The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She was kinda curious about her other universe self. Was her life bad? Was it better? Was it a replica of her own life? Celest wasn't even sure if she'd ever want to meet her doppelganger. It seemed freaky to know that there was someone else on the other side of the rip.
>>“It’s certainly a warning, a lesson in what might have been or still could be,”
She nodded, a very perplexed yet serious look. They had META bots, which was freaky. Of course, that didn't seem to be the majority of places though. She only knew of them in New York City, which was kind of ironic considering it was a bastion of progressivism.
>> “And you’re thinking like a politician, albeit one who actually cares. Not all do. Some just dodge questions. But you can’t apply broad answers or solutions to the world so you certainly can’t to questions like these.
She turned a little red at the compliment. She wasn't sure what she wanted to be - should she be a politician? Would she even be a good one? Half of the country would hate her. Probably, anyways. Of course... That half probably already hated her, anyways, so what was the point? How did one even become a politician, though? She wasn't even sure where to begin. Political science major? The idea of herself being in a powerful position nearly made her chuckle. Maybe he had a point, though. Maybe she could do it? She decided on a joke, though, "Well, I probably won't do too good if I actually care." She was clearly joking.
>> “As for telling the difference between individuals, we may need a scientific way to check. Maybe vibration of cells or something,” he shrugged. “I’m no biologist, though I know a few. Perhaps there’s something in our licenses we can tell the difference between United States. Terrorism is certainly a concern for both countries, and the other America seems to have been far more militantly opposed to mutants. I’m not sure how safe it really is to visit there.”
She nodded. Vibration of cells would be a pretty good way to do it. "When someone crosses, do they mark it on their passports or something? Isn't there a pretty formal process to entering and leaving?" She hadn't heard of the exact method that was used currently by the governments of their world and the other universe, but she presumed it was similar to crossing a border. She had heard that the other-verse was pretty hostile to mutants. No X-Men. Of course, she read most of this online and it was pretty hard to decipher what was true and what was not. It looked like her fears about the other verse was confirmed, though. "Yeah... I read on several sites online that it isn't a good place. I'm on several activist groups, too, and they all said it was pretty bad what had happened there but no one seemed to know the details."
Devon walked with careful regard of his surroundings and of Celeste’s facial expressions. It was clear she was thinking about their conversation. Her concern over the META bots reminded him of what others likely thought of NYC or American when coming to visit. Violence was a problem.
>> "Well, I probably won't do too good if I actually care."
Devon laughed in response and nodded. “Clearly a problem,” he said while still chuckling.
>> "When someone crosses, do they mark it on their passports or something? Isn't there a pretty formal process to entering and leaving?"
“It is being tracked, though I’m not sure if they actually track it on your passport. That’s smart though, treat it like any other foreign travel entrance,” he nodded.
>> "Yeah... I read on several sites online that it isn't a good place. I'm on several activist groups, too, and they all said it was pretty bad what had happened there but no one seemed to know the details."
Devon frowned, “I imagine they think similarly of what’s happened here. The mutant concentration camps abroad, the attack at Odessa, the META bot bugs… Mutants don’t live openly there. It’s treated shamefully it seems. That’s why I am concerned about those seeking refuge and shelter.”
There seemed to be some unique issues facing New York City alone, such as META bots, that other places weren't facing. Of course, NYC was kind of the cultural hub of mutants. And humans. And culture in general, at least in the United States. It was a huge melting pot with millions upon millions of people. It wasn't too surprising that they'd have some different circumstances. She couldn't imagine Canada, at least with its current political atmosphere, instituting META bots. She could be wrong, but it seemed pretty out there.
She gave him a grin as he jokingly agreed with her.
>>“It is being tracked, though I’m not sure if they actually track it on your passport. That’s smart though, treat it like any other foreign travel entrance,”
She nodded, "I would hope so, at least. I mean, what if my alteroverse was some crazy maniac? Wouldn't be cool if she came in and started harassing everyone." She shrugged, maybe she didn't have an doppelganger from the other side. Maybe it was only her? Probably wishful thinking.
>>“I imagine they think similarly of what’s happened here. The mutant concentration camps abroad, the attack at Odessa, the META bot bugs… Mutants don’t live openly there. It’s treated shamefully it seems. That’s why I am concerned about those seeking refuge and shelter.”
She nodded and gave a frown, "Fair enough. Either way, it's hard enough, at least right now, to get refugees into the U.S. from our timeline, let alone a different one." She sighed, the world was one screwed up place. "I wonder what'll happen if it closes. Big reason why I'll never actually go over there, actually. What if you're on the other side and it suddenly closes? That would be pretty horrifying."
>> "I would hope so, at least. I mean, what if my alteroverse was some crazy maniac? Wouldn't be cool if she came in and started harassing everyone."
Devon laughed, “Been there, done that. My doppleganger is a bit of sociopath.” Thankfully the conversation went on as they took another bend in the path, opening up through the few trees to another seatable area. Here during the day men and women sat playing games or reading the newspaper. Right now, only shadows of some students planning the evening’s events hoverd nearby.
>> "I wonder what'll happen if it closes. Big reason why I'll never actually go over there, actually. What if you're on the other side and it suddenly closes? That would be pretty horrifying."
“A good question indeed, a risk anyone crossing is accepting. I doubt anyone’s prepared for how to re-open a rift except maybe whoever is at fault for it in the first place,” Devon remarked with a deepening tone. “That’s what I’d like to know and I’m sure many others. It could be something or someone on our side, or something on theirs. Considering the temporal and weather fluctuations beforehand, it was building for some time.
“I doubt it was one mutant alone, and I question if government research wasn’t behind it.”
She shook her head, that was... Kind of terrifying, though. Once around the bend in the path, Celeste took a moment to enjoy the view - a few students planning evening festivities and that was about it. It looked like a nice place to have lunch though. Once she was officially going to class here, she would definitely have to have lunch here. Maybe even have some friends.
She nodded, "I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to open a rip in the space-time continuum a second time, honestly." Even if it meant some people getting trapped on the other side, there had to be some type of lasting damage for two parallel worlds to be ripped open into each other. No one knew the consequences were right now, after all. Congress didn't have enough time to really react in either worlds and other countries were either really interested or practically ignoring the implications. Or at least, that's what she was getting from the different narratives.
Not to mention, what if it somehow destabilized their two dimensions? What if their entire worlds end up getting ripped up together completely? Maybe that's not what would happen but it frightened Celeste a little to think about.
She paused for a moment, "If there was government research involved, then the next big question is on which side? Ours or theirs? I don't think opening a hole in time is a good enough reason for any type of experiment like this. Do you think it was mutants, though?" She wasn't sure how it happened, exactly - she just knew what it was and how it going on right now.
>> "I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to open a rip in the space-time continuum a second time, honestly."
Devon nodded. “I doubt it was the first time. There’s sure to be ramifications for years to come,” he noted, a bit grave. “However, we’re trying to manage and I’m sure the governments on both sides are doing their best with that. Hopefully not are getting too opportunistic. There’s a certain amount of scientific amazement to all this after all. We should focus on that.”
>> "If there was government research involved, then the next big question is on which side? Ours or theirs? I don't think opening a hole in time is a good enough reason for any type of experiment like this. Do you think it was mutants, though?"
“I do,” Devon nodded again as they neared their starting point. “That’ll likely take some time to discover, who knows if it was on purpose or on accident. Sometimes people don’t quite understand what they’re doing. It’s possible it was some young teenager’s powers first developing after all. So it’ll be important we help them if that’s true.”
He smiled gently, “It’s been a good walk. You’ve got some opinions I’m pleased to see in the new class coming in.”
>> “However, we’re trying to manage and I’m sure the governments on both sides are doing their best with that. Hopefully not are getting too opportunistic. There’s a certain amount of scientific amazement to all this after all. We should focus on that.”
Celeste nodded but was not very optimistic. She really enjoyed politics but she was not someone who believed they had best intentions or were not going to get opportunistic about it. It was a scientific amazement, that was for sure.

She saw that there walk was coming to an end and it was bittersweet. They were having an amazing talk but it was almost time to go. She nodded, "That makes sense. We may never find out."
>> “It’s been a good walk. You’ve got some opinions I’m pleased to see in the new class coming in.”
Once they were back at the spot, Celeste sighed contently. She blushed at his compliment, "Well, thanks. I'm glad you think so!" She checked her watch and realized she needed to leave soon. She gave him a smile, "Thank you so, so much for taking the time to speak with me. It is really awesome that you did this." She hesitated for a moment before giving him a quick, friendly hug. "Maybe I'll see you giving another speech, soon!"
