The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was Quin’s reaction that served as a reminder that, when most people mentioned having a child to an old friend (or ex-girlfriend,) it was logical to assume that the child was a recent revelation since the last time the two spoke. The way Nate presented things, it might have sounded like he recently had a child and might have even been rubbing this fact in Quin’s face.
”I feel like I should clarify here: I haven’t had a kid since I met you.” It was the truth, even if there was a time when it almost was not, but bringing up Megan would only add unnecessary complications to his explanation. It was also easier to justify the decision making of Stephen Graves because Quin knew the man he was before they met, and how flawed he was. ”This woman kinda crossed paths back into my life, and… well, she told me she had my child almost seven years ago.”
Nate sighed heavily, remembering how harshly Nat ripped off the bandaid when giving him the biggest news of his life to date. ”I had no idea until last month. Now I’m slowly becoming part of this little girl’s life, and… I don’t know, Quin. I’m happy, but it’s kinda terrifying.” This from the man who volunteered for prison and once fought a giant zombie turkey. ”I can’t help but think of all the ways I could screw up a kid.” If things took a turn for Norah, there would be a clear “before and after” moment to determine how much he was at fault, after all.
Looking back to his ex-girlfriend, Nate realized he was putting a lot on her unfairly less than half an hour after their reunion. ”I’m sorry, didn’t mean to unload there, honest. I don’t have a wealth of people to talk to this about. There’s my therapist, but his answers are so… therapisty.” Devon was a great guy, but he dealt with analysis and opinions, and Nate had been looking for an ear to listen. ”You were always easy to talk to,” he admitted, though that was equally unfair; they were in a different place when Nate would confide in Quin, and she owed him no service as a confidante anymore.

Well. As it turned out, the conversation could get more awkward. Quin nodded her head slowly as Nate explained that the child had been around for a while, before he'd even met Quin.
Had the situation been different, it would have been a whole hell of a lot to take in. As it was, Quin was able to simply shake her head. If anyone had a flare for ending up in bizarre situations, it was Nate.
He seemed worried though, and insecure and Quin frowned across the table at him as he apologized for bringing the topic of conversation up. It seemed he'd been seeing a therapist as well.
"All I know is that a kid with a dad has a way better chance than a kid with a dad who knows about them and chooses not to be involved." Quin didn't know first hand, but she'd heard all of the research.
As for being easy to talk to...Quin couldn't help but chuckle. "No...casual conversation was never was a problem, was it?"
Besides that, Quin didn't know what to say. Down she looked at her hands, and subsequently his, eyes landing on something familiar.
"Nice watch." she said, with just the slightest of smirks.
Nate recognized (eventually) that the topic of his mystery child could be an awkward one for Quin, but in his mind, they were two adults hoping to be on friendly terms. Things ended, and while he would always have a place in his heart for Quin, they had both surely moved on. He was not sure how he would have handled her returning with a little Quinlette of her own, but he wanted to think he would have been supportive.
Thankfully, that was what Quin was. He caught her frowning at his self-doubt, and she reminded Nate that being there for his daughter (now that he knew he had one) was going to be the best thing for her. It was not a flowery assurance that he would be a great dad, but it was an honest and factual nudge to remind Nate that he was doing the right thing. It was a very “Quin-like” form of support, and he was glad for it.
She did make a clever little remark about the kinds of conversation Nate was fine sharing with her, and it was one he deserved. He sighed before smiling and replying, ”Hey, I’m working on this whole ‘open and honest’ thing. Turns out, unlearning a fifteen years of learned behaviors is a process.” A process that, sadly, had been too slow to save a promising relationship, but it was too late to regret that now.
Instead, he could focus on the positive. He smirked when Quin pointed out the wristwatch he wore daily, (unless he was painting, of course.) Nate had not forgotten where he got the watch, even if he could not bring himself to wear it for the first two months after their breakup. ”Thanks. It was a gift from someone important,” he explained as though she might be unaware she was the gift-giver. ”She could be a stubborn pain in the a**, but that was kind of her charm,” he joked. Nate wanted Quin in his life in some capacity, because in truth, he did still see her as someone important.

Now he was working on the whole open and honest thing?
"Better late than never." she said, "Though I have to admit that falling on the sword of truth and going to jail would seem to indicate significant forward progress." .
It was still kind of weird for Quin, looking across the table at Nate and considering the fact hat was a Dad. She didn't have long to muse over the fact though, because her attention quickly shifted to the watch that she had given them on the fateful night so many years ago when they'd broken up.
"Huh." Quin said as she took another drink, studying the cup in her hands with a small frown. "Sounds like she might have been a bit of a handful. Maybe a bit of a hypocrite too." .
It was the closest they were probably going to come to rehashing all of that, and it was probably the closest that Quin was going to come to apologizing to her part in it all.
Nate considered quipping back that getting caught and screwing up a perfectly good relationship was clearly part of his long, arduous recovery process, but the joke might have been received poorly. He would blame the return of Nat in his life for his habit to cut low with his sarcasm.
”Yeah, I figured I didn’t have any real plans for about four years, so why not, right?” he joked, downplaying what had actually been a nerve-wracking decision for him.
It was expected that Quin might play along with talking about herself in the third person, but what she said sounded almost like her claiming some of the responsibility for their breakup. There was a frown on her face; not much of one, but he spotted it and wanted to do something about it. They might not be together, but he still liked seeing Quin happy.
And so he grinned and shrugged his shoulders. ”A handful? Definitely. A hypocrite? Who’s to say? But she was fun and kind and way too patient with me.” Quin was not perfect, and neither was Nate, but they had their moments.
Looking back down at the watch, Nate actually looked past the symbolism and used it to tell the time, as one did with watches. ”Aaand that’s pretty much my break,” he said with a frown. He had no problems with skipping eating during his break, but he was genuinely sad to have to cut his conversation short with Quin.
Reaching into his pocket, Nate found a pen and a receipt from his breakfast that morning. On the opposite side of his bagel and coffee, he jotted down his new phone number and offered it to her. ”Here; for if you ever feel like hanging out. We can grab a drink; maybe this tea I never got to try,” he added with a light-hearted wink.
”I’m really glad I ran into you, Quin.” He was unsure of the right way to end the interaction. Was it a handshake? Was a hug appropriate? Quin was his first ex-girlfriend, so he was not well-versed in the etiquette, so he would follow her lead. She rarely led him astray anyway.

How long had it been since she'd thought about all of this? A long time, that was for sure. Long enough that letting the memories seep through the cracks in the mental door she'd carefully constructed was painfully nostalgic. Nate spoke and Quin shrugged, "You always did give me too much credit." she said.
Apparently he'd been on break, and as Nate pointed out that he needed to go and Quin looked down at her phone. Her own alarm was set to go off in two more minutes. The conversation had been destined to be short.
Quin watched curiously as Nate produced a pen and receipt and jotted down his new number. Nothing he had said indicated that there was any motive to the action, just an offer of friendship. That'd be weird, but Quin took the slip of paper anyway.
"Mine hasn't changed." she said in reply, "And I'm glad you did too..." she almost said it had been too long, but after the way things had ended, it didn't seem like the right sentiment.
