The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“Prepare yourself,” Hunter warned. Higher intensity pain made it clearer to see, so easier to work, but it also was more likely to render Kitra unconscious before he could finish. Drawing his fist back he punched the copy of Syn in the chest, shattering all its ribs.
He then grabbed the side of Kitra’s head and forced her to keep eye contact. The pain would have forced anyone to drop their head and clutch their shattered chest, so Hunter knew he had to keep the eye contact. He could see some of the tendrils flaring, and knew that those were the ones that needed to be severed. However, cutting them without touching the others would be difficult. Slowly he set about the intricate task.
Her entire chest was burning in pain. Her head would have dropped but Hunter had grabbed her face to keep the eye contact. Her body was shuddering and telling her to go unconscious. There was soo much pain, but in her mind she knew it wasn't hers. Her body didn't care though, it wanted it fixed, or just so her brain receptors couldn't feel the pain anymore. Her brain receptors?? That had to be it. Then she completly blacked out. It had been about 40 seconds or so since Hunter had broken all of Syn's copy's image.
Kitra’s mind darkened as she passed out. In that short space of time Hunter had managed to sever only two tendrils, and those were the least entangled. There were two dozen more that had flared when he shattered the copy, and knew that this was going to be a long and painful process for Kitra.
Sitting her back in the chair he waited for her to come back around. As he did so he pondered to see if there was a faster way to do it. The torture machine. That device kept you conscious while inflicting pain. Strap a copy into that and then Hunter could work freely. However, he was looking at about half and hours worth of work, that was mentally straining for him, let alone Kitra. Could she survive that?
Kitra came to slowly, "Ugh that hurt." She sat up and looked at Hunter, "Any progress at all?" She shuddered slightly as she thought of that last bit. The only good thing was that she didn't paas out right away." She tilted her head slightly, "It looks like you have something else in mind. What might it be?"
“I made some progress, but not much,” Hunter said, “and you’re right, I do have another idea. You are linked to your copy by several psychic tendrils. Only some of these tendrils transmit the copies pain to you. Through intense pain I can pick out which ones transmit pain and sever them.”
“I have severed two, there are twenty four left. There is a way to speed this up. I have a machine that can simulate pain without damage and without rendering you unconscious. However, it will take me about half an hour to break the rest of the tendrils. I don’t know if your mind can withstand the stress.”
'24?! Wow that's a lot. Could I handle something like that? Is it worth something like this? Why am I doubting myself!! I have to do this. Whatever it takes, I will do it.' Kitra looked up once more, her eyes full of determination, "Whatever it takes Hunter I'll do it." Her voice was a little shaky so she cleared her throat and tried again. "I won't be a liability to my teammates. Nor to my boss. Whatever it takes to get this under comtrol. I will do it." Kitra paused and looked at Hunter, "Um, will you be alright though?" Not trying to undermine the fact he was boss and all, er and a powerful mutant. But, ah, they all had their limits.
Hunter saw it, the flicker of doubt in her eyes. The questioning of her resolve, of her desire to do this. However, she quelled the doubt and agreed to continue. “While your concern is appreciated,” Hunter said with a smile, “Compared to what you will have to endure this is just a stroll in the park for me. I’ll be fine.”
Extending a hand to help Kitra up out of the chair Hunter led her through the maze of corridors towards the room in which the machine was housed. Leading them inside her motioned to the steel chair. “Have your copy sit in that and then take a seat here,” he said, pointing to a pair of far comfier chairs.
Kitra swallowed nervously as she followed Hunter throught the maze of corridors. This wasn't going to be easy. And that steel chair looks frightning, very frightning. She sat slowly in on of the comfy chairs and closed her eyes and concentrated on the image of Syn yet again. She was the least complicated, therefore easier to concentrate on. Syn appeared and walked over to the chair and sat down. Kitra was a little startled as the chair strapped Syn's copy in it. SHe gulped and spoke hastily befoe she changed her mind once more, "Let's began Hunter."
Hunter nodded and the switch was thrown. The pain was localised in the copy of Syn’s left leg. This time when he looked into Kitra’s mind he saw three of the tendrils clearer than all the others. The he realised, the tendrils were linked to different areas. He would have to progressively move the pain to find them all.
This was not good news for Kitra, as this would mean the machine targeting her torso and her head at some point. In the limbs was bad enough, but the head and torso were far worse. Rather than waste time he set about severing the tendrils.
The switch was was flicked on and the pain she felt in her left leg was terrible. Er, well it was Syn's copy's left leg. Ugh, her mind knew differently but her body didn't. Or was that backwards?? Why was it she was thinking so clearly, even through this pain? She really had no idea. Her body shuddered violently and her left leg was spasming. Her eyes remained locked with Hunter, she knew this needed to be done. Somehow anyway, it wasn't easy. The pain faded slightly, Hunter must have severed another tendril. Kitra hissed slightly through her teeth and shuddered again. She had to stay strong.
Hunter worked as fast as he could without risking damaging the tendrils needed to maintain and control the copy. Finally he severed the last one and released Kitra from his mesmerising gaze. The Machine was shut down to give Kitra a chance to recuperate.
It had taken five minutes to severer them all, as the last one had been especially tricky. Kitra had just had to endure five minutes with all the pain sensors in her left leg firing at once. The effect was quite liable to shatter someone’s mind, not even Calley had been hit for that long, though he had been hit everywhere at once. Kitra however had one advantage. Hunter had been using his abilities to help preserve Kitra’s sanity while severing the tendrils. While it would have done nothing to lessen the pain, it would have given her the resolve to hold on and see this through to the end.
Kitra let out a shuddering gasp when Hunter shut down the machine. The pain had completly stopped but her mind still remembered it. She really had no desire to go through it again. The pain that she had felt through her left leg was, excruicating. But, as it seemed to progress the pain lessened, that was because of Hunter she was sure. Kitra smiled weakly and looked up at Hunter, "This is only going to get worse isn't it?" She would continue, no backing out. No matter what happened, she would do her best.
Hunter nodded in answer to Kitra’s question. While he hid it completely, the combined effort of severing the tendrils and reinforcing Kitra’s mental resolve against the pain had been very taxing. However, he knew that the longer this was drawn out the worse it would be.
Taking a deep breath he nodded and her other leg was succumbed to the same treatment. At once he delved into the girls mind and set to work. the sooner he was finished the better, for both of them.
Kitra shuddered as Hunter started on the right leg this time. The pain was once again excruciating. It felt like all the nerves in that one leg were screaming as if they were on fire. She had no idea of time passing just trying not to lose herself in pain. Slowly she knew the pain would decrease. It wouldn't leave completly. She was still aware of what was happening it was becoming less of her pain and more of the copy's pain.
Hunter kept working diligently to sever the tendrils while bolstering Kitra’s mental resolve to help her endure the pain. finally finishing he released his psychic hold on her and the machine was deactivated.
Sweat beaded on his fore head from the mental effort, but he knew Kitra was in a far worse state. Still, her legs were done, next he would do her arms. He would not try to do either her torso or her head today. Not only was he lacking in the mental strength to pull it off, but also Kitra could not endure the pain that would come with it.
