The things I learned [Solo/Absence]

McCalaghan stared out towards the great sea. A shade only slightly darker than that of the skies, it was difficult occasionally to discern the difference between the two as you stared towards the wide horizon. If he didn't know better, Donovan would think that it spread on infinitely. At times like this, it wasn't so surprising that for centuries the planet was believed to be as flat as a griddle cake.

The waves crashed against the great rocks that compromised the sheer cliff upon which the man was perched, remnants of the aquatic assault quickly cascading back to whence it came. This had a great calming, and somewhat lulling, affect on the mutant as he contemplated the last few months.

Having been offered a spot to study abroad in Dublin, a place he had wanted to visit ever since he was a boy, it was an opportunity that he simply HAD to seize. And Donovan didn't regret a single moment of it in the slightest. The student had learned so much about his home culture, and partook in quite a bit of the local.... *eherm* refreshments that had been offered by the locals. Studies themselves were pretty standard, and very similar, to what they did in the states for University students. Which meant that the young man continued to struggle great amounts with written language, but excelled at Math, Science, and of course, Music.

But the adventures he had experienced had left him with an unexpected amount of homesickness. To say that Don was looking forward to returning to the states was more than an understatement.

As this thought crossed his mind a small bleating sound was made, and a small head rubbed itself against the palm of his hand.

Upon turning his gaze downward, he discovered the identity of the perpetrator, as a small lamb that seemed to be lost. Smiling softly at the baby, he knelled down to the small animal and pet her on the head, "well where's your flock little one?" Donovan asked softly as the lamb continued to gaze back at him with her large eyes. Letting out a sigh the man muttered to himself, "great, talking to animals, Ireland's made you nuts McCalaghan."

The lamb then gave the man a confused look as he was babbling before taking off, as if leading him somewhere. As a smile spread across his face, McCalaghan gave chase, laughing the entire way. He certainly was ready to go home. But one thing was for certain, someday Donovan would return to the Emerald Isle and start a family. And he would have the romantic fairy-tail ending he had wished for since boy-hood.
