The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kendra stood there a moment watching everything unfold. She couldn't see much of anything aside from the soldiers scouring the clearing. Suddenly a radiant light appeared. It was bright, almost blinding at first. Kendra instinctively shielded her eyes before realizing it was Juliette. She did nothing, but simply gawk at the sight. It was amazing. She wished for a moment that she had her camera to take a picture of it before she realized that they were still in danger.
Kendra crouched down and out of the way as Juliette shot off blasts. She clearly didn't need much help in this mission. She could probably take them all out by herself Kendra thought as she watched. Kendra pressed a hand against a tree and watched from behind it. She had forgotten for a moment she was invisible she was so dumbfounded by what she was witnessing. That's when she saw one of the men aiming a rifle at Juliette. She didn't see him. At least, Kendra didn't think she did. She didn't hesitate. Kendra pounced into action. One moment Kendra was standing next to the tree. She focused on where she wanted to be. Her mind frantic with thoughts of Juliette getting shot. That would end this adventure in a hurry. Kendra exploded in a cloud of invisible white and red smoke, and reappeared just in front of the man with the rifle. "Lookout!" She cried.
Kendra barreled into the man in a sloppy tackle that took him to the ground. He was caught off guard and his finger squeezed the trigger sending scattered rounds flying into the trees. The sound was deafening in her ears as she fell on top of the simulated killer. That was basically her whole plan. She didn't have time to think of what came next and that's where things got ugly. The man grasped her invisible body by the shoulders and squeezed. His grip was strong. She wanted to cry out as boney fingers pushed into soft muscle. She saw his rifle lying a few feet behind him. He had dropped it in the fall.
Kendra struggled against the grip. He struggled to his feet as she broke free and he reclaimed her by grabbing her jacket. Kendra pulled out her police baton and flicked it to full extension before bashing the man in his knee cap. He let go and uttered a roar of anger and pain. Kendra took off running as one of the other men noticed the scuffle and blindly started firing at the tall grass moving on its on. Perceptive bunch of jerks weren't they? Kendra ran a few steps before she teleported again. She was hoping that Juliette could lay down some cover fire for her escape, but she wasn't throwing her eggs in that basket. Juliette couldn't see her anymore than these clowns could. She would have no idea where she was to protect her. Kendra reappeared a few feet away.
She was panting out of breath. Her heart was pounding in her ears and she doubled over trying not to vomit. She had to swallow several times to ease her tightening esophagus. Shit man! She thought These guys aren't playing. She still wasn't sure what happened if they caught them, but they were aiming rifles at them. Kendra wasn't sure 'catching' them was the main goal here. She turned around to see the confusion she left in her wake. All this was happening around the time that Juliette had blasted some poor sucker right between the eyes.
The whole jungle seemed to glow with the light beaming off her glowing body. Kendra didn't have those kind of powers. She had her wits and a metal baton and that was it. She had to be careful. She was a clumsy cuss and she was likely to get herself or Juliette hurt if she didn't watch what she was doing. For the moment anyways she had distracted some of the men from the more dangerous of the two mutants.... Juliette.
Kendra stepped back and pressed her back against a tree. The hard rigid bark of the tree kept her spine from buckling under the panic of the moment. The danger room always lived up to it's name. That was for sure. Kendra wasn't sure if she was ready for this level of danger. This was just the beginning though. She knew in the back of her mind it was only going to get more dangerous from this point on.
A sound behind her made her turn around to see one of the gunmen being tackled to the ground. Apparently, she had forgotten to tell Kendra about her invulnerability in that form because it clearly looked like he was wrestling something invisible. That was mostly her fault. Overhead, the rifle shot off and several birds left their perches.
”Daydream! Get off of him so I don’t hit you!” Juliette shouted. That was the one downside about working with an invisible teammate: they were also invisible to their partner. Juliette looked around, trying to see if Kendra was making impressions in the grass or something that would give her some sort of indication of where she was. There was nothing.
The things was that Kendra could more than handle herself. The man on the ground screamed as his kneecap was bashed in, creating a large mess. Even as a nurse who saw gore constantly, Juliette had to look away. She didn’t love watching it happen.
The men behind them had seen the commotion, it seemed. Guns fired in the direction of where Kendra and the man were on the ground, sacrificing their teammate. Juliette didn’t see any other blood coming from anything, so she hoped that Kendra had gotten away in time. She stepped in front of the bullets, but she worried that it would be too late.
Firefly loaded her hands with blasts and shot them at the group of men, taking a few down in the process. The others retreated without their backup, giving the two women a moment to rest. Juliette used it to steal some light from her surroundings. Sure, it was technically cheating to use the light formations as a power source, but she would have rather cheated than be left in her human form, vulnerable to whatever danger came next.
And came fast, at that. Where the men were standing just a second earlier, a tiger bounded in and barred its teeth. It was terrifyingly real.
While Juliette was alright with cheating by stealing from her surroundings, she wasn’t going to cheat by taking down the tiger by absorbing it. Or any other danger, for that matter.
Juliette moved slowly, having garnered the attention of the beast in her light form. She circled it very slowly, like a dance, keeping her eyes on it at all times.
”Kendra? Where are you right now? I’m going to need your help.”

Juliette called out to her and Kendra answered back. "I'm here!" She shouted. Kendra didn't exactly think that through. The massive animal's head whipped around to the sound of her voice. It's body lowered a bit like it was going to pounce. It's tail slashing around at the air as it's eyes searched for the source. Kendra wished she hadn't been so stupid.
Kendra's body was ridged. She didn't move a muscle. She didn't want to give away her position anymore than she already had. She was down on the ground with the great and ferocious beastie. She slowly moved her hand to her holster. Her fingers wrapped around the handle of her tranquilizer gun. Kendra's other hand slunk down into the pocket of her jacket. She found a small case that held a few extra tranquilizer darts.
Opening the case inside her pocket she pulled the gun from her holster slowly. Every movement was deliberate as she kept her eyes trained on the feline. She emerged with a new dart and quietly loaded it into the gun. Don't screw this up. Kendra calmly told herself taking a deep breathe. She wasn't sure if the tranquilizer would work on a simulated animal, but it was her best idea. Heck, it was her only idea. The men responded to a concussive blast to the face so why not this? Kendra thought.
Kendra's eyes moved back to where Juliette was for a moment. She was looking in Kendra's general direction. Kendra winced in fear as there was a small click sound of the gun being loaded. That was it. That was enough. The small click was enough to send the Tiger barreling in her direction. Can it smell me? Kendra thought briefly as she turned and began to run.
Kendra could hear the grass beating behind her. The sound of it's massive paws padding the dirt was almost thunderous in her ears. Kendra ran straight ahead. Her breath was quick and panicked as she realized she was running straight to where her sleeping body was at. I can't lead it there! She thought. Kendra exploded in a cloud of smoke and reappeared behind the tiger. "Hey Shouw Kan!" Nice jungle book reference dork! Kendra thought momentarily as she readjusted her stance.
The tiger realized it was chasing nothing again. and turned and started chasing more shadows. It was fast as the devil and Kendra was surprised how fast it moved when she was looking at it. It's lean muscles gliding in perfect synchronicity as it galloped towards her. Kendra aimed and pulled the trigger. Oh no! I missed! She thought. She was standing just by Juliette now. "Anytime's a great time to help!" She called out as she watched the menacing beast charge her.

Juliette had really thought that she was going to keep the beast on her the whole time, able to dance around it and keep it focused while Kendra did something to stop it. However, she called out, and the tiger took off in the other direction. It could probably smell her, Juliette realized, or it wouldn't have left a perfectly good target for a disembodied voice.
The thing about the session was that Juliette couldn't just take charge of everything and expect that Kendra would do what she would do. That was the thing about working in a pair; you couldn't always anticipate what the other person was about to do.
For a moment, it seemed like Kendra was going to handle the situation with her tranq gun. She was leading it elsewhere and, although Juliette couldn't see her, she assumed that she had some sort of plan of attack. Or, at least, some idea of what to do after she led it toward her sleeping body. While she didn't know all the details of the redhead's mutation, she could assume that it wouldn't be a good idea to hurt that.
>>"Anytime's a great time to help!"
"Right," Juliette nodded and stepped out of her daze. Without meaning to, she'd just been standing and watching while Kendra did all the work. That really wasn't fair, especially since she was about to be mauled by a tiger.
As quickly as she could, Juliette shot off flying and landed beside the tiger, hoping that Kendra wasn't anywhere near where she was about to land or shoot. It seemed like she was in the clear. The tiger whipped around and kept its eyes on her. "That's right, look at the pretty lights," Juliette encouraged.
She shot off a blast that got the tiger between the eyes, forcing it back. It stopped, dazed, and then kept going. For a human, that blast would have hurt, but she was pretty sure that she'd put the tiger on the hardest difficulty so it wouldn't do all that much. With a newly refreshed anger, it pawed the ground and prepared to charge at her.
"If you've got that tranq gun with you, this would be a good time to use it," Juliette mused, hoping that the sound would find Kendra's ears. If she couldn't do anything in time, there were other things that Juliette could do to avoid being eaten, but she preferred to keep the fight mostly focused on hand to hand combat, not just avoiding touch.
Kendra closed her eyes and thought about the first place she could. Quickly her astral body exploded into an invisible mist and she reappeared next to a tree. Her hand felt the rough bark and she looked down and saw her sleeping body in the tall grass just beside her. Kendra looked back up and saw that she had teleported a good distance. A safe distance. Juliette seemed to be handling things now. She was glowing. She seemed to be charging up for.... Whammo! A shot right between the eyes.
Kendra watched for moment in stunned fascination. She couldn't imagine having that range and control over her own abilities. Kendra felt as if she was bumbling through this mission and Juliette was so poised, so confident. Kendra would have never guessed that she was the newest member to the X-Team. She didn't act like the girl with the least experience. Juliette was a rock star and Kendra had to remind herself that now wasn't the time to get awestruck.
Kendra would have kept standing there watching if it hadn't been for her body in the grass. Her sleeping body rolled over. Her slender arm flopped over in the roll and the back of her hand hit a rock. A jab of pain shot through her astral right hand. Kendra looked down at her hand a moment and her eyes went wide. It was a simulation, but pain was very much a factor. She had been standing here gawking like and idiot while Juliette battled the beastie. One mistake could cost her.
Kendra looked around for a weapon. Anything that wasn't a police baton. She couldn't very well run up to it and whack it on the head and yell "BAD KITTY!" That would be suicidal. Kendra was looking for something sharp. She was looking for something deadly. Her daydreamy mind hadn't considered that she had one dart left in her pocket for her tranq gun. She hadn't considered that until Juliette suggested it rather urgently. "Right!" Kendra said in a fluster.
Kendra started to dig frantically in her pocket until she emerged with the case that held her tranq darts. She grabbed the last one and loaded it into the gun. She had to make this one count. She couldn't blunder again and miss or it could mean something very bad for Juliette. Kendra raised the tranq gun and steadied her aim. The tiger was fast! It moved like a blur through the tall grass and Kendra could barely see it from here.
She looked around and spotted a vantage point. High up in one of the trees Kendra could get a better shot. She closed her eyes and imaged a branch on the tree. She teleported herself up on a branch that wasn't to high, but high enough that she was relatively safe. She sitting in the tree behind Juliette now. The tiger had stopped running and now it was slowly stalking her. Each footfall was a menacing prelude to what came next. Unimaginable pain. Kendra closed one eye. Unintentionally her tongue hung out of the corner of her mouth as she lined up a shot. "Ok Tigger....Naptime." She said as she pulled the trigger.
Kendra fired the dart at the tiger. Just at that moment there was a creaking sound. Kendra looked at the tree and saw that her weight was causing the branch to snap. She didn't have time to teleport away as the branch submitted under the bell's weight and she went plummeting to the hard ground below. She wasn't to high up to get seriously hurt, but just enough to know she was in a fall. Kendra hit a few branches on the way down and landed hard on the earth.
The wind was driven out of her lungs on impact. "Oafff!" She bellowed as her breath sent dirt skittering everywhere. Bits of brown earth clung to her wet lips. Her hair hung wild in her face like angry fire. For a moment Kendra couldn't do anything but roll on the ground and hold her ribs. Jesh that hurt! She thought. It was the growl from the tiger that got her mind back in the game. Kendra looked up only hoping that this time her aim was better than the last.
Thankfully, Kendra had been listening to Juliette’s plea. Just when she thought she might have to make other arrangements to deal with the tiger, she came through. A tranquillizer dart sailed through the air and embedded itself deep within the tiger’s pelt. Its eyelids suddenly grew heavy as its gaze on Juliette drifted. It swayed and dipped in the gentle breeze.
It shook its head, though, and staggered back to its previous position. For a moment, Juliette thought that the program would overcome the tranquillizer dart (it was damn cool that it could even register something like that), since she had put it onto one of the hardest difficulties.
Something behind her made her turn around. Kendra fell from her perch in the trees and onto the ground, rolling over and making a noise. Juliette could tell that she was alive, but whether she was alright was a different question.
”Oh my God, are you alright?” she asked, rushing over to the redhead to check. The team leaders would have her head if she got a potential trainee killed on an early training session. She knelt down next to her, ignoring the growl that erupted behind her. If the tiger was still kicking, then she would deal with it when it got close enough.
Once she was sure that Kendra was okay, Juliette stood back up and looked behind her. Blinking, she realized that the tranquillizer dart really had worked. The tiger had collapsed, and the program was beginning to disintegrate around them.
”Nice work,” Juliette commended, offering her partner a hand up. ”You’ll make a fine X-Man someday.”
Juliette stretched her back out and examined the freshly emptied room. ”Now, what do you say we celebrate with some coffee?” Nothing washed a fight down better than a little caffeine. That wasn’t counter-intuitive at all, right?
Making it back to her feet Kendra saw the simulations crashing. She thought she had broken it somehow. In all honesty they had beaten it. Kendra smiled lightly despite the pain in her ribs. She was standing on her own two feet though so that was good. Kendra had survived the danger room twice now. That had to say something right? She didn't know if it was a point of pride, or stupidity. She did want to brag about it though.
When Juliette asked her if she wanted to get coffee it was hard to turn her down. Kendra lived on coffee. It was helpful to keep her mind sharp and focused when she was running on little rest. For now however, she decided she better go see Docprofessor and get patched up. She was there so often, he might actually start charging her rent.
"No, thank I'ma have to take a hardpass on that. Ma'ribs feel like someone used'em for a trampoline." Every word out of Kendra's mouth was followed by a heavy gasping breathe, but she was smiling. She was putting on a brave face despite how she felt. She'd live. "Thank I'ma just poof down there. The danger room lives up to it's name huh?"
Teleporting over to her body she produced some smelling salts. She snapped them under her nose and woke up almost instantly. Her astral body disappeared and now her ribs were really killing her. Pushing herself to her feet she limped to the door. She gave a half hearted wave to Juliette. It just hurt to lift her arm that was all. Mission successful. Now it was time to rest and recover.
