The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It had been a week since the trial and Sam still hadn’t seen Alex since the ride home. He told the kid to relax and enjoy the quite time in the mansion for a while. Sam kept an eye on the kid but kept his distance since he revealed that he had adopted him. The only kids Sam had was his two ‘not-real kids’ meaning the only interaction he had with his kids was nonexistent like them. It was hard for Sam but he still thought it was how you act towards them. However Alex wasn’t them and Alex wasn’t a kid. He was close to an adult.
Sam also made a promise to the jury and to Alex and to himself that Alex would be an upstanding citizen otherwise the ice-mancer would have to deal with him. Sam didn’t want to deal with the kid so he decided a hands on approach might be good. Even if he want Alex to have a childhood it might be a little late for that so he thought some hands on training might do the newly appointed father and son pair some good.
So once again Sam snuck into Alex’s room at four o’clock in the morning dressed in black and his face covered in a mask. Sam reached up and placed a hand on the kids mouth and then whispered out. ”Keep it quite kid. Don’t want to wake anyone.” then he took his hand off of his mouth then whispered. ”Come’on we got some talking to do in the danger room.”

Alex had taken the whole relax thing to heart. Though it was hard to do when people outside the fence would sometimes snap pictures of him. The world still had eyes on him and he knew his profile was getting message on that one forum he signed up on a while back. People wanted to talk to him about the trial and everything and he just needed a while to shut everything off. Retreat without the trial hanging over him like a cloud.
So he slept most of the time, used his powers sparingly and out of the eye of anybody who could judge him, and spent the rest of the time hanging out with his friends, just trying to be a normal teenager. The whole, 'you have a dad now' didn't really hit him until about half way through the week. There was a tinge of panic but unending happiness. He had family now, but what that meant and what he was supposed to do with that so late in his teenage years he wasn't exactly sure. He always imaged getting a family early on but as he grew older that became a distant dream. No one adopted a teen after all.
Except for Sam Johnson apparently...
When father dear decided to rudely wake him up at four am, dressed like a burglar and putting a hand over his mouth, well, you could forgive him for wishing for a different parent. Sam was lucky that Alex was actually starting to get comfortable sleeping around here and hadn't put a knife under his pillow. He shoved the man's hand off his mouth, glaring up at him and whispering, "What the hell? Why are you dressed like that and why now?"

”Cause I said so. Listen to your father.” Sam said with a smirk as he left Alex’s room and then poked his head back in the room, ”Either you are coming now or I’m knocking you out and you will find yourself in there. One leads to less talking. Be smart.” Sam said as he left the room and snuck down the hallway down to the Danger room.
Once in the danger room Sam removed his mask and threw it down to the ground. He only used it for dramatic affect. Sam smirked when he thought about the first time he scared Alex awake compared to now. The kid must have not needed his knife anymore. That was a good sign. Sam waited for Alex to make his way down to the Danger room and started doing squats.

Alex resisted the urge to groan and roll his eyes, instead settling for glaring sleepily at the man. He was half tempted to just go back to sleep when he poked his head back in and warned him. But Sam was right, he had to be smart. It just sucked that this was taking place at four am, a time slot he usually wasn't conscious for willingly.
He rolled out of bed, bothering only to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that was left crumpled on the floor. It was yesterday's clothing but at this point he didn't care. He had never actually been down to the danger room himself, only seen it through the eyes of his insects. So navigation was a bit tricky. By the time he got down there Sam was already doing squats and he was wondering if he should have grabbed some material just in case he needed to use his powers. But it was too late for that now.
"Alright, so what did you want that was so important that you had to wake me up at four in the morning?"he asked, watching his new father do squats, which honestly just looked like the man was indecisive about taking a dump.

”Training starts at four a.m.” Sam said as he continued to do his squats. He looked back to his adopted kid and then smirked, ”Start with 100 squats then 100 push ups.” Sam said as he started his last set of ten for the squats and started on the pushups. Sam grunted in between each push up but there was no sign of slowing.
”You and I are going to be working out a lot together. I know you can handle yourself in a survival setting so I’m going to get your body stronger. We will then work on your powers after that.”
”I made a promise that you’d be an active member of society didn’t I?” Sam asked the air around Alex starting to drop slightly the way it did in the court house. ”You and I are going to be talking a bit about our father son relationship if you want to call it that.” Sam said with a smirk as he sped his pushups then flipped over and started to do some sit-ups.

This time he really did groan, four am exercise was the last thing he wanted to do and he was fairly fit. Not muscle bound no, but health enough. Probably more so now than ever given his meals were no longer a matter of life or death searches. Now he had filled out a little bit more, though the use of his powers kept him from gaining all that much mass anyway.
"Do I really have to?"he asked, "I could probably be an active member of society without the workouts." There were so, so many other ways he could fulfill that promise Sam made without working himself to the bone.
Still, it wasn't like Sam was going to let him leave. So he started with the squats, just to get the ridiculous looking one out of the way. "So, what's there to discuss? We're family now, but I don't really know what to do with that. Not that I'm ungrateful, it's something I've always wanted, but I don't really know what it entails."he said watching Sam do push-ups while he continued doing squats.

”No, you do. State says you’re my son now. Can’t have my kid getting beat up.” Sam said as continued on to his sit ups. ”You’ll start training with me in self-defense to. From now on you only use your powers in the danger room until we both agree you have more than enough control.” he shifted his eye to the kid who finally agreed to the situation and started to squat.
”I don’t really know what that means either. I have a brother who I hardly know and was kidnapped from home when I was a kid. Both parents are dead. I don’t have any other family. I had kids but they weren’t real so, now I got you and you got me. We are going to rely on each other got it?” Sam said not explaining anything he had just said.
”I just want to be clear with what I expect out of this relationship. I want you to have a somewhat normal life. You’ll go to school skip classes and get in trouble. You’ll play sports and make friends. When you aren’t doing that you and me will be training. I’m gonna keep you busy so you can only get into so much trouble. What do you want out of this?” Sam asked figuring it was only fair.

Alex was okay up until Sam said he wasn't allowed to use his powers outside of the danger room until he had more control. He stood up, legs burning from the exercise but unwilling to sit and rest. "No, no way am I locking down my power. I use it too much to be doing that casually. Hell, I'm pretty sure it's part of how my brain functions."he stated, defensive. He was going to keep using his powers, with or with out Sam's permission.
"...We are going to rely on each other got it?”
That was good enough for him to nod in agreement. His arms were crossed over his chest, still defensive about the powers thing but softening at the family statement. Sam probably already had a good idea of what his familial situation had been, that is, none whatsoever. Sure, he had gotten real close a few times but nothing like he imagined families to really be like. Speaking of...
"I just want to be clear with what I expect out of this relationship. I want you to have a somewhat normal life. You’ll go to school, skip classes, and get in trouble. You’ll play sports and make friends. When you aren’t doing that you and me will be training. I’m gonna keep you busy so you can only get into so much trouble. What do you want out of this?”
He nodded, understanding the sentiment, though he wasn't much for sports. Jiri and Leo could attest to that, it just didn't catch his interest beyond being able to hang out with them. "I'm not sure any more. When I was younger, I'd see other kids go on family trips during the summer, camping and disney world and big backyard parties with relatives, and I'd want that. I'd want what other kids had and could do, that I didn't. When I ran away, after a while I just wanted to go back to school and be a normal kid again, the good and the bad. And while I still want that...I'm not sure if that's the main thing any more."he said, giving a shrug.
He knew a really deep part of him wanted to say he just wanted to be taken care of. That he just wanted someone else to carry the load, to ease the anxiety and fear that had become so ingrained in him that simply sleeping with out a knife was a huge step for him. He just wanted someone he could depend on.

Sam nodded his head, ”I understand all too well.” he was about to make a joke about Christmas and not having any gifts but then decided not to. Thinking it was in bad humor. Even if that was most of his jokes, Sam refrained for now knowing he’d have ample opportunity later for poorly timed jokes and bad puns.
”Keep in mind you’ll have a lot of eyes on you for a while. I meant you keep your powers in check in public. You want to use them in the danger room, on the grounds but out of sight fine. I already bailed your ass out of that courtroom by finding you that team of lawyers, you slip up and are seen using your powers for anything other than saving a baby falling out of the window I can’t guarantee what will happen.” Sam finished his sit ups and then went back to squats again, ”My name on the line two and Julia’s and everyone else who vouched for you okay.” Sam tapped his head again, ”Be smart.”
”Anything you need, you come to me got it? Food, money, clothes…. Can you drive?” Sam asked mid squat feeling the strain he was now putting on his body.

Alex sighed and relaxed a bit when Sam clarified his statement, giving him some more leeway in his power use. He could deal with being allowed to use it just out of sight. So long as Sam didn't feel the need to restrict it to just the danger room. That's all. His powers, he was finding, was like a release valve. He didn't want to know what would happen if he didn't open it from time to time. "Be smart."
"I will be, sorry. I'm just not used to being so...controlled by other people. The collars were bad enough."he said softly, subconsciously rubbing his neck, remembering the sensation of drowning the collar brought. "But I'll keep out of sight, hopefully people will forget about me and move onto something else soon enough." He really hoped so, he wasn't that interesting in the first place and his trial went relatively smooth. There was nothing there to pick apart any more.
"Anything you need, you come to me got it? Food, money, clothes… Can you drive?"
"Got it, I don't need much but I'll let you know. And no sir, I can't. Never had the opportunity to learn."he shrugged, maybe with this he'd get one. Not that he needed it, he was fine with walking and public transportation. Then again...probably wouldn't be safe for him to go alone for a while.

”It might be something you will have to live with for years..” Sam said mid squat. He was slowing down a bit but was still able to power through them, ”Reporters and anyone in the justice system won’t forget. In fact they are going to wait for you to trip up. They do the same thing with me. ‘Everyone wants to see the hero take a fall as much as they love a good underdog story’. Sam repeated the words from Alex’s defense attorney. He knew it was true. It was a warning to both him and Alex.
”People are going to want to see what becomes of you so we are going to show them they made the right decision.” Sam said with a smirk, ”Sound good?” even if it didn’t Alex didn’t have a choice, Sam was going to push the kid to greatness. If he could turn Mirror around Alex was going to be a walk in the park.
”Starting today, that’s going to change. You have class today? If you do we are going for a ride after. The less time you take public transportation the better.” he said as mused with the idea of giving Alex his car. It wasn’t like he was sober enough to drive it lately and he had his motorcycle when he was. Even in the winter his bike was a better choice.

Years, he was going to have to wait years for this to blow over! Good god, did people have nothing better to do. His head hurt at the implications. Would he never be able to leave the mansion grounds again? Would he be harassed or provoked into confrontation? What if his friends wanted to go out, could he go with them without bringing trouble on them? Why couldn't people just leave him alone, he had done nothing to deserve this, he was innocent...right?
There were too many skeletons in his closet to unironically use the word innocent for himself. Things he was unwilling to bring up right now.
He barely caught what Sam was saying, about people watching what he would become, about proving to them that the right choice was made. He nodded absently, managing to echo Sam's words back, "Sounds good."
At the mention of learning to drive a car, he was a little taken aback. As far as he knew, if he was going to learn, he'd be the only one being trained. By an x-men no less. He had to wonder if stunt driving would be included in these lessons. He had a feeling that even in his own car, people wouldn't leave him alone. "Actually, yeah, I have class today and honestly I should get some more sleep. I didn't go to be early enough to be exercising this early in the morning before class."he pointed out, even though he had yet to resume exercising.

”No.” Sam said shaking his head, ”You can sleep when you are done. Think of this as your chores. You train with me at four in the morning every morning unless I say otherwise.” the air around Alex got a little colder as Sam put his influence on it. ”This is the best way I know how to keep kids out of trouble. By the end of the month you are going to be getting up on your own this early. You’ll go to sleep earlier probably or you will just get used to it.” Sam said finishing his second set of squats. ”Sam training I went through and the same training Mirror, Koga and Fausto did.” Sam said with a straight face so Alex could see he was serious.
”It will take some time to get used to but you will end up thanking me at some point. I don’t have a lot of rules but I do want you to train with me as much as possible. It will make me feel better about you being on your own as well.”
”Keep moving.” Sam said, ”Three sets then we do a little light sparring.” smirking he added, ”I’ll start swinging if I finish before you.”

This time Alex did groan but instead of complain he went back to doing the squats. If he did them quickly he might be able to squeeze in another twenty minuets before having to get ready for class. Training this early was going to drain him pretty quickly. He didn't have much in the way of energy reserves in any case. His body swallowed it up rather quickly. He hadn't gained more than a few pounds since he started living at the mansion, if that was any indication of how precious every bit of energy he had was.
But he wasn't going to say as much to Sam. He had some nagging feeling that the man wasn't going to believe him unless he collapsed or something. So, it was a game of wait and see, or rather do as told and see. He had a question though, "I know Mirror, but who are Koga and Fausto? Are they X-Men too?" If so he had never seen them around.
At the mention of sparing he shrugged his shoulders. "I don't like the idea of hitting my new dad but if you insist. Just be warned, like last time, I won't hesitate to go below the belt." That was, after all, the best self-defense, particularly against men. One strong kick, punch, or twist to the groin was enough to send most men to their knees. "You want me to be able to protect myself after all, right?"he gave him a small grin.

”Koga was at least, he is in school now but Fausto never got a chance to be on a team.” Sam thought about it for a bit then sighed, ”Fausto was always a lot more trouble than he realized.” he trailed off again thinking about the kid with the acidic saliva. The kid did one thing right though, he brought Sveta to the states and for that Sam would always be grateful. ”Last I heard he was back home in South America.” Sam said with a shrug. ”You’ll meet Koga if he every finishes school go. Mirror might be one of my closest friends and best students but Koga… kid was an overachiever.” Sam recalled fondly as he continued on his workout.
”Don’t care if you like it or not son. It builds character and I’m gonna guarantee that you are gonna want to hit me at some point so might as well get used to it.” Sam said with a smirk. ”Keep in mind, you go below the belt so will I so I’d recommend saving that for a rainy day. Otherwise you’ll be dreading this four am work out everyday.” Sam said with a slight laugh.
