CharacterPersonality: Alice is two sides of the same coin. At times she can be very energized and active, willing to socialize and converse with anyone she meets. She is very patient and lacks a temper, rarely getting angry or irritated, and has a high tolerance for all types of people. She can be quite open about herself and doesn’t mind vulnerability, viewing it as a strength and a demonstration of bravery rather than a weakness, though some of her peers find it off-putting. Other times, however, she can be a total introvert, preferring to spend her time alone. At those times, Alice can be completely silent and moody, consumed by whatever thoughts are going through her head, and can even show signs of insecurity or self-consciousness, a sharp contrast to her usual brazenness. She can be a bit naive, and falters and freezes up during conflicts, not knowing how to properly mediate heated situations. Due to her eccentricity, she finds herself going through friends quickly, often only managing shallow relationships with her schoolmates, save for a few very close ones.

Fears/ phobias/ concerns:- She is acrophobic (afraid of heights) and thus has a fear of flying.
- She has issues with familial commitment. After seeing the true love between her mother and father morph into true hate, and the relationship between her mother and brother deteriorate, Alice has lost faith in family and does not envision herself ever having one in the future.
Special talents: She can read at a rate of 600 words per minute and hit a mean bullseye.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Alice is good. Though she sometimes has difficulty following directions, she is indubitably well-natured at heart. She would not wish harm on anyone, no matter what he/she has done, and is quick to forgive. But because of this kindness and her naivete, she is easy to manipulate as well. She does not completely understand the moral implications or repercussions actions can have, and can be led to do bad things if it is to "help out" a friend.
MutationsMutation description: Chlorine Gas Emission
Alice has the ability to exhale chlorine gas instead of the gases humans normally exhale (i.e. nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, etc.). Her body can convert those into the poisonous element, making her a danger to those standing in her vicinity. However, the chlorine gas she creates cannot sustain itself the way normal gas can. Past ten feet, the chlorine dissipates completely, along with its harmful effects. The longest she can produce and exhale the chlorine gas is two hours, but pushing to that maximum can take a large physical toll on her (see Weaknesses).
Chlorine gas, when inhaled, reacts with the water inside the human body, producing harmful, corrosive acids that damage human body cells. The most immediate effects of chlorine inhalation are coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, damage to the airways, skin and eye irritation, etc. Prolonged exposure may result in worsening symptoms and a pulmonary edema: the excess buildup of fluids in the lungs resulting in many serious respiratory problems.
As with all gaseous substances, the chlorine becomes weaker and less potent as it expands into the atmosphere, dampening its effects. The farther away someone is from her, the less they will be exposed to it. In an enclosed area with limited or no wind, someone standing roughly three to five feet away from her would smell the chlorine and feel its effects within fifteen to thirty seconds, while someone standing at her maximum range of ten feet would react within one minute.
In addition, the weather and location can affect the potency of the chlorine. For example, if there is a strong wind, the gas will expand faster and farther, weakening it significantly. At the same time, because chlorine gas is heavier than regular air, it will remain in low-lying locations for longer, increasing the chance of human exposure in those areas.
Strengths:- Immunity/Resistance: She is immune to the effects of chlorine, and as a result, her skin and lungs have a limited resistance to other poisonous gases/chemicals.
- Defense: If someone was threatening or harming her, she could simply respond by giving the assailant a nice breath of chlorinated air.
Weaknesses and Limitations:- Time Limit: The longest she can produce and exhale the chlorine is two hours, but reaching that maximum time would result in difficulty breathing, fatigue, migraines, etc.
- Distance Limit: The chlorine gas she produces breaks down and completely dissipates as it travels past ten feet. Anyone out of that ten-foot range would be unaffected by her mutation.
- Gas expansion: The gas becomes less potent and less powerful as it expands into the atmosphere and mixes with other atmospheric gases. It would be considerably weaker in the outdoors as opposed to in an enclosed space.
- Lack of control: Alice's emotional state is a large factor in her ability to control her mutation. Often, intense and stressful emotions such as fear or anger will cause her to lose control and activate her power, sometimes without her knowing, and her body may automatically activate her mutation as a defense mechanism if she is in danger. During these times of high stress, it is very difficult for her to stop the secretion of chlorine gas by will.
- A lot of unintentional poisoning. Whoops.
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: Alice is a weakling through and through. She is very lacking in the strength department. Surprisingly enough, she is a fast sprinter, but cannot maintain high levels of speed for long. She is flexible enough to put both of her feet behind her head. Otherwise, she is quite average in terms of other physical capabilities.
Fighting Style: “Why can’t we be friends?”
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros? Maybe the assailant/enemy/stranger just really needed a friend, and the lack of love in their life was the reason they were going around picking fights with young teenage girls in the first place.
Cons? ...They probably don’t want to be her friend. And she’ll probably get beat up.
History Of Your CharacterOn a chilly January morning, Alice Tyler was born to Gregory and Celia Tyler. Toby, her older brother of four years, was arguably the most excited to meet her. She grew up in a typical middle-class home in the busy city of San Francisco, learning street smarts from her brother and phonics from her ambitious mother. The only thing that set her apart was the fact that her father was an open mutant, a teleporter, something that was mostly accepted in liberal San Francisco. She spent much of her time following Toby around, but he never seemed to mind, or at least he did not show any outward annoyance. She often tried to emulate him and obviously looked up to him.
Her early life consisted of many play dates and piano lessons, copying her brother and learning to read at a more rapid pace than her peers. She was bright and cheerful and had many friends at her elementary school. Unfortunately, things took a sharp turn for the worst when she turned nine.
Toby, thirteen at the time, had just been going through his first adolescent growth spurt when it happened. He’d been sleeping, blissfully unaware of what was going on in his unconscious body, but that night, he went through growing pains of a completely new kind...the activation of his X-gene. Yes, Toby had inherited their father’s mutational gene but not the mutation itself. No, Toby was a fire elemental, one of a particularly destructive variety. That night, his entire room burned. It was only due to his father’s quick thinking and teleportation abilities that saved the family and their house.
It was tough on Alice’s mother. Celia had of course known that her husband was a mutant, and she loved him more for it, but she had never imagined that her son could be so destructive, even if it was unintentional. As someone who had little to no experience dealing with such issues, she was under much stress and felt very powerless. Sadly, that led to many heated arguments with Gregory, some so bad that their neighbors threatened to call the police unless the couple settled down. All of the fighting in the home scared and confused Alice, and while Toby shielded her the best he could, she still became very quiet and withdrawn during the period of chaos. She was not the friendly, outgoing young girl she used to be, and as a result, she became very out of sync with her social environment, something that would come back to bite her later.
Eventually, her parents decided enough was enough and got a divorce (and a messy one at that). Toby was sent to Xavier’s Sister School, and the separation caused Alice much grief. She had lost her guardian and role model, on top of making the painful decision of which parent she was going to live with (she eventually decided to stay with her mother), on top of everything else going horribly wrong in her life. Every time Toby came back to visit her, it seemed like he had changed. He was maturing into a young man the girl did not know, and gradually she found herself drifting apart from her brother and back into society.
Unfortunately, she had missed a lot of social development during her few years of self-imposed isolation, and the girls in middle school were not very kind to her and her absolute lack of awareness of social cues and proper etiquette. Very quickly she became dubbed the “weird girl,” and she was powerless to fight it.
When high school rolled around, things changed for the better. She went to a massive school where she could completely shed herself of her “weird” image and pursue bigger and brighter things with kinder, more interesting people. She joined the Jazz Band, went to football games, and made a bunch of new friends. By Homecoming season, it seemed she had adjusted well and was going to have a great year. But it seems for the Tyler family, nothing good ever lasts.
It had started off a completely normal Friday for Alice. She felt nor looked any outstanding, and her peers did not regard her any differently than usual. Halfway through the day, however, she began to feel ill, Her chest tightened and felt heavy, as if there were weights in her lungs. She began coughing and her breathing became labored. During fifth period, she was sent to the nurse, who gave her some cough drops and told her to return if she felt worse. In the middle of seventh, it seemed she could hardly breathe.
By eighth period, Alice blacked out. When she awoke, she was surrounded by nurses and doctors scurrying about in what appeared to be a bustling emergency room. Her mother was worriedly conversing with a doctor just outside of the teenager’s closed off area. There was an IV drip in her arm and a clamp on her index finger. But what surprised her the most was the fact that she felt fine. Absolutely healthy. Hadn’t she been coughing and feeling awful earlier? Why was she in a sealed area? She was surrounded by transparent walls in some kind of bubble, like the ones she saw in movies for people who had contracted contagious diseases. Was she carrying a deadly virus? What was going on? Her questions were answered by a doctor wearing a white hazmat suit.
“Miss Tyler, you are a mutant.”
Her body had begun to produce chlorine instead of carbon dioxide, and her “illness” had really been her body reacting and building up immunity to the poisonous element. For the moment, though, it seemed she had halted the process.
Needless to say, things got messy. Her father registered her at Xavier’s that very day, while her mother had difficulty even looking at her. Toby dropped everything and immediately drove over to support her. One week after the activation of her mutation, Alice Allegra Tyler found herself in her brother’s car, on the road to New York City.

Sample RP:The evening had begun disturbed.
Like many other nights in the household, the sun went down amidst cruel words and raised voices, glass bottles and blaring television volumes. The whimpers and silent sobs of a child and the shushing of her loving protector. There was no peace to accompany the ascending moon or the darkening twilight.
She hid in the shadows of her room, comforted by the muffling effect it seemed to place on her ears, shielding her somewhat from the eviscerating exchange happening right across the hall. She buried her damp cheeks into her knees, feeling the coolness of the bare skin against the overwhelming heat of her tears. She felt so weak against the forces of sound. Covering her ears did nothing, for the shrill voices were already imprinted in her mind, grating echoes resonating in her eardrums and torturing her even as the din outside died down. Their words did not die in the nine-year-old’s skull, though she desperately wished them to.
“This is all
your fault! You did this! You made him this way!”
“
Me?! How dare you point a finger at me! You knew exactly who I was when you married me!”
“I didn’t know you would infect our child as well!”
“Infect? What the hell is wrong with you? He’s not sick! He’s just a mutant!”
“He nearly burned down the house! You saw what he did to his room! ...Look, I love him, but he’s dangerous. He can’t stay here. Think of Alice, think of our home. There must be some way to fi--help him.” There was a long, weighted pause.
“...You’re right. His mutation is out of control.” A sigh. “I know a place, a school, that can help him. My friend's kid goes there, gets help. She's learning how to control her powers...it’s called Xavier’s.”
She felt her older brother’s heavy, warm arms settle around her shoulders, soothing whispers momentarily distracting her from the turmoil. She rested her head against his skinny shoulder and tried to halt her tears, feeling guilty for crying and allowing him to comfort her over his problem. She was not the protagonist of the evening, no. She was only a secondary character, and yet her brother, the true victim, was the one letting her snot all over his t-shirt. It wasn’t fair, and yet she petulantly remained in his embrace until she slowly stopped shaking, finally letting his comforting words overtake her and wash the hurt away.
“All better?” he asked, his hazel eyes gazing down at her dark brown ones.
“Yeah,” she managed, shifting into a cross-legged position. “But, Toby...what’s going to happen to you?”
“I’m...I’m going to get help. Don’t worry, Alice. Everything is going to be all right.”
