The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jesse could tell Becca was curious. She did not know exactly how much her wife had shared with her doppelganger about their past adventures, but from the look on Becca's face she either did not know much, or she was just really desperate for a change of topic. Probably both.
>>”Yer tellin’ me this aw started coz ye were runnin’ aroond as a criminal? And that led tae…”
"... that led to us banging on some rich guy's office desk instead of me robbing him." Jesse finished the sentence with a deadpan expression. That was really the gist of it.
>>”Nae, ye know whit? Nae need tae recollect. It’s tois very different situations. We’re aw different people. Thocht yes, they ur charming. Apparently, Ah find charming hot. But that’s whaur th’ comparisons here end. This is jist fun,”
"I never doubted that it was fun." Jesse grinned as Becca backpedaled far away from comparisons. She clearly had some kind of a fun arrangement going with Mirror; they had chemistry, that much was obvious. Jesse was just curious to see if other copies of themselves would get away with another kind of life.
"So, how long... have you been having fun? Is it a... recreational arrangement thing, or more like a... heat of the moment thing?"

Jesse was a great many things. Shy was not one of those things. Rebecca a door open with her curiosity about Jesse and Rebecca’s “courtship,” and the mirrorwalker shared in no uncertain terms how a vigilante and a thief gave into overwhelming sexual tension.
On an office desk.
That little detail sent a shudder down Rebecca’s spine because it felt too in line with her own experiences. She tried to shake things off and defend her arrangement with Gawain and Maya as uncomplicated, uncommitted fun that was totally different than their married counterparts, but she suddenly felt far less confident.
Despite Becca’s defensiveness, Jesse was having fun probing the redhead for more information, which was not something Becca was expecting to deal with when she arrived at the Hospital for the day. She shoved Pad Thai noodles into her mouth to buy herself some time as she contemplated Jesse’s question. She wanted to say things started in the heat of the moment, but the moment had long since passed when Becca rekindled the embers.
Sighing, Becca tried to present the truth in a way that would not lead to more questions. ”It’s been a month ur tois. Jist a… friendly arrangement. We hae chemistry an’ neither ay us is tied doon at th’ moment,” she started before recognizing her word choice and adding, ”emotionally.”
Dabbing at the corners of her mouth with a napkin, words continued to slip out of Becca’s mouth. ”It was gonna be a ain time thing at first, jist blowing aff steam efter a mission. Lang day, office tae ourselves, an’ a desk fer the… using.” Right, the desk. Why, oh why, did she feel the need to mention that? Rebecca shoved a bite spring roll in her mouth to shut herself up. When she came up for air, she bashfully added, ”And, ye know, we jist decided there was nae reason tae stop.”
>> ”It’s been a month ur tois. Jist a… friendly arrangement. We hae chemistry an’ neither ay us is tied doon at th’ moment... emotionally.”
"Uh-huh." Jesse nodded sagely. Chemistry, she could believe that part. The two crazy kids were on an X-team, and things like that were bound to get the adrenaline going. If they got along well enough, a spark was only a matter of time and opportunity.
>>”It was gonna be a ain time thing at first, jist blowing aff steam efter a mission. Lang day, office tae ourselves, an’ a desk fer the… using... And, ye know, we jist decided there was nae reason tae stop.”
Jesse grinned a wide grin at the mention of the office desk. Maybe these two were not as different as Becca wanted them to be. And if they decided to make it a regular thing, maybe there really was something to grin about.
"Desk huh. Some things are just fixed points in time." she chuckled. "So, your... Mirror, they only do the two versions, right? GuyMirror and GalMirror? How's that working out for ya?"

Rebecca defended herself and made it clear that her arrangement with Mirror was nothing serious, though she was not sure Jesse was buying the story. They both recognized the similarities between her present and Jesse’s past. The difference was, one of them was consciously ignoring them as pure coincidence.
To her credit, Jesse dropped the subject. For the moment, at least. She was willing to just take part in some classic girl talk and Rebecca was happy to oblige. How did she like her new partner’s unique gender situation? ”Honestly? It’s fantastic. Sae guid,” she admitted with a hint of satisfaction in her voice. ”Ah’m bi an’ Ah’ve knoon that since th’ first time Gawain an’ Ah hooked up—an’ yes, thes isnae th’ first time, but ‘at means naething,” she added hastily. Her and Gawain having history did not change what was between them now.
”Ah can date ain gender an’ be happy. Ah’ve dain it twice. But Ah'll admit, it's kin' ay fin tae hae tois... very fin experiences wrapped up in ain person.” Some nights, Rebecca would intentionally drag things out in hopes of delaying them until midnight. She was not hooking up with Mirror because of her mutation, but it was an admittedly nice perk.
Jesse was wondering just exactly how far the 'just for fun' extended in Other Becca and Mirror's relationship. Dating a shifter definitely had its perks, even if said shifter only had two settings, guy and girl, instead of the endless range of possibilities Jesse's own powers allowed. But also, one would not know if the redhead actually liked both, or preferred one to the other. Her own Becca had not known it either before they started... dating.
>>”Honestly? It’s fantastic. Sae guid. Ah’m bi an’ Ah’ve knoon that since th’ first time Gawain an’ Ah hooked up—an’ yes, thes isnae th’ first time, but ‘at means naething,”
Jesse arched an eyebrow again. Not even the first time. They seemed to be running the same rounds without making much of it. Interesting. But at least Becca was admittedly bi, which made the gender switching a lot less awkward.
>>”Ah can date ain gender an’ be happy. Ah’ve dain it twice. But Ah'll admit, it's kin' ay fin tae hae tois... very fin experiences wrapped up in ain person.”
"Well, you and my wife have more in common than I thought" Jesse grinned "I mean, with my shifting, I am pretty much an open menu for her. And believe me, she takes advantage of that any way she can..."

Jesse wisely held her tongue about Becca and Gawain’s past history. When the two first slept together, it was mostly experimental. They were both out of relationships and needed something fun and uncomplicated. So yes, there were similarities between the past and present, but that just meant they had chemistry and no reason not to indulge in that. They were friends who cared about one another and knew their way around a bed. Desk. Jet. Nate’s art supply closet that one time.
It was undeniably convenient not just for Becca but for Mirror that the redhead was bisexual. From what she understood, Mirror had dated gay girls in the past and ran into issues every other day. It had to be convenient knowing Gawain or Maya could give Becca a ring and she would respond with the same enthusiasm.
While she had her own luck in finding a diverse bedmate, her counterpart found an embarrassment of riches in Jesse. It was… something Becca did not often think about. ”Open menu…” she repeated, her voice trailing off as she contemplated how delicious that could really be.
Aaaand time to snap out of that! ”Um, ye know, soonds loch a fun time. Ah bet yer a guid swiss-army-spouse.” Good for Rebecca! Except, of course, for the whole mirror imprisonment thing.
Becca was pretty sure sex talk with the doppelganger of her… totally uncommitted friend with benefits… might be dangerous ground to tread, so she subtly tried to switch the subject back to Jesse’s past. ”Sae ye were a thief. Hoo exactly did ye decide tae switch career paths? Ur was sex wi’ Rebecca too guid tae pass up?” she asked jokingly, before reminding herself that she had put a moratorium on sex talk all of seven seconds earlier.
Jesse could tell that Becca had the imagination (an scientific curiosity) required of someone who really wanted to take advantage of dating... er, being friends with a gender shifter. She was definitely intrigued by the shifting part. Jesse smirked; sometimes the young redhead really reminded her of her wife. It was a comforting thought that they got together in more universes than just one.
>>”Open menu… Um, ye know, soonds loch a fun time. Ah bet yer a guid swiss-army-spouse.”
Jesse snorted at the comment. "I'll have to remember that." Her Becca would adopt that term without thinking. Go figure.
>>”Sae ye were a thief. Hoo exactly did ye decide tae switch career paths? Ur was sex wi’ Rebecca too guid tae pass up?”
"I was a classy art thief" Jesse specified with a grin, settling in for the story "And... yeah, essentially. I mean, I guess I always wanted to do something more useful than robbing rich people for cash... not that it was a bad gig... but Becca was the one that tipped the scales. Not with... okay, not just with the sex. She also had... the kind of drive to change things that you want to follow."

Becca enjoyed Mirror just the way they were, but she had to entertain the intriguing fantasy of a partner who could alter their appearance in any way imaginable. Who needed a type when your wife or husband could literally tailor the experience with a flavor of the week? Or night? Or hour even? Maybe there was a little more reason to envy Rebecca than her loving family and mature, responsible personality.
Taking her head out of the gutter for what felt like the fourth time in their conversation, Becca returned to the conversation at hand. Jesse defended herself, clarifying that she was a classy art thief, which was familiar and amusing. ”Ye know, Ah think Ah hae a coworker at th’ school who says th’ same thing.” Of course, Nate did not change his thieving ways to chase a woman into vigilantism, but she still found it amusing how she somehow surrounded herself with multiple redeemed art thieves.
Jesse had the capacity to do better, but it was Rebecca that pushed him over that edge with a combination of sex and inspiration. Becca admired her doppelganger’s drive and passion. The AV!X-Men had so many struggles to overcome and, as far as she could tell, Rebecca was the glue keeping the team from falling apart. ”Ah can see it. She’s something. Ah hope Ah can live up tae ‘at, honestly.” Amidst an almost silly conversation, it was an unexpectedly genuine admission. Impact had a head start on Becca and, despite and maybe because of all the obstacles in her life, she had become an awe-inspiring person. It made Becca wonder if she had the potential to be a less-scary version of Impact one day.
”Honestly… I kinda get it. Mirror is nae changing mah life ur naething, but gang on missions wi’ them is different. They ur sae pure heroic, they micht as well be an archetype.” The hero, the knight, the swashbuckler; Mirror took all these overarching identities and became something even more impressive. ”Th’ sex an’ the banter ur guid, but Ah really think they push me. Ah’m better it thaur fightin’ wi’ Gawain ur Maya.” Their relationship was multifaceted; Mirror was Becca’s friend, teammate, and lover, and in some ways, Mirror might have made her better in all those facets.
>>”Ye know, Ah think Ah hae a coworker at th’ school who says th’ same thing.”
"Well maybe they are my coworker too" Jesse grinned. She was not ashamed of her past, even if she was not committing art thievery anymore. It was good to know there were other reformed thieves around the X-team. It made sense. They were not usually evil or violent, and they tended to have very useful skills... And they just needed a Becca to recruit them.
>>”Ah can see it. She’s something. Ah hope Ah can live up tae ‘at, honestly.”
"I think you already do" Jesse smiled. This version of Becca was younger, but just as determined. She would make a good leader for her team one day, if she wanted to.
>>”Honestly… I kinda get it. Mirror is nae changing mah life ur naething, but gang on missions wi’ them is different. They ur sae pure heroic, they micht as well be an archetype. Th’ sex an’ the banter ur guid, but Ah really think they push me. Ah’m better it thaur fightin’ wi’ Gawain ur Maya.”
"Wow" Jesse blinked "You really got the friends part down don't you." Most of the time, when people said things like no strings attached, and friends with benefits, what they really meant was they had good sexual chemistry but would have been a disaster when dating. Not this Becca, though. She genuinely seemed to have a soft spot for the doppelganger.
"So... if all that clicks, why not just bite the bullet and date them?"

Becca was not going to toss around Nate’s name, though she was curious about his doppelganger just like she was with everyone else’s. Two universes created near limitless possibilities, so the odds of Nate’s copy even being in New York felt slim since he was a Carolina boy. He was open about his past, but it still felt like it was not Becca’s place to gossip about his past.
It appeared that Becca’s honesty talking about Mirror took Jesse by momentary surprise. She found herself suddenly defensive. ”Ay coorse. We’re friends first. Mirror isnae saim random screw.” Just because their sexual chemistry was good—okay, great—it did not change that the two X-Men were more than just acquaintances that shared a bed.
Of course, she had to expect the next question. If they clicked on so many levels, why not date? Becca had thought about it before and she thought about it a lot. Maybe at a different point in her life, it was something she would really consider.
Unfortunately, Becca was aware of the reason; her reason, at least. ”Cos… Ah dinnae think Ah shoods be wi’ anyain loch that. Ah’m tay guid at hurting people, an’ Ah dinnae want tae dae that again. Especially wi’ Mirror.”
Becca looked back down at her lunch, which at that point was half-eaten. She had eaten enough to quell her hunger and, honestly, it looked suddenly less appetizing. ”Ah shoods probably gie back tae lookin’ o’er police reports…” she muttered.
