The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The baseball bat turned to dust, and Maya arched an eyebrow. Summoning it is, then.
>>"Um, yah... My name's Claire. Claire Lockerby. I'm sorry. I just, well, got kinda curious. It's probably my worst trait but sometimes I just have to find out what something is and, well, yah..."
Mirror could completely relate to that. Once upon a time she herself ended up in the Mansion after sneaking in to take a closer look. Granted, she had been looking for a particular girl, rather than the Danger Room... but that came in time as well.
>>"Pleased to meet you. We, ah, only found out a few weeks ago that, well, I'm a mutant. I think my parents were a little shocked, but they wanted me to get a handle on it, so they sent me here. My dad's a doc working a project here for another year or so. Then we were supposed to go back home to Colorado."
"Well" Maya smirked at the girl, she was nto completely off the hook yet, but she would have plenty of time to make her make up for the breaking-and-entering later "Welcome to the Mansion, Claire. This" she made a gesture "is the Danger Room. It's for training with your powers in a safe environment. Students can't be in here unsupervised unless they have a special permission. Which is why I am here." she grinned "So... your power has something to do with... paper, and summoning things, I'm guessing?"
Claire's eyes went wide again. She was, after all, totally new to all this, and unfamiliar with the levels of mayhem the X-men trained against... "Safe?! Getting fried by crazy gnomes is safe?!" Claire gave her patented, teenage, full-shoulder-included eye-roll. Wow. This place was really going to be, well, interesting, if that was their idea of safe!
"Next time I see a Keep Out, I'll keep out. Trust me" she added. Luckily, when she said that, she had no idea there was a hanger with a jet on premises. Yet.
Miss Distractable did catch the Power question however, and moved on to that. "Umm, yes, sorta, I guess? I, umm, take a paper model, and change it into something real. Well, sorta real. Great... there's the darn dog I was looking for earlier. It's really hard to find stuff underneath a boat" she muttered, as she stooped to get the dog.
Setting it on the ground, she ran her fingers over it's head, concentrating on making a dog. The best example she had in mind was the neighbor's Newfoundland, so it came out looking a lot like that, although a little on the small side. She was still getting a handle on getting the size she wanted. She wavered a little, feeling slightly light-headed as a wave of fatigue caught up with her. She wasn't used to making a couple of big constructs close together, much less after fighting off Genghis Gnome and his Hordette. "Wow. That was, um, interesting..." she said as she steadied herself with a hand on the floor.
In place of the origami, was a good-sized dog. It was obviously not real, being rather angular compared to a real dog, but was definitely animated, quite large, friendly - and slobbery. Classic Newfie. "And... there's the dog I was trying for in the first place!" she said triumphantly.
>>"Safe?! Getting fried by crazy gnomes is safe?! Next time I see a Keep Out, I'll keep out. Trust me"
"Relax, they are not set to cause damage" Maya chuckled "Besides, you were the one who picked them..."
She could have opted for zombies, or cloud dragons, or whatever else they had programmed into the DR computer, after all.

Maya watched in awe as Claire produced a paper dog and then turned it into a real one. Or a sort of real one. Definitely with slobber, even if a little angular. The mirrorwalker grinned.
"My dog's gonna love you for this" she noted, patting the dog on the head. She noticed that using her powers (or maybe the pinball game) took a toll on the redhead, and offered a hand to help her up. "That's a cool power you have there. If you want to practice, I can help you get into the DR without sneaking. How's that sound?"
