The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When Rebecca moved to New York, she never anticipated that her life would one day regularly include an interdimensional commute. She also had not anticipated becoming a superhero, finding out she was bi, or falling in love with Thai food, so maybe it was time to accept that anything could and would happen in the nexus of weird that was New York City.
Trips to The AV were not a daily part of Rebecca’s life, but she was visiting regularly enough to know her way around streets with different names. Crime was harder to keep track of when it could span two worlds, so it benefited both X-Men teams to trade notes and coordinate their efforts when necessary. Outside of traditional crime, they were still researching potential connections to SUPER. Escapee testimonials, (Rare,) defectors, (Rarer,) and any paper trail of official SUPER activities, (Likely a myth.) If they were really a government organization, they knew how to cover their tracks, and there was no such thing as an effective trackless tracking method.
The morning had been spent pouring over old records of mutant-related crimes in an effort to draw comparisons to recent crimes and attacks in the MROverse. The Rip was appealing for opportunistic criminals who were being watched or tracked too closely on their own side of the fence. The more the two sides could cooperate, the more of a leg up they had on the developing crime scene.
Work and research required sustenance to serve as fuel, so Rebecca was returning to the hospital with a huge paper bag in one hand and a large bubble tea in the other. Delivery would have required a trip down the elevator regardless since the AV X-Men had to fly under the radar, so the redhead chose to walk to a nearby Thai place one of the nurses recommended.
Finally back in the X-Base atop the Hospital, Rebecca walked into Impact’s office, only to be surprised to find it empty. Rebecca could have sworn the X-Leader had been working at her desk when she left. With a shrug, she assumed something came up and dismissed her curiosity, which was outmatched by her hunger. The younger redhead took a seat at her doppelganger’s desk since it was free and she wanted her lunch break to be a small reprieve from the paperwork and files in the surveillance room.
Sinking into the office chair amidst the room filled with mirrors, Rebecca pulled her Pad and spring rolls from the bag and could feel herself start salivating. ”Och, Ah need ye in mah tummy ten minutes ago,” she mumbled to her food, digging around for a pair of chopsticks so she could get down to business.
The X-men had been working intensely since the mission a the SUPER facility. Tracking down every clue, every intel, every flimsy chance at finding something useful against the evil giant they were threatening them - and not just them, but also the mutants of the other side now. After their meeting with their doppelgangers, which was beyond lucky (and yielded some very unexpected consequences), Becca and Jesse had been regularly trading intel with the other side's X-team. They could not trust many people, but at least they could trust themselves.
Becca had recently decided to take a break. Decided in this case meant that Jesse pestered her until she agreed to go and take a nap, for the sake of the human being she was growing in her own body. Jesse was proud of the accomplishment, and promised to man (or, in this case, woman) the office while her wife slept.
When Other Becca showed up, Jesse thought for a moment that her wife was breaking her promise; but a split second later it became clear that the redhead with the takeout was not the person she'd expected. Other Becca obviously did not notice the woman in the mirror, being too preoccupied with the food as she settled at her doppelganger's desk.
>>”Och, Ah need ye in mah tummy ten minutes ago,”
"Careful" Jesse grinned, leaning her shoulder against the frame of a mirror facing the desk "You talk to that spring roll like that, it might form an emotional attachment and get clingy..."

Becca was ready to dig into her Pad Thai, pulling a pair of chopsticks out of a paper sleeve and taking in the peanut-heavy scent of her noodles. She was so engrossed by her food, she failed to spot the face of an attractive woman in a nearby mirror until she was being called out by a teasing voice.
”Eep!” she squeaked in surprise before she realized Jesse was the other person in the room. Turning to face her doppelganger’s wife/spouse, Rebecca chuckled. ”Th’ sprin' roll shoods know better. If Ah maunt tae emotionally commit tae it, Ah wooldnae hae booght th' Pad Thai, tay.” Far be it for Rebecca to be a one-treat woman, after all.
Turning back to the desk, hoping Jesse jumped into one of the smaller mirrors sitting atop the surface. ”Nice tae see ye, Jesse. Is Rebecca it oan a lunch run ay her own?”
Becca jumped and made a very satisfying squeaky noise of surprise. Jesse laughed as she moved over to stand in a smaller frame that her wife had set up on the desk for conversations.
>>”Th’ sprin' roll shoods know better. If Ah maunt tae emotionally commit tae it, Ah wooldnae hae booght th' Pad Thai, tay.”
"Fair point. Gotta keep your options open." Jesse grinned. Becca was much like her Becca, but also different in some ways; one seemed to be that she was not really committed to anyone at the moment. Except for Pad Thai. She really seemed committed to that one. Jesse sighed. She really missed food sometimes.
>>”Nice tae see ye, Jesse. Is Rebecca it oan a lunch run ay her own?”
"Nah" Jesse shook her head "I sent her home for a nap. She should not be running around all day, with... um." Jesse realized that they had never actually, officially broken the news of the baby to their other-world alter-egos. They talked about it, and decided to do it a while ago, they just... never got around to it. And then they figured when Becca started showing, they would notice anyway. "She's still not quite over the morning sickness yet."

Despite the initial shock of a mirrordweller sneaking up on her, Rebecca was happy for the new company. Jesse and Mirror were different people, but Rebecca still liked the shapeshifter her doppelganger decided to marry. She was fun and witty, in the smartass kind of way Rebecca enjoyed engaging with. Even if Jesse could not join her in eating lunch, having her around would be much nicer than sitting around in an empty office.
There were more jokes and quips to be made about Rebecca’s free love philosophy toward food, but she wanted to be respectful. Jesse could joke with the best of them, but the truth was, she was still stuck in the mirrors. Impact could take conjugal visits, but there were some things Jesse was going to miss out on. If she could not eat food, Rebecca did not want to make a big deal about her Pad Thai, no matter how mouthwatering it was. ”Ah’m yoong. Plenty ay time tae settle doon oan a meal,” she finished, shoveling a swirl of noodles, bean sprouts, and chicken in her mouth as Jesse explained away Impact’s absence with morning sickness. Valid excuse.
It took a second before the actual meaning of those words hit her and promptly caused her to choke on her Pad Thai.
Trying to speak through the tail end of her coughing fit, she replied, ”Wanna rin 'at by me again?”
Jese was generally a good person, and had left her roguish ways behind a long time ago... but that did not mean she did not enjoy delivering the news to Becca somewhat. Maybe she was less of a good person than she'd thought. The look on Becca's face was pretty priceless, although for a moment Jesse worried she might choke on her Thai food.
>>”Wanna rin 'at by me again?”
"Well, um..." Jesse smirked sheepishly, waiting for Becca to catch her breath "I know it's probably strange, hearing it like this, but... yeah, Becca's pregnant." Jesse could not really keep the happiness and excitement off her face. She really was close to beaming about it. The baby was a surprise she had given up on a long time ago, and now that it was a reality, Jesse was very, very happy about it.

There were many ways to give someone a piece of big news, and the way Jesse decided to do it was how a jerk would go about it. As she choked on her noodles, Rebecca felt less guilty about eating in front of Jesse, who feasted on her awkwardness and her shock.
She was definitely shocked. It was a good feeling, but an unexpected one. Jesse confirmed the story: her Rebecca was pregnant. Becca’s eyes lit up and she put down her chopsticks so she could cover her mouth with both hands to muffle her high-pitched squee. ”Jesse, tha’s fantastic! Congratulations! Mah word, ye tois ur gonna hae a wee baby! Astrid’s gonna gie a sister!” It was thrilling to see Rebecca and Jesse’s family continue to grow, defying all the odds.
The excitement was still real, but the longer it lasted, the more Rebecca’s mind really assessed what was happening. ”Woah. There’s a universe where Gawain an’ Ah hae a baby.” The realization was sobering considering the pair’s recent activities. A silent prayer went out to MRO!Becca’s birth control; the real MVP. ”Ah mean. Wow. Crazy…”
Jesse smiled as she repeated the news, a little clearer this time. It was fun to say, and definitely fun to share with someone that she considered a friend. Sheer luck there, having doppelgangers that actually liked them enough to be friends, rather than some messed up evil twin type situation. Once she got over the shock, and coughed up the Pad Thai, Becca seemed equally excited about the news.
>>”Jesse, tha’s fantastic! Congratulations! Mah word, ye tois ur gonna hae a wee baby! Astrid’s gonna gie a sister!”
"She is" Jesse smiled. The idea of a baby scared her, but she was willing to face down the scary part. "It was, um... definitely a surprise, but we are all happy with it."
>>”Woah. There’s a universe where Gawain an’ Ah hae a baby. Ah mean. Wow. Crazy…”
"Yeah. I know, right?" Jesse chuckled, leaning against the frame of the mirror "I mean, to me, it's crazy that Becca and I are not married in your world" she grinned "But at least you two get along well, huh."

It was exciting to hear Jesse and Rebecca’s good news, but it was also surreal. There was no way to compare the feeling to anything else. It was more familiar than a friend getting pregnant, and while Becca was an only child, she imagined it might be similar to celebrating a sibling’s good fortune. Even then, there was always going to be the mindblowing realization that, in some way, she was watching herself having a baby.
Jesse was quick to remind Rebecca that she was not the only one dealing with doppelgangers. The very existence of herself and Gawain/Maya was hard for Jesse to wrap her mind around. They definitely were not married, but it was the last comment that caught Becca off guard. They got along. That was very true. Suddenly feeling like Jesse might have known something, Becca accidentally overcompensated. ”Och, ay coorse. We definitely gie alang. We're friends. Wa wooldnae we gie alang? They're great. Guid, great friend.”
Becca's reaction to an innocent comment was more than spectacular. She overcorrected so much that even Jesse noticed.
>>”Och, ay coorse. We definitely gie alang. We're friends. Wa wooldnae we gie alang? They're great. Guid, great friend.”
The mirrorwalker arched an eyebrow at her not-wife. Sure, the two Beccas were different in many ways, but at the end of the day, Jesse knew at least one of them very well, and was casual friends with the other. And she could tell when this one was trying to hide something and failing at it miserably.
"Ooh, come on. Try again." she grinned, tilting her head "What's going on? Did I hit on something here, or what?"
What on earth was going on between the doppelgangers? What kind of a secret alternate life were they living?...

Becca wanted to blame Jesse’s arching eyebrow on the mirrorwalker’s understanding of Becca based on their friendship and the similarities she shared with her wife. Truthfully, Becca was just showcasing how poorly she hid a secret about herself. Not that she and Mirror were a secret; they were adults who had every right to enjoy a friendship with a few added benefits.
It just felt weird sharing that news with the future mother of her doppelganger’s child.
Everything from Jesse’s expression to her tone screamed suspicion, and Becca was trying to decide how well she could sidestep the truth. ”There’s naething gang on. Things ur jist normal an’ Mirror is a great friend. Loch Ah said, we gie alang. And there’s naething weird abit two guid friends who gie alang. Ah mean, we’re consenting adults.”
Okay, that last addition slipped out. Something about the way Jesse looked at her robbed her of her discretion. She stumbled into an, ”Ah mean…” that trailed off, but her face was already pinkening. It was like her mind, her mouth, and her body were all seeking to betray her.
Oh, something was definitely up. Jesse watched with amusement as Becca tried to explain her way out of it. The whole thing would have been a throwaway comment and a non-issue, but now that she had run into this reaction, Jesse's curiosity was piqued. She needed to know exactly how close the lives of their doppelgangers were to theirs.
>>”There’s naething gang on. Things ur jist normal an’ Mirror is a great friend. Loch Ah said, we gie alang. And there’s naething weird abit two guid friends who gie alang. Ah mean, we’re consenting adults.”
Consenting adults.
Jesse grinned.
>>”Ah mean…”
"Oh my god" Jesse grinned in triumph "You're banging my doppelganger, aren't you."
That really was the only explanation. Besides, Jesse in any form was still Jesse. No one could be expected to resist that...

Rebecca was glad she had thought to put down her chopsticks, because if she was trying to eat anything when Jesse made her accusation, she was going to choke until she died of either embarrassment or a blocked windpipe. Thanks to Rebecca’s sheer inability to avoid acting transparently, the shapeshifter picked apart exactly what she was hiding.
And she called Rebecca out hard and in no uncertain terms. Her mouth hung ajar as she tried to think of an appropriate answer. A lie seemed like such a last-ditch effort when she had been so clearly busted. She started and stopped when a few explanations came to mind, but none amounted to a real word.
All Rebecca could do was stick to what she knew: that she and Gawain/Maya were doing nothing wrong. ”It’s nae a big deal, Jesse,” she mumbled, picking up a spring roll. ”jist tois friends haeing fun. Nae reason tae get weird abit it,” said the girl who was most definitely acting weird about it.
Well, Becca was thoroughly embarrassed now. If her own Becca had been around, she probably would have sternly reprimanded Jesse about treating the guest that way, and making her feel awkward about her choices of... whatever she was doing with Mirror as her partner. But Becca was not around, due to being pregnant as hell, and this was too much fun to quit now.
>>”It’s nae a big deal, Jesse, jist tois friends haeing fun. Nae reason tae get weird abit it,
"Oh it's not weird at all. I think it's funny" Jesse kept grinning, now that her guess had been confirmed "I mean, I can't blame you, Mirror's got less versatility, but they've still got the charm." she chuckled "And I can believe it's a whole lot of fun. I still remember Becca chasing me around for theft, thinking she was gonna turn em over to the police or something..."

Jesse was enjoying the big reveal in Becca’s sex life a little too much, to the ire of the redhead. It was all harmless teasing, she had a feeling it would not end there. Jesse and Mirror were doubles and Jesse loved Rebecca’s double, so comparisons were going to be unavoidable now that the truth was out in the open.
Sure enough, Jesse was quick to reminisce about her earliest encounters with Impact. It piqued Becca’s interest because she never took the time to question exactly how the doppelgangers met. They were X-Men who were married, so she assumed they met on the team. Apparently, that was only half the truth. ”Yer tellin’ me this aw started coz ye were runnin’ aroond as a criminal? And that led tae…” It led to fun. From how Jesse made things sound, it was a very familiar kind of fun.
Rebecca quickly dismissed the thought. ”Nae, ye know whit? Nae need tae recollect. It’s tois very different situations. We’re aw different people,” she defended, before begrudgingly adding, ”Thocht yes, they ur charming. Apparently, Ah find charming hot. But that’s whaur th’ comparisons here end. This is jist fun,” she said, not at all defensively.
