The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Even when Rebecca was telling Aura to relax and adjust to life as a free woman and a civilian, the former captive took her words as an order. There was no winning. Ironically, part of her wished some of her team was around to take notes. ”Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying,” she replied, chuckling at the knowledge that it was probably the hardest order Aura received in recent memory. (Then again, after what happened, “recent memory” was also her only memory.)
Rebecca winced at the first offered name, because it definitely sounded like a “mutant name.” Some mutants chose to forgo their birth names, and some chose or were forced to take on a codename, but if the goal was to keep Aura incognito out of missions, Solkat would be a hard sell.
There were a few names offered, and Rebecca found herself wondering where Aura was pulling them from. Of course, her experience with names would be limited given her stunted memory. Were they names of former captives? Or perhaps she had echoes of memories before her time at SUPER, and they were names of old friends? Hell, maybe she read the names in a book somewhere and they left an impression.
Of all the names offered, one was close to subtle, if she could just offer a tweak. ”Lovely names, though some might catch some looks. I don’t think Xion Xin quite suits you.” It was a name, yes, but with her complexion, it was not one people would buy. ”What if… maybe we shorten Mai’aria to Maria?” A white girl with dark hair and the hints of possible Western European descent could pull off Maria and no one would bat an eyelash. ”If that works for you, of course. It’d be your name, after all.”
It was funny. Rebecca had only adopted, so this bizarre moment was one of her first chances in life to potentially name another person. It was a weird amount of weight on her shoulders.
Aura had been hoping that would not be the case. Still it was what it was and Aura considered the merits of the idea. Still she to concede that Rebecca's memory vastly outstripped her own and that Rebecca was now her leader. Orders were orders after all. It would allow her to help her people which was also something she really wanted to do and needed the x-men for. Aura could draw comfort and peace from combat but the idea of living a normal life was a scary one for her. Her internal conflict played out unknown to her, in samll flickers on light blue or some times short lived ripples just above her skin.
"Works fine for me" She said liking the name. It would be an adjustment Aura realized a she would have to learn to respond to this new name. Maybe the name was a symbol of her fresh start. Maybe that was it, she just had to focus on moving forward, things were going to change yes but like nature one just had to adapt and move past issues. The x-men would in a way be a family for her since she could not recall her own. Her aura calmed back into the faint outline around her body as her mind calmed.
" The idea of making my own choices is terrifying. I will over come it of course and i believe my discomfort is a positive thing. The idea i'm more then a weapon now, will take getting used to as well but that's why i think it's good i'm uncomfortable because my comfort zone has been determined by those with much less noble means' she was trying to say her discomfort with living a normal life was good because she was comfortable with violence and other things. As her doubt returned the ripples started from her brow and flowed to the top of her head before seemly dissopearing like a wave hitting shore. She did not believe rebecca was trying to control her, in fact she was pretty sure Rebecca would have let her walk away if she wanted and yet all she wanted which was scary.
"I don't know if it helps but i know how to extract bullets from people with my Aura as well as I can guide stitches with it. I have all the major organs and veins memorized as well as most of the major arteries. she said trying to make herself seem more useful like a child trying to earn praise. She decided to leave out the rather bloody ways she recalled she had learned those skills.

The idea of accepting a new name and identity was not something Aura was looking forward to, but she did accept it. Rebecca wanted her to find her free will so she could start making decisions for herself, but until then, there were moments of convenience when someone followed orders implicitly. She accepted the name, seeming to appreciate it. It was a good start. ”Good. We normally use codenames in the base, but I’m going to be using your new name for the time being just so you have time to adjust to it. A new name’s not helpful if it never registers when people use it. Understood, Maria?” Rebecca had to admit, looking at the fairly attractive brunette, she thought Maria suited her.
Maria clearly illustrated her concerns, but Rebecca had long since figured out what was troubling her. She still listened patiently as the new recruit spoke, watching as ripples ran over the blue aura surrounding her. She made a mental note that the ripples were more common when she was conflicted or stressed. Her powers might respond to her emotional state, which would be important to know if they did bring her into the field.
The leader could not help but grin as Aura tried to prove her usefulness, listing off some (admittedly impressive) talents. ”Maria, you don’t have to sell yourself. I’m sure you’ll be an asset to the team once you’re ready. But I promise you, you have it in you to be ‘more than a weapon.’ SUPER may have hid away those other parts of you, but we’ll help you find that again. I promise.”
Rebecca extended a hand to rest it on Maria’s shoulder, hoping to comfort the younger woman, (and also hoping the aura did not impale her hand.) ”I should probably check on the other rescues. You have full reign of the base, with the exception of my office. Take a walk. Hell, we have a telly in the conference room. Just… I know it’s going to be weird at first. But focus on you. And I’ll be around.” She seemingly spent more time at the base than her apartment anyway.

Aura took a deep breath and calmed herself. The ripples in her aura faded until it returned flat. The idea made sense and Aura pushed her own dislikes aside and while she could not banish them from her mind she did bury them as deep as she could. She had to adapt she knew and she had to do whatever it took to make sure she succeeded her new orders. What Rebecca said about the name made sense to her and was determined to adjust, despite her own buried misgivings and worry's.
"I Understand" she nodded she did understand but Rebecca was right in that the name would take getting use to but she found something unexpected within her, when Rebecca called her by her new name. A sense of pride and ownership welled up within her. Sure she would have accepted almost any name suggested but the idea that she had the chance to choose it or that she could have picked another was somehow important to her mentally in ways she did not understand.
"Not trying to sell myself. A Leader can not act on information she does not know, the more one knows about what those fighting with them can do, the better they are prepared to use those talents and allocate personnel in the most effective and efficiency methods possible. she said though she considered the source she based that ide aon a moment longer then she would have before her rescue. "I believe you" she continued. Super had stolen much from her.
Well her aura was not dangerous, Aura by instinct and training made it retreat from her shoulder before simply letting it fade entirely. The hand on her shoulder made her twitch but she knew it was something she would have to get use to if she was ever going to have the normal life she needed in order to do this. "I will try to focus on myself, i can only hope, your other rescues are less...like me" she said struggling to consider the word and settling instead. She hoped the others were in better condition, she had known some of them briefly but not enough to know if Super had not treated them as they had her.
