The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There. She'd admitted it to herself. Somehow that always made it easier to deal with the nerves, and Janelle allowed herself a tiny big of hand wringing as she made her way towards the greenhouse that always looked so lovely on the Mansion grounds.
It wasn't that the redhead had avoided the place, but she hadn't needed to take any classes that brought her out there during her last year of school and she hadn't really been able to find a reason to visit since. Janelle knew that the teacher who occupied the space had her own set of powers specifically geared towards the plants and it had almost felt wrong to intrude.
Things had changed recently though. It seemed like everyone Janelle met provided more proof to her that her powers were something to sutured and expanded, not simply controlled and left to be. Gawain had been the first, and he'd been far more direct than Max. Max had just shown Janelle that control over your powers could do some pretty awesome things.
Resolved to make her case and ask the woman in the greenhouse for help, Janelle made her way inside. Immediately, the redhead could feel all of the plants within the four foot radius that her powers were able to extend. It was warm and comforting, and it made what she wanted to do just a little bit easier.
"Hello!" she called, softly, but loud enough that her voice would hopefully carry, "Is anyone here?"
Ugh. Why hadn't she bothered to research what the teacher's name was?
She was busy grading the tomato plants for their final grade. All of them looked well tended, they all had fat tomatoes on them, and they smelled nice and fragrant... But the smell, which usually gave Xavia pleasure, was not helping the overstimulated sense of smell she had going on right now. She was about to go check on the rabbit and the guinea pig at the front of the greenhouse when there was an odd feeling passing through her. She had not yet encountered someone who shared her kind of gift. And then a greeting was called out. Xavia turned and gazed in some confusion at the young lady who seemed to affect the plants close to her, and her brows shot up.
"Yes?" asked the older mutant in blatant curiosity. She moved to approach the young lady in question, head canted to the side, "May I help you?"
She waited for an answer from the girl who looked like she was nervous. Xavia kind of sympathized with her, for she had been nervous when she was younger, and it hadn't made transitioning from normal to gifted easy at all. She wondered what the girl had to be nervous about... Xavia was most certainly not intimidating, for she was much too short and cute to be. Was it the sheer size of the greenhouse? It was kind of big, but there were many plants to accommodate.
The occupant of the greenhouse...wasn't exactly what Janelle had expected. Honestly, Janelle didn't know what she'd expected, but it wasn't the particularly lovely woman who made herself known at Janelle's calls.
Could she help?
Janelle smiled a bit nervously and moved forward, hands clasped in front of herself and uncertainty positively oozing from her very being.
"Um, I'm hoping you can help." she said, voice more steady than the little redhead had worried it would be. "I live here at the Mansion, and I heard that your abilities deal with plants."
Janelle hoped she wasn't being too forward. Talk of powers and abilities had been such a foreign concept until recently, "I never got to have a chance to have a class with you...but my abilities deal with flowers too."
There was more, all she had to do was get through all of it. Hoping everything came out as well as she had rehearsed it in her head, Janelle plunged forward.
"I went to enough of the tutoring sessions to learn how to control what I can do, for the most part, but recently I've been thinking that I might want to do a bit more than just control it. I want to do things, and I was wondering if you could help."
There. She'd said her piece. Janelle smiled hopefully as she waited for the other woman to digest her words.
Xavia listened intently as Janelle explained herself. Xavia was smiling before the girl was even halfway through. It was good to know that she wasn't the only one. She welcomed it, in fact. Xavia moved closer, and the scent of roses mingled with all of the smells within the greenhouse, and the older mutant would lay a hand on the girl's shoulder in hopes of easing her. "I could... Always use help around t'e greenhouse." she nodded as she spoke in her somewhat, but not overly heavy accent. "I can even pay you for it. I welcome everyone in here, as my intent is to share my babies wit' t'e world."
She gestured to the desk for Janelle to have a seat, "Please do sit down while I tend to t'e pets. Unless you wish to gat'er some fruit and lettuce for me to give to t'em... Guinea pig loves lettuce and rabbit loves raspberries." Her intent was to immediately put her to ease, to make her feel comfortable where she was at and not worry about being weird for asking Xavia to help her.
It was one of the reasons she was loved as a teacher. She made sure the kids were all included somehow, she gave them hands on things, not just writing assignments, and she tried to make it fun. It was no surprise that her class had been booked through until the next semester.
Janelle smiled as the older woman placed a hand on her shoulder, nerves beginning to abate as the other woman strove to put her at ease. The greenhouse really was a beautiful place. The caretaker knew her charges well and took good care of them.
"I'm happy to help with anything you need." Janelle said, "Though I couldn't accept pay. I'd just love to be around and watch what you do." she added, moving to start collecting the things that she'd instructed to gather for the greenhouse pets.
"I didn't transfer in here until the end of my Junior year, and I graduated early, so I'd already finished all of my science requirements. I never even got to meet you..." the little redhead paused as she brought the gathered fruits and vegetables to where the animals were kept. "Or get your name..."
There was all kinds of things to look at. While Janelle got a good look around, Xavia followed calmly so the conversation could keep going. She listened while the girl explained she had graduated and that she didn't get her name. "Well, since you are no student, we can skip formalities... I am Xavia... And you are?" She had an interesting name, and would sound it out a little. It was always a surprise when people who knew how her name was spelled to know it didn't sound like Xavier, but instead, Saviah, with the long s.
"You're here now, you are welcome here, and I like to give money away, so pick a charity if you won't take pay."
She had answered with ease, not phased at all by the questions... AFter Janelle got the food for the animals, Xavia directed her to the roomy looking animal cages and two, fat and happy looking critters.
