The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

After his very, very detailed description of some of the worse enemies he'd faced, Maya's jaw hit the floor, and he couldn't really blame her. For people with limited lifespans, hearing that somebody else had encountered the things they'd seen only in history textbooks was somewhat unsettling.
"Dude." And wait for it.
"Duuuude." Any moment now.
"A nuke? Really?..." And there it was. He had witnessed Nagasaki, up close and personal, and his body had a lovely time trying to reform after that disaster. It was slightly unpleasant to wake up in a complete wasteland, lacking clothes and whatever else had been on him at the time (they had been destroyed by the bomb), only to discover that he'd been out for two months and had to catch up on quite a bit - namely, the fact that the war was over and most of the people he'd known at the time were either long dead or dying.
"That's... probably the most lucrative B movie plot I have heard in a long time. Well, on the plus side, old guns are not all that accurate, right? And guillotines are not exactly combat weapons..." He could say something, but he decided against it. It was probably better not to bring up the many times he had been shot by old guns, even if it took quite a few shots. And that one time with the rusty guillotine blade someone had trashed and the bandits in that back alley.
"... wait, were you... you know... were you ever really..." Maya drew a finger over her neck to demonstrate what she meant, and Danny probably should've seen that question coming. Either way, he just shrugged nonchalantly.
"Yeah, French Revolution. Wasn't fun, and my body had to regenerate from the head, so that took a while. Woke up in a pile of rotting corpses with the part that didn't regenerate next to - actually, you probably don't want to know that." Total destruction didn't happen to him nowadays, so he didn't really encounter anything too modern that fazed him, but the ancient stuff sure did. So hearing about it probably would faze Maya too, and so he should really move on to a different topic.
"Anyway," he said briskly, quickly changing the subject. "What are we going to do about these shadow things? I don't think there's any real way to trace them back to the source, since they seem to be spawning randomly. Any ideas?"
Feel free to go for killshots. I don't mind - but you probably will. Danny speaks in flame red.

She probably didn't. But still. There was a larger question hidden behind all of this: Did Danny just seek out international conflicts out of boredom, or did they follow him wherever he went? It would be an important question to answer. Later.

"Er..." Maya looked around, running fingers through her hair "Crowd control, I guess? I mean that's what the X-team usually does anyway. I'll try to phone Sam and let him know out theory. In the meantime... we already know we can effectively kill other people's nightmares. So let's go help some people out... Um. Follow the screams, I guess?"

"Sam. Who's Sam?" was the first thing Danny asked, before nearly facepalming in embarrassment. There went his naturally suspicious personality, and that was in no way what they should be focusing on. God, having morals was such a struggle now.
"Actually, ignore that," he said quickly to try and cover up what he had said. "Follow the screams. Very good logic. Do we not want to figure out the source of the nightmares, though? That might help just a bit." There were just two of them, though - he wasn't particularly sure how they could solve anything, especially what seemed to be a citywide epidemic.
But right on cue, someone screamed a few alleys away, followed by a rather disturbing squelching noise that Danny did not really want to see the source of. He glanced at Mirror, motioning at her to go first. "After you?"
