>> ”As a former criminal, I feel like I should be offended by the lack of trust,” Nate joked, before quickly adding, ”But you’re right. Best to stay above board.”
“I trust you,” Devon nodded, “It’s the criminals who didn’t want to reform I don’t trust. Heck, it isn’t always about reforming either. It’s about what they want to do with their skills.” Robin Hood was a criminal after all, wasn’t he? And in a way, they could be too. The thought was there.
>> ”I have contacts that can tip the mayor off without anyone ever knowing that Haven was involved in something as shady as this,”Natalie offered. ”There’s no need for someone associated with Haven to show their face on this one.”
>> … ”We have unique strengths in our organization, and we can’t ignore them by being petty.”
Well this was getting awkward.
Devon chuckled in attempt to laugh it off. “I agree though Noel isn’t the person to meet the mayor. She’s for getting herself into that relay office and picking up any information we can get. She’s perfect for that mission.” He nodded back to Natalie, “But otherwise, good, you can use those contacts to let the mayor’s team know about that diner.” He smiled and nodded once more.
>> ”Do we have anyone serving as a point of contact yet? To coordinate and communicate assignments to the members involved?”
Devon smiled. “We do now,” he nodded. “Leverage whom you think best to help coordinate. Secret Keeper is a good suggestion. Any that don’t go out on a field mission can likely help here behind the scenes. Not everyone will be going out, after all.”
With a deep breath he nodded, “I think I’m going to make some calls for this. Get things moving. I’ll put them in contact with you, Nate.” His blue eyes turned to Natalie, “I appreciate your candor in our meetings and that you’d take on overseeing the training program through the Ranger and his team. I trust you two can figure out your personal concerns just as well.” He gave a glance to Nathan and then gathered up his folders.
A small smile crossed his lips as he left the LIE to the two telling themselves one of the most common ones of all.
