawain… what makes you think in all this you made a mistake?”
>>”It’s definitely weird. But if I were you, I’d probably be here to.”
Okay, that was fair. Really, who would not have taken advantage of having two copies of a person, to talk to one of them when the other one was pissed off? Even if the Beccas were not the same person by far, they were still close enough for comparison. Or at least some friendly advice.
>>”Okay, hun, that sounds… messy. So… what is she doing to make you worry? Is she with this ex of hers now?... And Gawain… what makes you think in all this you made a mistake?”
"Oh. That's because I slept with the ex." Gawain deadpanned, running a hand through his hair.
"Ouch!" came the reaction from the other room.
"I didn't know who she was!" Gawain held up a defensive hand "And apparently she planned it that way. She... tortures Becca, emotionally. She asked her to give up friends, and work, and everything. And me. And then Becca refused to give me up, and that's what the trump card was for." he sighed. He was not going to forgive himself for that anytime soon. "So now we are done with... whatever we had, and I am worried that she won't be able to get rid of the toxic b*tch that is her ex. I don't know how to help."

When Gawain explained how he upset Rebecca, Rebecca did not comment like her husband, but she did noticeably wince. It was not the best choice Gawain could have made, at least how he phrased it.
His defense was fair, though. Whoever this ex-girlfriend was, she was cunning and sadistic. Playing head games and sex games to torture her ex went above and beyond typical bad ex drama. That was abusive.
”Well.” Rebecca needed a moment to even think of how to attack a problem like this. ”This chick sounds genuinely awful. I don’t blame you for worrying that Becca might fall back into a bad situation. It sounds like you were really put in a position to fail.” Clearly the ex understood the importance of putting a wedge between Gawain and Becca.
”Except… don’t you think Becca, deep down, gets that? She’s not dumb. She’s hurt, but I doubt she holds a grudge against you for sleeping with the ex from hell.” Maybe it would be easy to get mad at something like that initially, but reason and time would help her see Gawain had no control over the situation and did not realize the mistake he was being led into. ”Maybe that’s not the reason she pushed you away, Gawain.”
When laid out like that, the whole thing seemed to be even more of a mess than what it felt like. Gawain felt embarrassed to admit all that to Becca, but if he was going to get some sound advice, he needed to share the details. As strange as it felt, looking straight at someone who looked like... his version of Becca.
>>”Well. This chick sounds genuinely awful. I don’t blame you for worrying that Becca might fall back into a bad situation. It sounds like you were really put in a position to fail.”
"She's terrifying." Gawain admitted. Whatever it was that Agnes had cocooned into was not even remotely relateable. But she was very, very mean, and potentially deadly.
>>”Except… don’t you think Becca, deep down, gets that? She’s not dumb. She’s hurt, but I doubt she holds a grudge against you for sleeping with the ex from hell. Maybe that’s not the reason she pushed you away, Gawain.”
Damn, she was quick. Or maybe she just knew herself really well. It was hard to guess which, but she definitely found the other part of the problem, even while Gawain was trying hard not to go into that.
"Yeeeahh..." he sighed, running his hand through his hair again "It's a part of it. The other part... Becca and I were teammates before we were friends, and then we were friends long before... the benefits. And it made like the reasonable arrangement. We are great together in... many ways. But last time we met, Becca told me she wanted to stop, because she... had feelings. And that's a rule, apparently, for these arrangements. You get feelings, you quit." he sighed "So now we are neither friends nor benefits, and she is dealing with the ex fallout alone. And I just... I don't think she'd let me help her."

Rebecca wished she was in a position to smile at the news that Becca had feelings for Gawain. Her and Jesse had long believed the two might end up in that position, not because they were copies of a married couple, but because they saw the easy chemistry between the two younger mutants. In other circumstances, she would have joined Jesse in some lighthearted teasing, but this was not how anyone wanted to see that news come out.
”Hmm, that does put you in an awkward spot, Gawain. It’s really easy to suffer something that rocks you and assume it’s best to be alone.” The two Rebecca’s had very different situations, but that self-defense mechanism was apparently the same. When I was going through one of my lowest points, I pushed the people I had left away. I felt like such a failure and a burden, I thought they were all better off.” After the X-Fallout, Geo and Doc could not reach out to Impact, no matter how hard they tried.
Rebecca’s somber expression softened into a smirk. ”And then a charming and incredibly annoying art thief found a way into my life and really didn’t give me a choice but to stop pushing and confront what I was feeling.” It was lucky Jesse was a stubborn son of a b***h.
”It sounds like our favorite little Scot dropped a lot on you all at once. She might think she’s better off dealing with things on her own and not dragging people into her life, but if she’s anything like me, she’s being an idiot.” Rebecca rested a hand on Gawain’s shoulder. ”My advice? Don’t give her an option. Be there for her because she’ll need you. When that dust settles… well, maybe then you can deal with what to do going forward. Because you can’t just ignore what she admitted. Wait. Did you say anything back when she told you how she felt?”
Gawain had been so taken up by the whole Agnes thing, and the revelation that Becca had been hiding a toxic relationship for months, that the other part, the part where she called it quits because of feeling, barely registered on the radar. Or rather, he did not have the energy to even begin thinking about that part. It would have been messy even without the whole 'I slept with your evil ex' thing.
>>”Hmm, that does put you in an awkward spot, Gawain. It’s really easy to suffer something that rocks you and assume it’s best to be alone. When I was going through one of my lowest points, I pushed the people I had left away. I felt like such a failure and a burden, I thought they were all better off.”
Becca might not have been the same as Impact, but Gawain was at a loss of options, and the words did make a kind of sense. Becca did keep a whole lot of things a secret.
>>”And then a charming and incredibly annoying art thief found a way into my life and really didn’t give me a choice but to stop pushing and confront what I was feeling.”
"She did say charming!" Jesse chimed in from the other room "YEAOW!... The baby just shocked me!"
Gawain snorted at the banter (and the idea of a baby with an electric charge), but Becca was not done helping just yet.
>>”It sounds like our favorite little Scot dropped a lot on you all at once. Gawain blinked.
"No?..." he said hesitantly "What was I supposed to say to that? She is in a super f*** up place. Emotionally, I mean. She's trying to get out of something toxic. I'm not gonna take advantage of that... she's my friend!"

Rebecca perked up at the commotion in the other room. Shocking? She took a small departure from her conversation to reach for her notepad. ”Hmm. Hun?” Rebecca called out to Jesse. ”What color eye is shocking? I don’t have that one recorded yet!”
After a moment of waiting for an answer, Rebecca set her baby notes back down and returned to Gawain’s challenge. Becca was going through a painful experience, but the gendershifter was also put in a losing position.
True to form, Gawain was every bit as noble and honorable as his namesake. ”You’re better than most men out there, Gawain. Truly. Well, Becca might have needed a little space, but she probably needs support more than she’ll give herself credit for. Regardless of other feelings, you clearly feel like you need to be there for her. Don’t let her just push you away if she needs you around for this.” Becca was a cocktail of nationalities all known for being stubborn, so if Gawain wanted to be there for her, he would have to try harer.
Rebecca reclined in her seat, momentarily enjoying her reprieve from baby duty. She folded her arms over her chest, tilting her head. ”So I get she’s in a bad place and it’s not the right time and all that. That being said…” She looked over to the other room and softened her voice. ”Just between us, if things weren’t so screwed up, what would you have said? Just tell her you’re better off as friends? Or…” She trailed off, letting the implication linger, curiously eyeing the boy.
>>”Hmm. Hun? What color eye is shocking? I don’t have that one recorded yet!”
"Looks blue to me!" Jesse reporter, sounding a little pained "... The plastic diaper seems to help."
As far as parenting went, these two had really hit the "oh sh*t" jackpot. Gawain held back a chuckle as much as he could. There were other things to talk about. Like how messed up a situation Becca was in. Were her feelings even real, or was it just something that she held on to to make herself brave enough to defy Agnes? Could a trained psychologist even answer that?
>>”You’re better than most men out there, Gawain. Truly. Well, Becca might have needed a little space, but she probably needs support more than she’ll give herself credit for. Regardless of other feelings, you clearly feel like you need to be there for her. Don’t let her just push you away if she needs you around for this.”
Gawain nodded. "Thank you." It was a fine line to walk, being helpful and being pushy. He really wanted to help, but without knowing how, it was likely that he would do more damage than good. Becca confirming that he should keep trying was already worth the visit.
>>”So I get she’s in a bad place and it’s not the right time and all that. That being said... Just between us, if things weren’t so screwed up, what would you have said? Just tell her you’re better off as friends? Or…”
Gawain blinked. Becca was curious. And the question was valid. What would he have said?...
"The hell do I know" Gawain sighed, resting his forehead in his hands for a moment "Becca is... she's Becca! We've been like... we've been friends forever. It's just..." Natural? Like breathing? "Look I have had serious girlfriends before. This is... different."
