The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

New York. It's a crazy city. A big city. Full of big crazy and little normal, and a mix of everything in-between. He'd been in this job for a while now, with his partner, Raz, and he'd seen tons. Probably more than before he'd joined the police, when he was just an X-man. Giant Ape-Men, skyscrapers that were alive, bulbasaurs the size of parade floats... and so much more. He'd once responded to a call about a panda bear that was on a vicious rampage through downtown New York. When they caught up with it, it turned out it just had an affinity for a mutant with animal communication powers, and had escaped from the zoo because it wanted a hug. Nobody had been hurt. They'd just been scared. Shin figured that made sense. Pandas were usually sedentary. Seeing one do something other than eat bamboo would be a terrific shock!
Today, he was doing a fly-by. Just average Tuesday maintenance, checking to make sure there wasn't any trouble in his neighborhood. His partner was in a car, down below. He was on a navy blue hovering triangle, up above, in full uniform. So far, nothing had jumped out at them. His ears were getting cold, but he was glad for the calm.
The mass of muscle skulked down the alley. A snorting sound escaping his nose as his purple eyes scanned the area. Daniel was fast asleep, completely un-aware. He knew nothing about what was going on. 'The Beast' was feeling hungry, hungry for the feeling of plunging his fist into a target and watching their life slipping away. Having to save lives when he was dwelling inside Daniel, it pained him.
Daniel's alter ego smirked a wide, sharp toothed grin as he spotted his target. A young woman making her way towards the alley he was standing in. He crouched and his eyes were fueled with a primal urge to strike but his higher thinking over-wrote it and he hid. The girl came closer. Closer. Her body reflecting the light of the noon sun. A large hand shot out and a scream echoed down the alley. The blood-curdling scream must of been able to be heard for miles but 'The Beast' would be done by the time anyone arrived.

Oh god. The woman was scared! Scared enough to scream out of shock! What was this thing!? Who was it? And why? She didn't want to use her mutation. No, this woman (whose name happened to be Sarah Conner, by some cruel joke of the universe) would have to get her saving from someone else. If she used her mutation, it would be bad. 'Whole-chunk-of-the-city' erasing bad. She'd used her power once before, in the mountains, in a little cabin her father had used to own. The key word there was 'used to'. Nobody really owned it, now. It was hard to own rubble. Maybe at least he could claim ownership of the remnants of land, but really... So, she screamed. It was a very good scream, too! Several people heard it!
Of the several people who heard it, a certain Asian on a flying triangle was one. He messaged his partner on his radio, to let him know he'd heard something as he moved down and forward through the air on a course that directed him towards the direction from where he'd heard the sound.
Triangular pupils scanned the area, flicking over it inch by inch, centimeter by centimeter. As luck would have it, another scream caught his attention. He made a quick course correction, and there he was.
The Asian touched down on the concrete of the alley way, triangle shattering into several triangles that drifted up around him to hover by his right fist. After a moment, they merged to form an arm-length blue glove.
His eyes snapped on the big guy. The woman raked her long fingernails at the monster's face.
"Hey," Shin said. He pointed for emphasis. "Stop." That big guy had better stop.
The Beast heard something. A sound. The mass of muscle grabbed the girl and forced her against him, using her as an impromptu shield against the unknown foe. He held her against him, forcing her to look at the Asian man who'd just interrupted him, he held her neck tightly. One move and he could snap her neck. The blue-gloved man didn't scare him. The two words his spoke were not threatening. The girl has used her nails to scape his face but 'The Beast' ignored it, it was a minor annoyance.
"You move and I will tear her throat out!
He snarled at him, showing him he meant business. The mutants other hand was behind her back, digging into her spine. He needed this. He needed to spill blood. She was going to die by his hand whether he was interrupted or not. His hand tightened slightly more around her throat digging into it with his nails.
A twisted smile playing on his features. His eyes shot back to the Intruder. 'The Beast' had killed before. He'd met Police before when he was Daniel. The uniform gave him away and it was unlikely he was alone. The large Mutant, eyed his surroundings and backed up away from the Cop with the girl still in his arms. The Police Officer didn't seem a threat. 'The Beast' would feast on him also.

With his hand around her neck like that, it really made it difficult to tell him she wasn't sure how long she could keep her explosion power in-check. Also, she wasn't sure how well it'd stay that way if, say, she was dead. That last idea was a hypothetical. There was no way he was stupid enough to do that. And if he did, it served him right.
The Asian had dealt with guys like this before, situations like this. Give a guy a hostage and he'd eat for a year. Teach a guy to take a hostage... and he would take hostages, that bastard. Shin didn't give him the pleasure of seeing him sweat. His mind was already formulating a plan to solve this situation, anyways. Already behind the big guy in the air above his head, small triangles were coalescing.
"I'm a police officer," He said gravely. And if the guy glanced at his belt, he'd see the badge pinned there, visible for all. "Now, as I said before. Stop."
The small triangles formed the shape of a handgun. A non-firing handgun, of course, but this guy didn't need to know that. The gun drifted down to press its nose into the small of his back.
This Police Officer thought he had it under control. He knew nothing. He under-estimated 'The Beast'. He felt something press against his back, it felt like a fire-arm. He didn't know. Ofcourse he didn't. He didn't know that inside him was an Innocent Doctor, a Doctor that had saved people's lives. This girl was meaningless but he knew Daniel would save her given the chance. Stupid Stupid Daniel. That's why he was in control. Daniel would be nothing without 'The Beast' protecting him.
The Beast examined the woman. She was young and the perfect target. His eyes then focused on the Police Office. He saw the badge, The Cop had dealt with hostage situations but he hadn't dealt with 'The Beast'. No-one who had was alive.
'The Beast' had no fear. No remorse. This all showed on his face. He wasn't some desperate bank robber with no-where left to turn. He was doing this because...His mind was blank. The hand tightened around the girls neck again. Crunch. 'The Beast' then decided upon something else. He threw the girl at the Police Officer while releasing a bellowing roar. 'The Beast' didn't know what he'd just done. He didn't know what was going to happen. He hoped to use this chance to see what was behind him and deal with it and then kill the Police Officer slowly and painfully or die trying.

Mutations are an interesting thing. Sometimes, you think you know how yours works. You think you have it all figured out. You know you can levitate spoons, so obviously you're a telekinetic, or maybe you're manipulating metal? But what you think isn't always how it turns out. Turns out, your power, stupid as it was, was restricted to spoons. The woman thought her power made things explode around her, and left her seemingly unscathed. She thought when she died, it would trigger, and there'd be nothing left of her, or anyone around. It turned out, she could only manipulate spoons.
The explosion happened around midfield, directly between the bony monster and the Asian cop. It wasn't as strong as she'd thought it would be. It didn't need to be. She hadn't completely understood how it had worked, anyways. Why have a power built around doing a great amount of damage, and putting your life in risk, when you can have a defense mechanism that can take you out of harms way, or even reverse the damage you took within the last 10 seconds? She'd had no idea her mutation was such a cheater. But that's life, isn't it? You don't always get what you want? Sometimes, you can only levitate spoons.
In the seconds after the explosion, things got hairy. Shin didn't have time to do much reacting to the toss, other than the knee-jerk defensive moves he'd trained for. There was no sudden welling of grief, no crippling loss of will due to self-doubt. There wasn't anything special. He just called back the gun-shaped shard construct and spread it into a glass-like blue wall, adding more from on his person, and from within. Some were rapidly created, and didn't hold up to the blast as well as others. They shattered, and the resulting psychic backlash felt like a punch in the face. He flew through the air, backwards. For a guy used to flying, he didn't make the falling with style look good.
A similar thing got to happen for the beast.
When the force of the explosion dissipated, spread out, a second later, it drew itself back in and snapped itself together, landing on the concrete in a heap of naked woman, neck not snapped, safe, for the moment. Cheating. Bending spoons.
The Asian hit the ground and his butt bounced twice. Ow. A groan escaped the unconscious woman's mouth.
The explosion, by the way, had been orange and red.
The explosion was a surprise the say the least. 'The Beast' suddenly felt his body lift off the ground as the force of the explosion launched his backwards, he didn't move quite as far as the Police Officer did but he bet he fell twice as hard. His head collided with the ground and his eyes blacked out.
His body became slightly less monstrous. His bone spike shrinking and his body getting slightly smaller, all the signs of his transformation back. "What? Where am I?" Daniel appeared to be waking up some. No! Daniel's body was almost human when 'The Beast' re-gained control and the bone spikes extended and his body grew larger. He wasn't sure how long he'd been out, it couldn't of been too long. Two minutes are the most. The recently-distracted Beast tried to focus back on the Police Officer, surely he was affected by the explosion too perhaps it had killed him? but that was wishful thinking.

Two minutes is a lifetime, as far as explosions are concerned. Especially on the streets of New York. Someone had already called someone. The police were already on their way. Sirens could be heard wailing in the distance. An ambulance, squad cars. And the Asian's partner was already on the scene.
His goggles caught the light with a faint glint as Officer Schafer helped the Asian to his feet.
"The ambulance will be here within the next ten minutes," he said calmly. His hands gripped Shin's shoulder, steadying him where he stood.
What happened would have been a stupid question. His mind had already put that together. Boom de yada, boom. Suddenly for some inane reason, the Sci Fi channel's I Love The World music trailer was bouncing through his head. He grunted acknowledgement to his partner. He was a bit worse for the wear, but he wasn't deaf, and he wasn't dead. He could comprehend. And he could also see the beast getting up. With another grunt, he gesticulated. "Nnnn!"
Schafer's firearm lifted up in the air to train itself carefully on the monster. "Stay where you are." He suggested. "An ambulance is on its way, and can help you." He'd hate to have to make the poor ambulance crew's work load worse.
'The Beast's first thought was the sound of sirens in the distance. He was out-numbered and out-gunned. His eyes focused on the New Police Officer that had appeared as he lifted himself up. The Police Officer had his weapon pointed at 'The Beast'. The Monstrous Mutant stared at the Cop and opened his mouth to let out a terrifying roar.
He stopped dead. He wasn't going to attack just yet, the firearm was pointed at him and he'd heard an offer of 'help. "Help?! Why would I need help? I enjoy this!" A wicked smile shaped his features and he bared his sharp teeth at the two men. More Police Officers would arrive soon. 'The Beast' turned his head down the alley, there was no doubt that the Cops had blocked the only exit.

"You enjoy... getting thrown across alleys after snapping women's necks...?" Shin managed. What kind of person was this? That was crazy. He was worse than Giant's Bane. "We can help you," He restated. "It doesn't have to end the way you think it does."
The guy was planning to try and hurt them. He got that much. But he wasn't being entirely stupid about it. At least, not at the moment. That might come later.
Sure enough, from one end of the alley came sounds of movement. Shin wasn't sure what it was, but hoped it was backup. Maybe if they showed numbers, this beast would give up and stop trying to hurt people. He hoped ambulances were nearby, too. For the woman. And as an afterthought, he realized he might need one, too.
Schafer silently agreed with his partner, showing it all in his demeanor. The look on his face, in his eyes. The slight nod of his head spoke worlds.
The Beast let out a bellowing roar towards the Police Officers. The movement behind him had not escaped his notice but he dared not turn his back on the two cops especially the Mutant one. The Mutant Police Officer spoke to him briefly asking a pointless question and one more suggesting that they could help him. "No-one can help me!" The Beast swung his arms at the air infront of him warding off the Police Officers. The Beast's voice decreased in volume slightly."I don't need help. What I need is to feel the life of a being be extinguished in my hands and I will feel it again soon enough.
The Beast charged however instead of towards the Police Officers, he charged towards the near-by wall. He pushed his foot off the wall and escalated as he grabbed onto the fire-escape that was attached to the building and climbed as quickly as he could. He was sure they would attempt to stop him from escaping some-how. "Mutant! I will find you again and next time, I'll wring your neck in my hands!"

A bullet would have ricocheted off metal or brick if he'd fired it. The shot had been lost. The man had moved too fast. Schafer lowered the gun. His partner took a few steps forward. Shin didn't want to let the bad guy go. He stumbled on the fourth step, and Schafer caught him. A curse escaped Shin's lips.
"That bastard..." He muttered. His words were coming out fast and slurred. "Get helicopters on him. I don't want him to get away with this. He--" He hadn't noticed that the woman had survived the blast. As Schafer held him steady, his eyes had fallen on her. He nodded his head her way. "Is she still alive?" He asked. "Did you check?"
The first ambulance worker trickled onto the scene, a pair of cops on his heels. Schafer called out orders while the Asian's eyes stayed locked on the woman. He hadn't protected her, hadn't moved fast enough. If she was dead, it was his fault. God, he hoped she wasn't dead.
In the hustle and bustle of the crime scene, things got hazy. The order for helicopters got lost. Officer Shinbo gave out a description. Wanted posters were going to get posted... because the monster had got away.
